Introduction: The 2011 National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) demonstrated a reduction in morbidity and mortality with LDCT compared to CXR. In 2013 the USPSTF began recommending CT scan for lung cancer screening in appropriate patients but, the 2015 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) demonstrated that less than 5% of eligible patients received screening. The NLST also demonstrated a high rate of false positives, incidental findings, and the need for further invasive testing. Ogilve's syndrome, or acute colonic pseudo-obstruction (ACPO), is characterized by acute dilation of the colon, in the absence of a mechanical lesion, which obstructs the flow of intestinal contents. Pseudo-obstruction typically occurs in the critically ill, though the underlying pathophysiology is poorly understood and the etiology is often multifactorial. We present a case of a 51-year-old morbidly obese woman presenting with symptoms of severe hypothyroidism found to have massive acute colonic pseudo-obstruction.

Patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia have a 5-10% risk of developing autoimmune complications, the most common of which is autoimmune hemolytic anemia. Our patient is a 38-year old female with PMH of seronegative rheumatoid arthritis, mixed connective tissue disorder, and several recent hospitalizations over the past 4 months at outside hospitals for suspected colitis with associated vomiting and diarrhea. FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have activity in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients with FLT3 internal tandem duplication (ITD) mutations, but efficacy is limited by resistance-conferring kinase domain mutations. This phase 1/2 study evaluated the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of the oral FLT3 inhibitor PLX3397 (pexidartinib), which has activity against the FLT3 TKI-resistant F691L gatekeeper mutation in relapsed/refractory FLT3-ITD-mutant AML. One of the most common adverse reactions experienced by those who have been exposed to capecitabine is palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia (PPE). 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is a chemotherapeutic drug widely used to treat colorectal cancer. 5-FU is known to gradually lose its efficacy in treating colorectal cancer following the acquisition of resistance. We investigated the mechanism of 5-FU resistance using comprehensive lipidomic approaches. We performed lipidomic analysis on 5-FU-resistant (DLD-1/5-FU) and -sensitive (DLD-1) colorectal cancer cells using MALDI-MS and LC-MRM-MS. In particular, sphingomyelin (SM) species were significantly up-regulated in 5-FU-resistant cells in MALDI-TOF analysis. BACKGROUND: Receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) play key roles in tumorigenesis. The multi-RTK inhibitor dovitinib has demonstrated promising antitumor activity in multiple cancers.

PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this phase 2, open-label, single-arm study, patients with advanced malignancies with RTK-pathway genetic aberrations whose disease progressed on/following standard treatment received dovitinib (500 mg/day; 5-days-on/2-days-off). The primary endpoint was clinical benefit rate (CBR; complete response, partial response [PR], or stable disease [SD] for ≥ 16 weeks).

Introduction: Childhood-onset nephrotic syndrome has a variable clinical course. Improved predictive markers of long-term outcomes in children with nephrotic syndrome are needed. This study tests the association between baseline urinary epidermal growth factor (uEGF) excretion and longitudinal kidney function in children with nephrotic syndrome.

When reported, SCH has most commonly been described as occurring spontaneously in the thoracic spine, and being idiopathic in nature (anterior thoracic spinal cord herniation, ATSCH) [1-3]. Background: The role of race on functional outcomes after robotic partial nephrectomy (RPN) is still a matter of debate. We aimed to evaluate the clinical and pathologic characteristics of African American (AA) and Caucasian patients who underwent RPN and analyzed the association between race and functional outcomes.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer that majorly affects female. The present study is focused on exploring the potential anticancer activity of 2-((1, 2, 3, 4-Tetrahydroquinolin-1-yl) (4 methoxyphenyl) methyl) phenol (THMPP), against human breast cancer. The mechanism of action, activation of specific signaling pathways, structural activity relationship and drug-likeness properties of THMPP remains elusive.
