Wegener’s granulomatosis is a vasculitis that affects small to medium blood vessels, generally occurring at the age of 64- 75 years with an incidence of 8-10 / 1,000,000 people. Meningoencephalitis manifestations are rarely found in Wegener’s granulomatosis with the incidence only in the range of 0-7%. Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) is often used in diagnosing Wegener’s granulomatosis, but negative ANCA can be found in 10-20% of cases. Objective: To implement a quality improvement based system to measure and improve data quality in an observational clinical registry to support a Learning Healthcare System.

Data Source: ImproveCareNow Network registry, which as of September 2019 contained data from 314,250 visits of 43,305 pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) patients at 109 participating care centers.

Frontal sinus stenting is widely used with the goal of maintaining nasofrontal duct patency after sinus surgery. The general recommendation is to leave stents in place for 6 months; however, prolonged stenting up to 6 years has been reported with no complication. We present the first reported case of frontal sinus posterior table and skull base erosion following prolonged frontal sinus stenting. Mitochondrial calcium overload and oxidative stress during ischemia reperfusion (I/R) injury remains a major obstacle during percutaneous coronary intervention after acute myocardial infarction. It often leads to an increased susceptibility for mitochondria permeability transition pore (mPTP) opening leading to cell death. Mitochondrial calcium overload and ROS have been identified as key triggers to open the mPTP for over 30 years, yet the exact mechanism has remained elusive. Objectives: Globally, perinatal mortality remains high, especially in sub-Saharan countries, mainly because of inadequate obstetric and newborn care. Helping Babies Breathe (HBB) resuscitation training as part of a continuous quality improvement (CQI) programme may improve outcomes. The aim of this study was to describe observed changes in perinatal survival during a 6-year period, while adjusting for relevant perinatal risk factors.

Setting: Delivery rooms and operating theatre in a rural referral hospital in northern-central Tanzania providing comprehensive obstetric and basic newborn care 24 hours a day. The hospital serves approximately 2 million people comprising low social-economic status.

Progressive resistance exercise training (PRT) is the most effective known intervention for combating aging skeletal muscle atrophy. However, the hypertrophic response to PRT is variable, and this may be due to muscle inflammation susceptibility. Metformin reduces inflammation, so we hypothesized that metformin would augment the muscle response to PRT in healthy women and men aged 65 and older. In a randomized, double-blind trial, participants received 1,700 mg/day metformin (N = 46) or placebo (N = 48) throughout the study, and all subjects performed 14 weeks of supervised PRT. BACKGROUND: Ebola virus (EBOV) is a highly lethal member of the Filoviridae family associated with human hemorrhagic disease. Despite being a sporadic disease, it caused a large outbreak in 2014-2016 in West Africa and another outbreak recently in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Several vaccine candidates are currently in preclinical and clinical studies but none are stable without cold chain storage.

A 74-year-old man presented to the ER with an eight-month history of shortness of breath, cough, anorexia, and weight loss. He had emigrated from sub-Saharan African to the USA, where he was diagnosed and treated for coronary artery disease, heart failure, and stroke; was hospitalized several times; and underwent hernia surgery. Despite the complex care that he received in the USA for many years, the diagnosis of AIDS was continually missed for years, and the patient was eventually diagnosed at the age of 74.

Systemic metabolic alterations associated with increased consumption of saturated fat and obesity are linked with increased risk of prostate cancer progression and mortality, but the molecular underpinnings of this association are poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate in a murine prostate cancer model, that high-fat diet (HFD) enhances the MYC transcriptional program through metabolic alterations that favour histone H4K20 hypomethylation at the promoter regions of MYC regulated genes, leading to increased cellular proliferation and tumour burden. There are three methods of ultrasound cervical assessment: transvaginal (TVU), transabdominal (TAU), and transperineal (TPU, also called translabial). Cervical length measured by TVU is a relatively new screening test, and has been associated with better prediction of PTB than previously available tests.
