Severe aplastic anemia (SAA) is a rare and life-threatening bone marrow failure disorder. Immunosuppressive therapy (IST) with antithymocyte globulin and cyclosporine has long been a frontline treatment option in SAA; however, its limited durability and risk of long-term complications such as secondary malignancies remain a drawback in this treatment modality. Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is a potentially curative option with significantly improved outcomes over the long term, particularly with HLA-matched related donors. The microdiscectomy procedure has been regarded as the preferred method for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Intraoperatively, the procedure may be further complicated due to underlying anatomical variations in the lumbar spine or nerve root variations. Nerve root anomalies (NRAs), in particular, are relatively underdiscussed within the literature. Despite the rarity of these variations to the exiting nerve root, the increased surgical risk that an NRA may add warrants the need for increased awareness and associated complication mitigation. Vocal cord paralysis (VCP) presents with unique challenges when managing airways, particularly during endotracheal intubation. This literature review explores the effects of unilateral and bilateral VCP on intubation technique, first-pass success, extubation safety, and perioperative airway planning. While video laryngoscopy (VL) is becoming increasingly favored for its superior airway visualization, it does not always confirm successful placement in patients with VCP. Complications such as airway edema, aspiration risk, and cuff misplacements are increased in this patient population, and they may be more vulnerable to post-extubation complications, especially without the use of steroid prophylaxis or intensive post-operative planning. BACKGROUND: In recent years, there has been an emergence of new antigens discovered in membranous nephropathy (MN). Whether these antigens have impacted the approach to, and management of, MN patients undertaken by nephrologists is still unclear.

METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional international survey pertaining to 13 antigens recently discovered in MN. The survey was distributed by the National Kidney Foundation, direct emails, and social media.

Impaired mobility, postural instability, bradykinesia, muscle rigidity, and decreased bone mineral density (BMD) contribute to the increased risk of falls, which often result in hip and upper extremity fractures. Hip fractures in patients with PD are associated with an increased hospital length of stay and a decline in functional independence. Pathologic pelvic nonunions are uncommon, although they remain a difficult problem and require meticulous surgical planning and execution for desired outcomes. In this paper, we discuss a patient who sustained a pathologic pelvic insufficiency fracture secondary to radiation therapy for metastatic breast cancer, who subsequently developed a symptomatic nonunion that required surgical intervention secondary to debilitating pain and inability to ambulate. Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is the second most common nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) and is predominantly found in the head and neck region. With an annual increase in NMSC diagnoses, cSCC presents significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. This review discusses the many risk factors for the development of cSCC, outlines the criteria for defining high-risk cSCC, and examines treatment approaches of these tumors based on risk stratification. While most cSCCs are treatable with surgical excision, approximately 5% metastasize, with head and neck cSCC showing poor prognosis once metastasis occurs. Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant (allo-HCT) is underutilized in adults aged ≥70 years. Morbidity, often driven by graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), is considered a major barrier to its use. The BMT CTN 1703 trial (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT03959241) randomly assigned adults with hematologic malignancies undergoing allo-HCT after reduced intensity conditioning to receive either posttransplant cyclophosphamide, mycophenolate mofetil, and tacrolimus (PTCy) or tacrolimus and methotrexate (Tac/MTX) for GVHD prophylaxis. BACKGROUND: Mechanical thrombectomy has become a first-line adjunctive therapy for anticoagulation in patients with acute intermediate-risk pulmonary embolism (PE). Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a rare, life-threatening complication of pregnancy in which a hypercoagulable state develops secondary to the contact of tissue factor with circulating blood and causes widespread abnormal clotting. This pathological process disrupts normal blood flow, which can cause multi-organ dysfunction and is associated with very high maternal morbidity and mortality.
