Most shoulder labral tears are partial and treated with surgery, but rarely they are “panlabral” around the entire shoulder. Due to infrequency panlabral tears aren’t well understood, and thus this study compares outcomes between panlabral and more common SLAP tears. We hypothesize no difference in outcomes based on surgeon experiences.

Methods:

This is a retrospective cohort study of shoulder labrum repairs at Rothman Institute from 2006-2016. All patients received arthroscopic repair and were categorized to compare panlabral to SLAP tears. An estimated 7-12% of patients have negative cultures despite clear clinical evidence of infection. One oft-cited reason for this occurrence is the administration of antibiotics in the weeks prior to obtaining cultures. This article reviews the influence of antibiotics on the diagnosis of PJI. Risk factors for developing POUR have traditionally included surrogate markers such as the presence or absence of urologic disease. Methods: Ninety-nine patients undergoing primary meniscectomy or meniscal repair were assessed for participation. A prospective randomized control trial was performed in accordance with the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials 2010 (CONSORT) statement. Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common joint disorder in the U.S. and a leading cause of disability. Depression and obesity are highly comorbid among knee OA patients, and the combination of obesity and depression is associated with decreased physical activity, higher pain and disability, and more rapid cartilage degradation. Depression, obesity and OA exacerbate one another and share a common pathophysiology involving systemic inflammation and pro-inflammatory cytokines, reflecting a complex mind-body interaction. Guidelines for doctors managing osteoporosis in the Asia-Pacific region vary widely. We compared 18 guidelines for similarities and differences in five key areas. We then used a structured consensus process to develop clinical standards of care for the diagnosis and management of osteoporosis and for improving the quality of care.

Recently, fructosamine has shown promising results in predicting adverse outcomes following total knee arthroplasty. The purpose of this study was to assess the utility of fructosamine to predict adverse outcomes following total hip arthroplasty (THA). A prospective multi-center study involving four institutions was conducted. All primary THA were evaluated for glycemic control using fructosamine levels prior to surgery. Introduction: To determine whether the Electronic Pre-participation Physical Examination (EPPE), a proprietary and frequently used tool, is an effective method for depression and anxiety screening in the collegiate athlete population as compared to the Patient Health Questionnaire-4 (PHQ-4).

Methods: College athletes at a Division III university completed PHQ-4 questionnaires and a proprietary EPPE. Positive reponse rates to depression and/or anxiety for both questionnaires were collected and analyzed with a kappa (κ) statistic.

According to the literature, the deformity has been associated with acute medial collateral ligament tears, turf toe variant injuries, Lisfranc injury patterns, and first metatarsal fractures. As orthopaedic surgery residency becomes more competitive, so does the drive among applicants to improve their residency applications. This descriptive review of the output of the orthopaedic residency programme of Aga Khan University, Karachi, comprised information regarding the number of graduated residents and their educational background which was retrieved from departmental records. Information about their work location, subspecialty, current working status, participation in medical camps and national disaster relief efforts were obtained from various sources, including fellow surgeons, and social media profiles. From 1989 to 2017, a total of 48 residents graduated from the programme, with only 2(4.2%) of them being females. Aside from the more common dorsal avulsion fractures, isolated triquetral body fractures are a rare injury and often missed. When they are identified, conservative treatment via immobilization is often the standard of care for initial treatment. Rarely, triquetral body fractures can develop into symptomatic nonunions, causing considerable pain and disability. Multiple classification schemes have been described to categorize triquetrum fractures; however, distal triquetrum fractures fit into none of the established models. Introduction: Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tears are an extremely common orthopedic injury, with an incidence ranging from 39-52 per 100,000. Knee Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans are the gold standard for diagnosing ACL tears and their comorbidities, such as posterolateral corner injuries; the results of these scans determine the appropriate treatment needed for patients. There is evidence that machine learning can be used to automate the detection of pathology on MRI, and we hypothesize that we can train a neural network machine learning model to accurately interpret ACL injuries and posterolateral corner injuries.

Background: There is an estimated $760 to $935 billion in annual cost of waste in the United States healthcare system. $12.8 to $28.6 billion is attributed to wasteful studies/treatments. In an effort to examine current waste in our institution, we examined the use of radiographs in orthopedic patients evaluated in our pediatric emergency department (ED). The pediatric population is largely unable to make decisions for themselves and thus are susceptible to unneeded studies.
