Introduction. Physiologic changes in respiratory tract in elderly increase incidence of post-operative pneumonia. Post-operative pneumonia in non-thoracic surgery was found higher in abdominal surgery. This study aimed to develop a prediction model of 30-day post-operative pneumonia in elderly patients undergoing abdominal surgery.

Methods. A retrospective cohort study was conducted using elderly patient’s medical records who underwent abdominal surgery in Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital. Multivariate analysis using logistic regression was used to determine Odds Ratio (OR). Model’s calibration performance was determined by Hosmer-Lameshow test and its discrimination performance was determined by calculating area under the curve (AUC).

Providers currently rely on universal screening to identify health-related social needs (HRSNs). Predicting HRSNs using EHR and community-level data could be more efficient and less resource intensive. Using machine learning models, we evaluated the predictive performance of HRSN status from EHR and community-level social determinants of health (SDOH) data for Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries participating in the Accountable Health Communities Model. We hypothesized that Medicaid insurance coverage would predict HRSN status. All models significantly outperformed the baseline Medicaid hypothesis. AUCs ranged from 0.59 to 0.68. Study objective: This study sought to assess the predictive value of H2FPEF score in patients with COVID-19.

Design: Retrospective study.

Participants: A total of 1682 patients had an echocardiogram in the year preceding their COVID-19 admission with a preserved ejection fraction (≥50%). A total of 156 patients met inclusion criteria. Introduction: The incidence of infective endocarditis (IE) in pregnancy is rare and has been increasing during the opioid epidemic. IE in pregnancy is associated with high rates of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Multidisciplinary endocarditis teams for management of IE have been shown to reduce in-hospital and 1-year mortality. We present a single-center experience managing IE in pregnancy utilizing a multidisciplinary endocarditis team.

Introduction: Persistent symptoms have been observed in a substantial proportion of survivors of COVID-19 since relatively early in the pandemic. Among these post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC), respiratory symptoms appear to be the most prevalent.

Methods: We conducted a literature review of peer-reviewed publications in English on the clinical and epidemiological features of respiratory PASC in cohorts of 100 or more patients with a follow-up of four weeks or more after acute infection. BACKGROUND: Mild encephalitis/encephalopathy with reversible splenial lesion is a clinical-radiological entity found to occur in the setting of an acute systemic inflammatory state with isolated lesions of the splenium of the corpus callosum and mild encephalopathy. Mild encephalitis/encephalopathy with reversible splenial lesion is commonly found to occur in children in the setting of viral infections. Infectious aortitis is an uncommon but life-threatening cause of aortitis. Given the lack of specific symptoms, establishing the diagnosis is often a challenge. When it is associated with an endovascular infection, such as infective endocarditis, blood cultures may be diagnostic although often limited by low positive predictive value. Imaging studies may reveal characteristic findings, with computerized tomography angiography being the most sensitive. Empyema is a serious complication of pneumonia and has been reported to have a mortality rate of 8.7%. For methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) empyema, treatment includes drainage and specific antibiotics such as vancomycin and linezolid. Strikingly, there are increasing incidences of empyema refractory to vancomycin and linezolid. Despite being inactivated in the lung parenchyma by pulmonary surfactant, daptomycin can penetrate the pleural space and may be better at treating MRSA empyema than vancomycin and linezolid. Background: Response to the COVID-19 pandemic has required innovative approaches to vaccination, including methods to rapidly and safely immunize communities. A major challenge to such a response involved access to untapped healthcare worker resources. The Louisville, Kentucky, response involved the use of a large volunteer workforce to supplement local public health employees in planning and implementing a large-scale drive-through vaccination event. The objective of this manuscript was to outline processes involved in training a mass immunization workforce and implementating a large-scale COVID-19 community vaccination.
