Introduction: Coronary artery involvement is the most dreaded long-term complication of Kawasaki disease. Our aim was to look at the pattern of cardiovascular involvement in Pakistani children admitted with Kawasaki disease.
Methods: This study included children admitted with Kawasaki disease at the Aga Khan University Hospital Karachi over a period of 14 years from January 1997 to December 2010. Information gathered included patient demographics, clinical features, investigations, echocardiographic findings, treatment and follow-up. Those with coronary artery involvement on initial echocardiogram remained on long-term follow-up with clinical examination and echocardiogram.

Objective: To determine the 30-day complication rate of radical cystectomy and urinary diversion using a validated system.
Study Design: An analytical descriptive study.
Place and Duration of Study: The Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, from 1990 to 2010.
Methodology: Patients who had undergone ileal conduit (IC) formation, following radical cystectomy (RC) for muscle invasive transitional cell carcinoma, were studied, using a prospectively maintained data base. OBJECTIVE:

To identify the characteristics of unintentional domestic injury in children living in a semi-rural area of Karachi.

METHODS:

This retrospective descriptive study was carried out at a private hospital located at the northern outskirts of Karachi, Pakistan, from January 2005 to January 2007. We enrolled 271 out-patient children of either gender with a positive injury history. A questionnaire inquiring socio-demographic characteristics, timing of injury, monthly variation, injury pattern and factors was filled out. Descriptive analysis and Chi-square test were applied to find out the statistically significant differences.

Injury to an immature permanent tooth may result in cessation of dentin deposition and root maturation leaving an open root apex and thin dentinal walls that are prone to fracture. Endodontic treatment is often complicated and protracted with an uncertain prognosis frequently resulting in pre-mature tooth loss. Neonatal Hyperbilirubinaemia is a common finding during the first postnatal week. Physiological jaundice occurs in first week of life in 60% of term and 80% of premature neonates. Non physiologic or pathologic jaundice occurs in 5-10% of newborns which require intervention. According to AAP guidelines laboratory investigation for jaundice include total serum bilirubin, blood Type and coombs test and if the baby has an elevation of direct reacting or conjugated bilirubin, there should be a urine analysis and urine culture. Background: Fibroids are benign smooth muscle tumours of the uterus common in women of reproductive age. The prevalence is thought to be higher amongst women over the age of 35 years and in African women. More women are delaying their child bearing leading to an increase in the number of women dealing with pregnancy in the context of fibroids. Objective: To evaluate midazolam as an epidural analgesic in patients undergoing single-level microdiscectomy.
Methods: This prospective case control study was carried out at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, from January 20 to September 20, 2007, on patients undergoing microdiscectomy. Cases (group A) received midazolam with saline, while controls (group B) received saline only, placed intra-operatively over involved nerve root. Post-operatively, patients were monitored for various variables. Data was analysed using SPSS 13.0 and groups were compared using student's t-test for continuous variables and chi square for categorical variables. P-value <0.05 was considered significant.
