This injury is also known as a "nightstick fracture," which is a common eponym in orthopedic surgery used to describe a fracture of the ulnar shaft. The eponym gained its title for the injury commonly seen when in a defensive position while being attacked with a wooden club. Reproductive and genitourinary complications following pelvic ring injuries have been described; however, testicular dislocation is rare and can cause significant morbidity if not managed appropriately. We describe a case of testicular dislocation after pelvic ring injury and outline the subsequent management and outcome, and seek to identify areas of improvement to ensure expedient and appropriate care in the setting of these injuries. Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is a clinical syndrome with multiple variants. GBS is defined as an acute demyelinating polyneuropathy commonly preceded by infection (bacterial or viral), trauma, or inflammatory processes, which triggers an autoimmune response that affects the peripheral nervous system. This case report describes a patient with high-grade osteosarcoma that completed neoadjuvant chemotherapy and underwent surgical resection with no immediate complications. Fourteen days after the surgery, the patient developed an acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculopathy consistent with GBS. As the five-year survival without chemotherapy is only around 20%, this challenging clinical scenario raised questions regarding adjuvant chemotherapy's safe completion in this …

Here, we report a case of Familial Cylindromatosis (FC), a subtype of BSS, in a patient with the largest cylindroma of 7.4 × 5.6 × 3.8 cm on the scalp. We present the case of a patient who underwent a laparoscopic splenectomy for splenomegaly associated with anemia and thrombocytopenia thought to be secondary to lymphoma and was found to have metastatic melanoma without a primary source. This report describes the diagnosis of an Achilles tendon tear in a female patient with an inconclusive physical exam, which was limited by the patient's body habitus. Expedient use of point-of-care ultrasound supported the diagnosis of an Achilles tear with findings of a tendinous defect, fibrous stranding, and surrounding anechoic fluid, suggestive of localized hemorrhage. The patient was splinted in plantar flexion and had prompt orthopedic referral with MRI that verified Achilles tear.

Direct traumatic injury to the levator palpebrae superioris aponeurosis typically results in upper eyelid ptosis. The mechanisms can involve mechanical or neurogenic etiologies. Prompt surgical exploration and repair are required for restoration of normal function. In cases where prompt surgical intervention is not performed or the levator palpebrae superioris aponeurosis cannot be repaired, the restorative options are limited. The options are further restricted by concurrent ipsilateral frontalis paresis. This report details a spontaneous return of levator function nine months after complete traumatic transection of the levator palpebrae superioris aponeurosis complicated by concurrent ipsilateral frontalis paresis.

PURPOSE: Our objective was to demonstrate the efficacy of a telehealth training course on high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy for gynecologic cancer treatment for clinicians in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

METHODS: A 12-week course consisting of 16 live video sessions was offered to 10 cancer centers in the Middle East, Africa, and Nepal. A total of 46 participants joined the course, and 22 participants, on average, attended each session. OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis that infants born < 30 weeks' gestation supported by Seattle-PAP will have lower rates of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) failure than infants supported with conventional, Fisher&Paykel-CPAP (FP-CPAP).

STUDY DESIGN: Randomized trial (3/2017-01/2019) at 5 NICUs. The primary outcome was CPAP failure; subgroup analyses (gestational age, receipt antenatal corticosteroids) were performed.

RESULTS: A total of 232 infants were randomized. Infants in the Seattle-PAP and FP-CPAP groups had mean gestational ages of 27.0 and 27.2 weeks, respectively. We observed no differences in rates of treatment failure between Seattle-PAP (40/112, 35.7%) and FP-CPAP (38/120, 31.7%; risk difference, 4.1%; 95% CI, -8.1-16.2; P = 0.51). Bazex syndrome is a rare paraneoplastic dermatosis that precedes diagnosis of cancer. Awareness of this syndrome is important, as it allows early detection of underlying malignancy and may prevent misdiagnosis and delays in cancer treatment.
