Purpose: The purpose of this project was to determine the effectiveness of the Seek, Help, Assess, Reach, and Evaluate (SHARE) approach in the management of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in the Hispanic population at a primary care clinic while improving health literacy. The aim was that by February 2025, Hispanic patients at the clinic would achieve a 10% reduction in CVD risk factors.

Background: The project was implemented at a small private primary care clinic in Texas. CVD risk factors prevalent include hypertension, mixed hyperlipidemia, and diabetes mellitus.

Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) is an inherited retinal disease characterized by rod and then cone photoreceptor degeneration. ~25% of cases are caused by a genetic mutation that results in autosomal dominant RP (adRP). There has been a lack of exploration of the progression of degeneration in adRP models. Aims/hypothesis: Growing evidence suggests that timing may be an important aspect of physical activity that influences cardiometabolic health. However, the current literature is inconclusive regarding the time of day that physical activity offers the greatest metabolic advantages. We investigated associations between hourly physical activity levels and diabetes mellitus and glycaemic biomarkers in a cross-sectional and nationally representative sample of US adults.

Introduction: The coexistence of renal cell carcinoma and classic Hodgkin lymphoma is exceedingly rare, with only two documented cases. Here, we present the third case diagnosed in our institution.

Case presentation: A 46-year-old man presented with right flank pain, fever, mild pancytopenia, and renal mass on computed tomography scan, suggesting renal malignancy. Despite intravenous antibiotics and extensive workup for recurrent fever, his condition did not improve. A bone marrow biopsy revealed rare large EBV-positive B cells. Surprisingly, imaging only showed minimal intraabdominal lymphadenopathy in the perinephric region. Subsequent surgery confirmed clear cell renal cell carcinoma in the kidney and scattered …

The pathobiology of aortic disease is linked to aortic region: atherosclerosis for abdominal aorta, primary medial degeneration or aortitis for ascending thoracic aorta, and all causes for descending thoracic aorta and thoracoabdominal lesions. The pathogenesis of aortic dissection involves damage of the outer media from impaired perfusion from dysfunctional vasa vasorum, formation of discrete foci of disrupted vascular smooth muscle cell-elastic fiber extension-contractile units, and imbalance of radial sheer stress across the aortic wall, thereby creating an intimal tear and linear dissection. Background: Ductal features alone may not offer high diagnostic sensitivity or most accurate disease severity of chronic pancreatitis (CP).

Purpose: Diagnose CP based on multiparametric MRI and MRCP features.

Study type: Prospective.

Population: Between February 2019 and May 2021, 46 control (23 males, 49.3 ± 14.1 years), 45 suspected (20 males, 48.7 ± 12.5 years), and 46 definite (20 males, 53.7 ± 14.6 years) CP patients were enrolled at seven hospitals enrolled in the MINIMAP study. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the validity of the Veterans Affairs Low Vision Visual Functioning Questionnaire (VALVVFQ-48) functional vision scores (FVS) in patients with USH2A-associated retinal degeneration. In addition, to correlate the change in the VALVVFQ-48 FVS with the change in visual function (VF) measurements.

With the advent of catheter guided interventions, practitioners have added another tool alongside chemical lysis and surgical removal to reduce the clot burden of patients with large emboli and thrombi. Due to comorbid conditions, many patients are poor candidates for surgical or chemical clot treatment but may present optimally for catheter-based thromboembolectomy. In this case, we highlight the benefits of mechanical thrombectomy with transesophageal echocardiographic guidance to reduce the clot burden of a patient who would otherwise be considered a poor candidate for surgical or chemical treatment.

Macrophages are highly plastic cells central to pathogen removal, tissue regeneration, and inflammation, making them key targets in biomaterial design for improved clinical outcomes. Foreign body responses (FBRs) to implanted biomaterials often involve excessive macrophage-mediated inflammation, leading to fibrotic encapsulation, infection, and implant failure. Advances in tissue engineering demonstrate that macrophage polarization - the transition from pro-inflammatory M1 to anti-inflammatory M2 phenotypes - can be influenced by biomaterial properties to mitigate these responses and enhance regeneration. Germ cell tumors of the testis (GCTs) provide an ideal tumor model to investigate the cellular versus genetic origin of cancers. In this single institutional study, we evaluated 38 patients with bilateral GCT, including tumors that occurred simultaneously (synchronous) and those occurring at different times (metachronous). For nine of these patients, DNA was isolated from the right and left GCT to determine the genomic and epigenetic differences between tissues using whole-exome sequencing (WES) and reduced representation bisulfite sequencing (RRBS). We found that seminomas and non-seminomas are molecularly distinct based on DNA methylation and not due to synchronous or metachronous disease. …

Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder, caused by the damage to and death of dopamine-releasing neurons in the brain. The substantia nigra is a major region housing dopaminergic neurons and plays a critical role in motor and cognitive function. When these neurons are compromised, dopamine levels decline, leading to the development of motor and cognitive dysfunction. Current treatments include dopamine precursors, which help to replace dopamine and relieve motor symptoms. AutoRadAI, an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) framework, was developed to address this clinical challenge while demonstrating broader potential for diverse medical imaging applications. Ovarian cancer is associated with high rates of patient mortality and morbidity. Laparoscopic assessment of tumor localization can be used for treatment planning in newly diagnosed high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC). While spread to multiple intra-abdominal areas is correlated with worse outcomes, whether other morphological tumor differences are also associated with patient outcomes is unknown. Sleep deprivation is a well-known risk factor for increased likelihood, intensity, and length of seizures. BACKGROUND: Radiation-related laryngotracheal stenosis (RLTS) develops due to fibrosis of the airway after radiotherapy. We aim to characterize the presentation, management, and outcomes of patients with RLTS and compare these to patients with iatrogenic laryngotracheal stenosis (ILTS).

METHODS: In a single-center retrospective cohort study, patients diagnosed with RLTS between 2017 and 2022 were identified. Background/Objectives: High-intensity interval training (HIIT) and time-restricted feeding (TRF) have shown potential in enhancing glucose metabolism, increasing insulin sensitivity, and promoting muscle health. This study investigates the combined effects of HIIT and TRF on the AKT-IGF-1-mTOR signaling pathway in the muscle tissue of type 2 diabetic (T2D) rats.

BACKGROUND: Desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) poses a diagnostic challenge, initiating with imaging techniques like ultrasound, CT, MRI, and PET scans, with CT being the primary choice for abdominal tumor visualization. Despite advances, the absence of a standardized staging system complicates the diagnostic process.

METHODS: A comprehensive literature review and search strategy, encompassing databases like PubMed and Cochrane was performed.

RESULTS: Systemic chemotherapy, notably the P6 regimen, is the cornerstone of DSRCT treatment, while other options, including CDK4/6 inhibitors, antibody-drug conjugates, and anlotinib present varying efficacy.
