While advances in patient care and immunosuppressive pharmacotherapies have increased the lifespan of heart allograft recipients, there are still significant comorbidities post-transplantation and 5-year survival rates are still significant, at approximately 70%. The last decade has seen massive strides in genomics and other omics fields, including transcriptomics, with many of these advances now starting to impact heart transplant clinical care. This review summarizes a number of the key advances in genomics which are relevant for heart transplant outcomes, and we highlight the translational potential that such knowledge may bring to patient care within the next decade.

Severe alcoholic hepatitis (sAH) is associated with a poor prognosis. There is no proven effective treatment for sAH, which is why early transplantation has been increasingly discussed. Hepatoblastoma-derived C3A cells express anti-inflammatory proteins and growth factors and were tested in an extracorporeal cellular therapy (ELAD) study to establish their effect on survival for subjects with sAH. Adults with sAH, bilirubin ≥8 mg/dL, Maddrey's discriminant function ≥ 32, and Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score ≤ 35 were randomized to receive standard of care (SOC) only or 3-5 days of continuous ELAD treatment plus SOC. Compression of the radial nerve is most commonly described at the supinator muscle (i.e., arcade of Frohse). However, radial nerve compression can occur in the arm. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to review both etiologies of radial nerve entrapment and the sites at which this can occur in the arm. The clinical presentation of radial nerve entrapment in the arm and how it differs from that of entrapment at other sites is reviewed and the conditions potentially predisposing to nerve entrapment are described. We examined whether the interaction of baseline stimulant use, assessed by urine drug tests, and type of serious mental illness (SMI) diagnosis predicted stimulant use in a trial of contingency management (CM). The interaction between baseline stimulant use and SMI diagnoses was significant in the overall sample (p=0.002) when controlling for the main effects of treatment condition, baseline stimulant use, and SMI diagnosis. Similar results were also found within the CM sample. Individuals with bipolar disorder were more or less likely, depending on their baseline stimulant-drug test results, to use stimulants during treatment compared to those with other SMI diagnoses.

Over 62 million women in the United States are of childbearing age and 60% of them use contraception. Subcutaneous contraceptives include implantable contraceptives and subcutaneous injections. Implantable contraception involves subdermal time-release of synthetic progestin, which allows for several years of continuous, highly effective contraception. Its main effects are inhibition of ovulation and thickening of the cervical mucus. Many complications have been associated with subcutaneous contraception, including menstrual disturbances, headache, weight gain, acne, dizziness, mood disturbances, nausea, lower abdominal pain, hair loss, loss of libido, pain at the implant site, neuropathy, and follicular cysts. Background: After surgery and radiation, treatment options for ependymoma are few making recurrence a challenging issue. Specifically, the efficacy of chemotherapy at recurrence is limited. We performed molecular profiling on a cohort of ependymoma cases in order to uncover therapeutic targets and to elucidate the molecular mechanisms contributing to treatment resistance.

Results: This ependymoma cohort showed minimal alterations in gene amplifications and mutations but had high expression rates of DNA synthesis and repair enzymes such as RRM1 (47%), ERCC1 (48%), TOPO1 (62%) and class III β-tublin (TUBB3) (57%), which are also all associated with chemoresistance. BACKGROUND: Adults experiencing homelessness and serious mental illnesses (SMI) are at an increased risk of poor mental health and treatment outcomes compared with stably housed adults with SMI. The additional issue of alcohol misuse further complicates the difficulties of those living with homelessness and SMI. Objectives: To investigate if glucose levels influence seizure patterns.

Materials and methods: In a patient with RNS/NeuroPace implanted bi-temporally and type 1 diabetes mellitus, seizure event times and onset locations were matched to continuous tissue glucose.

Results: Left focal seizure (LFS, n = 22) glucoses averaged 169 mg/dL, while right focal seizure (RFS, n = 23) glucoses averaged 131 mg/dL (p = 0.03). LFS occurred at mean time 17:02 while RFS occurred at 04:23. LFS spread to the contralateral side (n = 19) more than RFS (n = 2).

Case Description: We report the case of a MPE with anaplastic features in a 24-year-old female who presented with a dominant lumbar mass along with intracranial and sacral metastases. BACKGROUND: The primary objective of this study was to retrospectively compare short-term outcomes of intracorporeal versus extracorporeal anastomosis for minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic-assisted right colectomies for benign and malignant disease. At an event recognizing the 10th anniversary of the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA), the Kennedy-Satcher Center for Mental Health Equity in the Satcher Health Leadership Institute at Morehouse School of Medicine, The Kennedy Forum, The Carter Center, and Well Being Trust (WBT) jointly released “Evaluating State Mental Health and Addiction Parity Statutes,” with 32 states receiving a failing grade for statues designed to ensure equal access to mental health and addiction treatment.
