Study evaluated splenic function in childhood cancer survivors (CCS) who had received radiation to the spleen utilizing pRBC PIT (vesiculated erythrocytes) count compared to a non-radiated control group. Those exposed to < 20 Gy of radiation had PIT counts not significantly different from the control group. There was trend for higher pRBC PIT count in those exposed to higher doses of radiation.

High-dose methotrexate dosage and infusion durations differ across treatment protocols for pediatric leukemia, lymphoma, and osteosarcoma. Supportive care interventions are dependent on a patient's elimination of methotrexate (MTX). Therefore, it is important to establish the expected MTX elimination across protocols. Using modeling and simulation of real-world data, we determined the expected MTX concentrations at common time points from the start of infusion (24, 36, 42, 48, 60, and 72 hours) and the time that each patient would reach a typical discharge threshold (0.4, 0.2, 0.15, and 0.10 µM). These data provide a reference for MTX concentrations for common pediatric protocols.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with Down syndrome (DS) typically exhibit lower cardiorespiratory fitness and reduced moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) compared to persons without disability. Approximately 50-55 % of individuals with DS have congenital heart disease (CHD), which is associated with cardiopulmonary deficiencies and reduced MVPA participation in non-DS populations. It is unknown if CHD related comorbidities compound with DS associated deficits in physical activity and fitness.

PURPOSE: Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is used as consolidation for pediatric patients with high-risk AML in first complete remission (CR1). The definition of high-risk AML has evolved considerably over the past two decades with the successive identification of new unfavorable risk factors. OBJECTIVES: Status epilepticus (SE) is a neurologic emergency that requires urgent recognition and medical management. SE management remains heterogeneous across centers.

METHODS: We analyzed SE treatment protocols from level 3 and level 4 epilepsy centers. Discrete data including stabilization measures, timing of treatment phases, medications, doses, and routes of administration were collected from each protocol and described using frequency for categorical variables and median for continuous variables. The distribution of treatment times and dosing were compared with the AES guideline.

Pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis (POMS) is a central nervous system neurodegenerative disease impacting individuals who experience symptom onset prior to the age of 18-years-old.17 Children and adolescents diagnosed with POMS prior to 16-years-old are considered as early POMS cases. 1,6,10,11, 18 The current case study presents an 11-year-old boy, “Patient A,” who was diagnosed with POMS at 10-years-old. PURPOSE: To assess the validity and reliability of a newly adapted Tampa Scale for KP for adolescents with HD (TSK-Heart-A).

METHODS: The TSK-Heart-A survey consists of 17 Likert scale items, producing a summary score (SS) ranging from 17 (low KP) to 68 (high KP). Following content and face validity, adolescents (age 12-18 yr) with arrhythmia disorders or Fontan palliation were recruited. Glucagon-like peptide-1 agonists (GLP-1A) are increasingly prescribed to treat obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus in children and adolescents. Emerging evidence suggesting neuropsychiatric effects presents an opportunity for pediatric psychopharmacology but requires careful consideration of potential adverse effects and risk of misuse. This article reviews the psychological distress experienced by NICU families, including anxiety, postpartum depression (PPD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), in addition to providing recommendations for clinicians at the individual, institutional, and national level. Currently, mental health screenings, specialized evaluations, and treatment options are not routinely offered to NICU families and are frequently under-utilized when offered. Here we provide expert opinion recommendations to address challenges in supporting universal screening, offering bedside interventions, including trained mental health professionals in care plans, updating neonatology training competencies, and advocating for policies that support the mental health of NICU families.
