Nuclear receptor coactivator 1 (NCOA1) plays crucial roles in the regulation of gene expression mediated by a wide spectrum of steroid receptors such as androgen receptor (AR), estrogen receptor α (ER α), and estrogen receptor β (ER β). Therefore, dysregulations of NCOA1 have been found in a variety of cancer types. However, the clinical relevance and the functional roles of NCOA1 in human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) are less known. Background We describe the surgical treatment of silent sinus syndrome, a disease characterized by progressive enophthalmos and hypoglobus due to orbital floor collapse with opacification of the maxillary sinus, in the presence of chronic maxillary sinusitis.

Methods Case study of a 55-year-old male with persistent diplopia secondary to left-sided esotropia and enophthalmos from chronic maxillary sinusitis.

Results Two stage procedure to treat the sinonasal and orbital symptoms, which include endoscopic sinus surgery to treat the underlying the ostial obstruction along with decompression of maxillary sinus. Then, reconstruction of the orbital floor with a customized implant.

Introduction Laryngotracheal stenosis is a difficult problem with varied etiology and various treatment options. The holmium laser represents another tool for the treatment of benign tracheal stenosis.

Objectives To determine the utility of holmium laser treatment for benign tracheal stenosis with regards to safety and efficacy.

Methods This was a retrospective case study examining patients with benign tracheal stenosis from 1998–2016 who underwent holmium laser treatment. Determining the safety of this procedure was the primary goal, and complications were monitored as a surrogate of safety.

Dislodgment of trial femoral heads and migration into the pelvis during total hip arthroplasty is a rarely reported complication with limited published cases. There are three primary mechanisms of femoral head separation: dislodgement during reduction attempt, disassociation from anterior dislocation while assessing anterior stability, and during dislocation after implant trialing. If the trial femoral migrates beyond the pelvic brim, it is safer to finish the total hip arthroplasty and address the retained object after repositioning or in a planned second procedure with a general surgeon. We recommend operative retrieval since long-term complications from retention or clinical results are lacking.

The temporalis flap is a common flap used in head and neck reconstruction. In this article, the authors present a new modification of the use of the temporalis muscle flap for orbital skull base reconstruction with the use of a sphenoid keyhole. This technique confers multiple advantages in reducing the arc of rotation and providing a tension-free reconstruction of the orbital skull base.

The condition is sporadic and has been attributed to neuronal damage and loss, both of which have been linked to the accumulation of protein deposits in the brain.
