Purpose: To determine the outcomes of Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) and transscleral diode cyclophotocoagulation (CPC) in neovascular glaucoma (NVG).

Methods: This was a single-center retrospective comparative case series involving chart review of consecutive patients who underwent AGV or CPC for treatment of NVG and had ≥6 months of follow-up. Surgical failure at 6 months, defined as an IOP of >21 or <6 mm Hg with hypotony maculopathy after 1 month, progression to no light perception (NLP) vision, glaucoma reoperation, or removal of AGV were the main outcome measures.

Results: In total, 121 eyes of 121 patients were included (70 AGV and 51 CPC). Baseline demographics, visual acuity (VA), and intraocular pressure (IOP) were comparable between groups. At 6 months, failure was significantly higher in the CPC group …

Background: Obesity may have a protective effect (greater survival) in older adults, a finding known as the "obesity paradox." This study examined the association between self-reported body mass index (BMI) and active life expectancy (ALE) among older U.S. adults.

Methods: Using the Medicare Health Outcomes Survey Cohort 15 (2012 baseline, 2014 follow-up), we estimated life expectancy and ALE by participants' baseline BMI and age using multi-state models. A participant was classified as in an active state if this person reported having no difficulty for any of these six activities of daily living (ADLs).

Purpose: We proposed an experimental approach to build a precise machine-specific model for standard, volumetric, and layer repainting delivery based on a cyclotron accelerator system. Then, we assessed the interplay effect using a 4D mobile lung target phantom compared to a generic delivery sequence model from West German Proton Therapy Essen (WPE). Introduction: Select patients with oropharyngeal SCC are candidates for unilateral radiation therapy. We sought to investigate if ipsilateral targeting leads to increased contralateral recurrences. Methods: We queried the PCG database for patients treated with unilateral proton RT for head and neck SCC from 2015 – 2020 at 12 institutions. DICOMs were evaluated to ensure dose delivered matched a unilateral proton treatment plan. Demographic, clinical and pathological, toxicity and dosimetry information were compiled. Purpose: To address the challenges of generating a deliverable and efficient spot-scanning proton arc (SPArc) plan for a proton therapy system. We developed a novel SPArc optimization algorithm (SPArcDMSP) by directly incorporating machinespecific parameters such as mechanical constraints and delivery sequence. Method and Material: A SPArc delivery sequence model (DSMarc) was built based on the machine-specific parameters of the prototype arc delivery system IBA ProteusONEt. Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is primarily a drug-induced skin eruption, which typically presents within two days of starting an offending medication; it is often self-limiting with spontaneous resolution within two weeks upon medication cessation. We report the case of a patient who presented with generalized desquamation, characteristic pustules, and several morbilliform rashes on the body surface in association with recent amoxicillin-clavulanic acid exposure. This was associated with significant pruritus, which was the associated chief complaint. Our meta-analysis aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ROX, especially on the cardiovascular risks, for anemia in NDD-CKD patients. Methods Electronic databases were searched systematically from inception to July 2021 to look for randomized control trials (RCTs) that evaluated ROX NDD-CKD patients. Solitary fibrous tumour (SFT) is a ubiquitous benign mesenchymal tumour of fibroblastic origin, which occurs most often in middle-aged adults. It usually presents as lung mass originating from pleura, but extrapleural occurrence is also common. Tumour is characterised by hypo- and hyper-cellular areas of spindle-shaped cells, arranged in haphazard manner with dispersed staghorn-shaped vessels. Surgical excision is the curative treatment. SFTs of the primary testicular or paratesticular region are extremely rare, but they exhibit histologic findings similar to SFTs originating at other body sites. Its continued emergence, post-PCV7 in the USA, was associated with expansion of a pre-existing 35B clone (clonal complex [CC] 558) along with post-PCV13 emergence of a non-35B clone previously associated with PCV serotypes (CC156). Background: Clinical presentation, imaging, and ophthalmologic findings are important factors in distinguishing between noninflicted and abusive head trauma (AHT) in infants. However, little is known about agreement between pediatric subspecialists regarding diagnosis and timing of AHT in infants. Hypothesis/Objects: The primary outcome was differences in rates of AHT diagnosis among different types of pediatric subspecialists using case examples of infant head injury. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), the most common childhood cancer and the second most common acute leukemia in adults, arises from clonal expansion of undifferentiated lymphoid precursor cells in bone marrow. Despite the extensive knowledge on its cytogenetic and molecular biology, ALL treatment remains highly challenging especially after relapse. Conventional chemotherapy has shown significant improvement in overall survival rates of pediatric patients up to 90%, however, treatment failure due to ALL relapse occurs in 15-20% of the cases. Introduction Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common cancer in children, and risk-adapted chemotherapies have dramatically improved the outcomes of this disease. Compared to B-cell ALL, T-cell ALL (T-ALL) is more aggressive and has worse outcomes from chemotherapy. There is a great unmet need to develop biomarkers and novel targeted therapies for this type of cancer. Working together with internal and external collaborators, we performed a large-scale pharmacotyping assay in over 300 primary ALL samples. PURPOSE: Studies have shown that bracing is an effective treatment for patients with idiopathic scoliosis. According to the current classification, almost all braces fall in the thoracolumbosacral orthosis (TLSO) category. Few studies have examined 24-hour activity and sleep behaviors and their contribution to type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Latino adolescents and young adults with obesity.

Aim.

This study included quantitative data on T2D risk and 24-hour activity and sleep behaviors and qualitative data on individual, social, and environmental behavioral determinants.

Method.

A 7 day, 24-hour, wrist-worn accelerometer protocol assessed moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (PA), sedentary behaviors (SB), sleep, and sleep regularity, in adolescents (N = 38; 12–16 years) and young adults (N = 22; 18–22 years). Objective: To understand the perspectives of food bank clients affected by type 2 diabetes (T2DM).

Design: Semi-structured in-depth interviews conducted with food bank clients.

Setting: Arizona regional food bank.

Participants: Twenty English- and Spanish-speaking food bank clients with T2DM or living with a person with T2DM, aged 45-83 years, majority female, Hispanic, and food insecure.

Phenomenon of interest: Food bank use and preferences, and how these related to T2DM management.

Objective: Trans fatty acids (TFAs) have harmful biologic effects that could increase the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D), but evidence remains uncertain. We aimed to investigate the prospective associations of TFA biomarkers and T2D by conducting an individual participant-level pooled analysis.

Background and aims: Cardiometabolic disorders (CMD) arise from a constellation of features such as increased adiposity, hyperlipidemia, hypertension and compromised glucose control. Many genetic loci have shown associations with individual CMD-related traits, but no investigations have focused on simultaneously identifying loci showing associations across all domains. We therefore sought to identify loci associated with risk across seven continuous CMD-related traits.
