A 68-year-old male with a history of alcohol abuse presented with a one-week history of fatigue and weakness, and a one-year history of fecal incontinence. On admission, vital signs were stable. Physical exam revealed cachexia, skin pallor, and mild abdominal distention. Fecal occult blood testing was positive. Laboratory analysis was significant for hemoglobin of 6.8g/dL. Of note, computed tomography (CT) scans of his chest, abdomen, and pelvis done months prior for evaluation of anemia and incontinence had shown rectal wall thickening, lung nodules concerning for metastasis, and gallstones. Introduction: Both vaping and bleomycin-based chemotherapy regimens are known risk factors for acute lung injury. Few, if any, cases are documented in the literature of these insults co-occurring. Case description: A 20-year-old male was diagnosed with Stage III testicular cancer in Autumn of 2020. He began BEP (bleomycin-etoposide-platinum), of which he completed three cycles before developing pulmonary sequelae. Social history was notable for marijuana use and vaping, including during his active chemotherapy, to help with cancer-related nausea, anxiety, and anorexia. Background: Body mass index (BMI) greater than or equal to the 85th percentile for age and sex is considered overweight in the pediatric population. Pediatric obesity is defined as a BMI at or above the 95th percentile. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), obesity prevalence has tripled over the past fifty years; one in five school-aged children has a diagnosis of obesity. The purpose of this study is to survey caregivers’ perceptions and concerns about their child’s weight, as well as assess patient and caregiver interest in a comprehensive healthy lifestyle program.

INTRODUCTION | Pelvic incidence, lumbar lordosis, and pelvisacral angle are common radiographic measures used to evaluate sagittal alignment of the spine and pelvis to assist in clinical decision making. However, the natural history of the sacral table angle (STA) is not well characterized, and there remains uncertainty regarding STA progression over time. Previous studies have established that the STA is stable over time in adult patients, however this question has not been answered for younger patients who have not reached skeletal maturity. Introduction/Objective Anti-NMDA-receptor encephalitis is a subacute, autoimmune disorder thought to be caused by autoantibodies directed against the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor. Clinical symptoms of anti-NMDAR encephalitis may mimic schizophrenia and psychotic spectrum disorders or substance-induced psychosis. Although initially described in association with ovarian teratomas in women, anti-NMDAR encephalitis has been reported in individuals without paraneoplastic association, as well as in males. Herein, we report a case of a 29-year-old woman with suicidal ideation and other neuropsychiatric manifestations who was found to have a right ovarian cystic mass by imaging study. Context: As many pathology institutions have eliminated transcription service by office assistants, pathologists assume the task of diagnostic data entry (DDE) into pathology reports in the laboratory information system. This is not a trivial undertaking, yet tangible data are lacking on how much DDE adds to the workload of pathologists. Background: While there has been significant focus on individual and programmatic factors impacting general surgical residents wellbeing and burnout, the effect of the greater institutional macrocosm has not been well studied. Our work seeks to identify organizational factors that may be implicated in resident wellness. Summary of Work: Using a modified Delphi technique, a survey structured around six domains of the Maslach Burnout Theory (workload, control, reward, community, fairness, values) was distributed to wellness stakeholders at two institutions. Background: The development of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols have allowed for improved patient outcomes by utilizing a multimodal approach. The use of ERAS for surgical procedures reduces perioperative complications that could lead to increased morbidity, mortality, and length of stay. Additionally, by utilizing a multimodal approach, ERAS protocols help limit opioid use during the perioperative period. Background: The recent opioid epidemic in the United States has damaged the country’s public health system and led to devastating patient outcomes. Healthcare providers are responsible to do their part in reducing these negative consequences. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to develop and implement an evidence-based protocol for an intraoperative lidocaine infusion during gastric surgery. INTRODUCTION: Dysphagia is a common complication after anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) but is not a routinely asked question in legacy patient-reported outcome measures. This study looks to see whether there are associations between dysphagia and legacy outcome measures. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 168 patients who underwent ACDF surgery from 2017 to 2019 at a single institution. Demographics, anthropometric data, Neck disability index (NDI), visual analog scale (VAS) pain scores, PROMIS-Health and -Mental scores, Charlson Comorbidities Index (CCI), and Eating Assessment Tool (EAT-10) were obtained for each patient preop and 1, 3, 6, and 12 months postop. BACKGROUND: Diabetes mellitus affects 13% of American adults. To address the complex care requirements necessary to avoid diabetes-related morbidity, the American Diabetes Association recommends utilization of multidisciplinary teams. Research shows pharmacists have a positive impact on multiple clinical diabetic outcomes. We aimed to determine impact of an education-focused pharmacist managed diabetes clinic model (PMDC) on hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and other diabetes core measures at 6 and 12 months follow-up.
