In a recent effort to mitigate harm from human pathogens, many biosynthetic pathways have been extensively evaluated for their ability to inhibit pathogen growth and to determine drug targets. One of the important products/targets of such pathways is isopentenyl diphosphate. Isopentenyl diphosphate is the universal precursor of isoprenoids, which are essential for the normal functioning of microorganisms. In general, two biosynthetic pathways lead to the formation of isopentenyl diphosphate: (1) the mevalonate pathway in animals; and (2) the non-mevalonate or methylerythritol phosphate (MEP) in many bacteria, and some protozoa and plants. PURPOSE: The objective of this research is to compare the efficacy of conventional and hypofractionated radiotherapy treatment plans for breast cancer patients, with a specific focus on the unique features of the Halcyon system.

METHODS AND MATERIALS: The study collected and analyzed dose volume histogram (DVH) data for two groups of treatment plans implemented using the Halcyon system. Background: Intervention based on family support and risk perception can enhance type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients’ self-care activities. In addition, eHealth education is considered to improve family members’ support for patients with T2DM. However, there is little evidence from rigorously designed studies on the effectiveness of an intervention combining these approaches.

Objective: This randomized controlled trial (RCT) aimed to assess the effectiveness of an eHealth family-based health education intervention for patients with T2DM to improve their glucose control, risk perception, and self-care behaviors.

The purpose of the study is to investigate patient-physician interactions during a clinical encounter to ascertain the impact of tablet computing on physician satisfaction during a clinical encounter. This study was conducted at a primary care clinic, and the physicians who participated could use a tablet during their clinical encounters. The authors compared satisfaction between physicians who used the tablet during a clinical encounter and those who did not using data from 122 clinical encounters involving 82 patients. The results indicate that physicians who used the tablet during clinical encounters are more satisfied than those who did not. Additionally, there …

Background:

Evidence - Prevalence of nonconvulsive status epilepticus or other epileptiform activity in patients who are comatose after a cardiac arrest is between 12-22%. Consistent with the literature, at this facility approximately 12% were found to have non convulsive seizures. Prolonged epileptiform discharges may cause secondary brain injury and increased mortality. In 2020, the American Heart Association recommended EEG monitoring should be promptly performed and interpreted for the diagnosis of seizures in all comatose patients following cardiac arrest.

Situation:

Goal to bring awareness to telemetry nurses, the specialty certifications they are eligible for, and criteria for eligibility. Currently, six telemetry nurses hold a nationally recognized certification.

Action Plan:

• March 19, 2023 was Certified Nurses Day and was the kickoff for the start of encouragement for telemetry nurses to be certified.
• Each telemetry nurse was delivered a card and lifesaver candy inviting them to consider a nationally recognized certification.
• A certification informational packet promoting CV-BC and PCCN certification was placed at each desk and referenced during huddle for one week.
• Certification preparation books are available upon request.

PURPOSE: Palliative care in Sarawak is mainly provided by health care professionals with limited formal training in palliative care. Therefore, in 2020, collaborative work between Sarawak General Hospital, University Malaysia Sarawak, and ASCO began. This study reports on the outcome of this collaboration.

METHODS: The collaboration was initiated with the first ASCO Palliative Care e-course, Train the Trainer program, International Development and Education Award-Palliative Care and translation of ASCO Palliative Care Interdisciplinary Curriculum resources.

RESULTS: This collaboration has resulted in the change of practice of palliative care among the oncology team of Sarawak General Hospital.

Around one in every nine Emergency Department (ED) patients have Difficult Intravenous Access (DIVA) and 25% of ED patients will require more than one attempt (Fields et al., 2014a). Failed insertion attempts contribute to decreased patient satisfaction, care delays, and financial losses. The freestanding ED affiliated with a multi-state, not-for-profit healthcare system in an urban community had difficulty with first-attempt Peripheral IV (PIV) insertion success in identified patients. ▪ Demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system are increasing in prevalence world-wide1,2 and manifest as motor, behavioral, and/or cognitive defects3 . The etiology and pathophysiology of demyelinating diseases remain unclear.

▪ We have previously observed cortical demyelination in our mouse model of non-anaphylactic cow’s milk allergy4 . The demyelination was associated with depression-like behaviors and region-specific increases in brain histamine and H3 receptor (H3R) levels4,5 .

❖ The brain’s central histaminergic system is tightly controlled and regulates many behaviors. Additionally, signaling through H3R plays a crucial role in oligodendrocyte differentiation, and thus, demyelination and remyelination6 .

Background: There is increasing discussion online concerning the management of atopic dermatitis (AD). Patients often document their subjective experience of a given treatment. It remains to be determined if the experiences vary based on treatment or align with efficacy.

Objective: To determine which treatments are associated with positive or negative experiences.

Methods: The largest online AD platform was searched for posts that only discussed a singular treatment. Introduction: Medulloblastoma (MB) is an embryonal central nervous system (CNS) tumor located in the posterior cranial fossa. Medulloblastoma is one of the most common malignant pediatric brain tumors, accounts for 25% of all pediatric intracranial tumors, but rare in adults; and constitute 0.4%-1% of adult primary brain tumors. The incidence of medulloblastomas in adults is approximately 0.5 per million per year and decreases with age with male predominance. Medulloblastomas classically appear as well-defined masses in the cerebellum that enhance both computed tomography (CT) of the head and brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with gadolinium contrast.
