Introduction. Physiologic changes in respiratory tract in elderly increase incidence of post-operative pneumonia. Post-operative pneumonia in non-thoracic surgery was found higher in abdominal surgery. This study aimed to develop a prediction model of 30-day post-operative pneumonia in elderly patients undergoing abdominal surgery.

Methods. A retrospective cohort study was conducted using elderly patient’s medical records who underwent abdominal surgery in Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital. Multivariate analysis using logistic regression was used to determine Odds Ratio (OR). Model’s calibration performance was determined by Hosmer-Lameshow test and its discrimination performance was determined by calculating area under the curve (AUC).

Background: Plasmodium falciparum strains that are resistant to standard-dose chloroquine can be treated by higher chloroquine concentrations maintained for a longer time in vivo.
Objectives: To determine the relative importance of chloroquine concentrations versus exposure time for elimination of chloroquine-susceptible and -resistant P. falciparum in vitro.
Methods: Chloroquine-susceptible (3D7) and -resistant (FCR3) strains were exposed in vitro to 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32 times their respective 90% inhibitory chloroquine concentrations for 3, 5, 7 or 14 days and then followed until recrudescence, or not, by 42 days after the end of exposure.

The pathogenesis of Cutaneous T cell lymphoma (CTCL) remains unclear. Using conditional knockout mice, we found that ablation of the genomic organizer Special AT-rich sequence-binding protein-1 (Satb1) caused malignant transformation of mature, skin-homing, Notch-activated CD4+ and CD8+ T cells into progressively fatal lymphoma. Mechanistically, Satb1 restrained Stat5 phosphorylation and the expression of skin-homing chemokine receptors in mature T cells. H3K27 and H3K9 trimethylation occluded the SATB1 promoter in Sézary cells, while inhibition of SUV39H1/2 methyltransferases (unlike EZH2 inhibition), restored protective SATB1 expression and selectively abrogated the growth of primary Sézary cells more effectively than romidepsin. Background: External cephalic version (ECV) can be a helpful procedure in attempts to decrease the overall cesarean section rate. ECV involves the application of external pressure to the pregnant woman’s abdomen in attempts to turn the fetus to a vertex presentation and allow for subsequent vaginal delivery. Tocolytics are routinely used to increase ECV success rates, and neuraxial analgesia has been presented as another adjunct to increase overall success. PDPV is often associated with other congenital anomalies such as polysplenia, malrotation and pancreatic anomalies. We report an elderly male with Stage IIB esophageal adenocarcinoma.
