The V3 loop of the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) gp120 exterior envelope glycoprotein (Env) becomes exposed after CD4 binding and contacts the coreceptor to mediate viral entry. Prior to CD4 engagement, a hydrophobic patch located at the tip of the V3 loop stabilizes the non-covalent association of gp120 with the Env trimer of HIV-1 subtype B strains. Here, we show that this conserved hydrophobic patch (amino acid residues 307, 309 and 317) contributes to gp120-trimer association in HIV-1 subtype C, HIV-2 and SIV. Most known giant viruses, i.e., viruses producing giant virions, parasitize amoebae and other unicellular eukaryotes. Although they vary in the level of dependence on host nuclear functions, their virions self-assemble in the host cell's cytoplasm. Here we report the discovery of a new prototype of giant virus infecting epidermal cells of the marine arrow worm Adhesisagitta hispida. Its 1.25 μm-long virions self-assemble and accumulate in the host cell's nucleus. Conventional transmission electron microscopy reveals that the virions have a unique bipartite structure. OBJECTIVE: To determine the mortality rate of children, adolescents and adults with sickle cell anemia in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

METHODS: The number of deaths, the mortality rate and the causes of deaths in patients with sickle cell anemia who were treated and followed up at our institution for 15 years were determined and compared to data available for the Brazilian population.

Only some individuals who have the medically defined condition ‘infertility’ adopt a self-definition as having a fertility problem, which has implications for social and behavioral responses, yet there is no clear consensus on why some people and not others adopt a medical label. We use interview data from 28 women and men who sought medical infertility treatment to understand variations in self-identification. The aim of this study is to observe cell proliferation, cell viability, apoptosis, and autophagy on acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cell lines, NB4 and U937, with the drug repurposing of mefloquine (MQ). Methods such as the 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-Yl)-2,5-Diphenyltetrazolium Bromide (MTT) assay and trypan blue staining have shown a decrease in live cells with high concentrations of mefloquine. In-stent restenosis after stent deployment remains an obstruction in the long-term benefits of stenting. This study sought to investigate the influence of the relation between stent length and lesion length on the mechanics of the arterial wall with different geometries, including straight and tapered vessels. การวิจัยนี้เป็นการวิจัยกึ่งทดลองมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาผลของโปรแกรมการอบอุ่นร่างกายฟีฟ่าอีเลเว่นพลัส (FIFA11+) ที่มีผลต่ออัตราส่วนความแข็งแรงของกล้ามเนื้องอเข่าต่อกล้ามเนื้อเหยียดเข่า และศึกษาอุบัติการณ์การบาดเจ็บที่เกิดขึ้นหลังจากได้รับการฝึกโปรแกรมในนักฟุตซอลหญิงไทย โดยผู้เข้าร่วมงานวิจัยเป็นนักฟุตซอลหญิงไทย อายุ 18-30 ปี แบ่งผู้เข้าร่วมวิจัยออกเป็น 2 กลุ่มแบบเฉพาะเจาะจง กลุ่มละ 14 คน โดยกลุ่มทดลองเป็นนักฟุตซอลหญิงทีมชาติไทยได้รับการฝึกโปรแกรม FIFA 11+ 3 วันต่อสัปดาห์ กลุ่มควบคุมทำการอบอุ่นร่างกายแบบอยู่กับที่ (Static stretching) เป็นระยะเวลา 8 สัปดาห์ มีการประเมินส่วนประกอบภายในร่างกาย การทดสอบความแข็งแรงของกล้ามเนื้อต้นขา (Isokinetic test) ความคล่องแคล่วว่องไว (Agility T-test) และการแกว่งของร่างกายขณะหยุดนิ่ง (The Footwork Pro balance test) พบว่ากลุ่มที่ได้รับการฝึก FIFA11+ มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (p<0.05) ดังนี้ มีการเพิ่มขึ้นของค่ามวลกล้ามเนื้อและการลดลงของค่าไขมันทั้งหมด อัตราส่วนความแข็งแรงของกล้ามเนื้องอเข่าต่อกล้ามเนื้อเหยียดเข่าขาข้างถนัดเพิ่มขึ้น การแกว่งของร่างกายที่ลดลงจากการทดสอบความสามารถในการทรงตัวของขาแต่ละข้างขณะหยุดนิ่งทั้งเปิดตาและปิดตา มีความแตกต่างระหว่างกลุ่มของค่าความคล่องแคล่วว่องไว อุบัติการณ์การบาดเจ็บที่เกิดขึ้นทั้งหมด 168.15 ครั้งต่อ 1,000 ชั่วโมงของการมีส่วนร่วมในการฝึกซ้อมและแข่งขัน ตำแหน่งของการบาดเจ็บที่พบมากที่สุด คือ ข้อเท้า 18.48% ข้อเข่า 18.48 % และกล้ามเนื้อต้นขา 17.7% เป็นการบาดเจ็บเอ็นข้อต่อที่เชื่อมระหว่างกระดูกอักเสบ การบาดเจ็บขาหนีบ และการฉีกขาดของกล้ามเนื้อต้นขา สรุปผลการฝึกโปรแกรม FIFA11+ สามารถพัฒนาสมรรถภาพทางกายของนักกีฬา ซึ่งช่วยลดการบาดเจ็บบริเวณรยางค์ส่วนล่างในนักกีฬาฟุตซอลหญิงไทย โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งลดอุบัติการณ์การบาดเจ็บของข้อเท้าและข้อเข่าระดับรุนแรงได้

วัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาถึงความแตกต่างของเทคนิคการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพกายแบบมีกิจกรรมการเคลื่อนไหวระหว่างเทคนิคหะฐะโยคะกับเทคนิคฟีฟ่า 11+ และเทคนิคพื้นฐานภายหลังการออกกำลังกายส่วนขาด้วยระดับความหนักสูงสุดในนักกีฬาฟุตบอลชาย โดยทำการศึกษาในอาสาสมัครนักฟุตบอลเพศชาย อายุ 18-29 ปี ที่มีระดับการแข่งขันอยู่ในระดับมหาวิทยาลัยหรือสโมสรฟุตบอลต่างๆ จำนวน 59 คน แบ่งเป็น 3 กลุ่ม คือ กลุ่มเทคนิคพื้นฐาน (n=20) กลุ่มหะฐะโยคะ (n=20) และกลุ่มฟีฟ่า 11+ (n=19) กำหนดให้อาสาสมัครทุกคนได้รับโปรแกรมการออกกำลังกายกระตุ้นการล้าของขาด้วยการปั่นจักรยาน Wingate ที่ความหนัก 7.5% ของน้ำหนักตัว จำนวน 3 รอบ หลังจากนั้นจะแบ่งกลุ่มเข้าร่วมโปรแกรมฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพเป็นระยะเวลา 20 นาที ซึ่งจะได้รับการทดสอบสมรรถภาพทุกๆ 5 นาที ได้แก่ อัตราการเต้นของชีพจร ระดับความล้าของกล้ามเนื้อ ค่าแลคเตทในเลือด ค่าการกระโดดสูงสุดและค่าความยืดหยุ่นของกล้ามเนื้อต้นขาด้านหลัง พบว่าผลการศึกษา เมื่อเปรียบเทียบกับก่อนออกกำลังกาย กลุ่มหะฐะโยคะ ค่าการกระโดดสูงสุดมีค่าเพิ่มมากขึ้น (p<0.01) และค่าความยืดหยุ่นของกล้ามเนื้อต้นขาด้านหลังมีค่าเพิ่มมากขึ้น (p<0.01) อีกทั้งไม่พบความแตกต่างของอัตราการเต้นของชีพจร ระดับความล้าของกล้ามเนื้อและค่าแลคเตทในเลือด จากการวิจัยสรุปได้ว่า การฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพกายแบบมีกิจจกรรมการเคลื่อนไหวด้วยเทคนิคหะฐะโยคะภายหลังการออกกำลังกายส่วนขาด้วยระดับความหนักสูงสุด สามารถเพิ่มสมรรถภาพทางกายในด้านความแข็งแรงและความยืดหยุ่นของกล้ามเนื้อในนักกีฬา ในแง่ของการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพทางกาย จึงเป็นอีกหนึ่งทางเลือกที่สามารถใช้ระหว่างพักครึ่งการแข่งขันที่มีเวลาอย่างจำกัดเพื่อให้สมรรถภาพทางกายของนักกีฬาพร้อมต่อการใช้งานอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพต่อไป

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาผลของการออกกำลังกายกล้ามเนื้อกลุ่มสะโพกต่อระยะเวลาที่ใช้ในการทำให้เกิดความมั่นคงขณะทำการกระโดดลงน้ำหนักขาเดียว และประเมินการทำงานของข้อเข่าก่อนและหลังจากการออกกำลังกายกล้ามเนื้อกลุ่มสะโพก โดยทำการศึกษาในอาสาสมัครที่มีประวัติการผ่าตัดซ่อมสร้างเอ็นไขว้หน้าและสามารถกลับไปเล่นกีฬาได้ แบ่งอาสาสมัครออกเป็น 2 กลุ่ม คือกลุ่มออกกำลังกาย (n=18) และกลุ่มควบคุม (n=18) กำหนดระยะเวลาของการออกกำลังกายเท่ากับ 6 สัปดาห์ ประกอบด้วยการออกกำลังกายทั้งหมด 5 ท่าทาง การทดสอบระยะเวลาที่ใช้ในการเกิดความมั่นคงของข้อเข่า คำนวณโดยใช้ค่าแรงกระทำจากพื้น (GRFs) ในขณะที่การทำงานของข้อเข่าจะใช้แบบประเมิน IKDC และประเมินความแข็งแรงของกล้ามเนื้อสะโพกและกล้ามเนื้อขาด้วยเครื่องทดสอบไอโซไคเนติก กำหนดความเร็วเชิงมุมเท่ากับ 60 องศาต่อวินาที ผลการศึกษาพบว่า อาสาสมัครกลุ่มที่ได้รับการออกกำลังกาย ใช้ระยะเวลาในการเกิดความมั่นคงหลังจากกระโดดลงน้ำหนักขาเดียวน้อยกว่า (กลุ่มควบคุม 1.67±0.5: กลุ่มออกกำลังกาย 1.22±0.49 วินาที, P=0.01) และมีค่าคะแนนการประเมินการทำงานของข้อเข่าที่เพิ่มขึ้น (กลุ่มควบคุม 77±14.14: กลุ่มออกกำลังกาย 88±8.69 คะแนน, P<0.01) อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ นอกจากนี้ความแข็งแรงของกล้ามเนื้อสะโพกและกล้ามเนื้อขา มีค่าเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติภายหลังจากการออกกำลังกาย จากการวิจัยจึงสรุปได้ว่าการออกกำลังกายกล้ามเนื้อกลุ่มสะโพกเป็นอีกหนึ่งทางเลือกสำหรับการวางแผนและออกแบบการฟื้นฟูการทำงานของข้อเข่า ในกลุ่มอาสาสมัครที่มีประวัติการผ่าตัดเปลี่ยนซ่อมเอ็นไขว้หน้าข้อเข่า เพื่อให้ผู้ป่วยสามารถกลับไปออกกำลังกายหรือเล่นกีฬาได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ

In response to the growing epidemic of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections, antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASP) have been rapidly implemented in the United States (US). This study examines the prevalence of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) seven core elements of a successful ASP within a large subset of US Children’s Hospitals. In 2016, a survey was conducted of 52 pediatric hospitals assessing the presence of the seven core elements: leadership commitment, accountability, drug expertise, action, tracking, reporting, and education. Resuscitative hysterotomy is a daunting and rarely performed procedure in the emergency department (ED). Given the paucity of clinical exposure to this intervention, resuscitative hysterotomy is an ideal opportunity for simulation-mediated deliberate practice. The authors propose a novel training program using a homegrown, realistic, simulation device as a means to practice resuscitative hysterotomy. Thymic epithelial cells (TEC) are essential for a proper adaptive immune response by regulating thymocyte development and establishing central tolerance. In the thymus, TECs differentially express Wnt proteins, which activate canonical and non-canonical Wnt signaling pathways.
