Extracellular vesicles (EVs) function as potent mediators of intercellular communication for many in vivo processes, contributing to both health and disease related conditions. Given their biological origins and diverse functionality from correspondingly unique "cargo" compositions, both endogenous and modified EVs are garnering attention as promising therapeutic modalities and vehicles for targeted therapeutic delivery applications. Their diversity in composition, however, has revealed a significant need for more comprehensive analytical-based characterization methods, and manufacturing processes that are consistent and scalable. Angioedema is the swelling of deeper layers of skin caused by a build-up fluid, oftentimes due to the culmination of immune system activation against allergens. There are several causes of angioedema, including animal dander, exposure to various foods, insect bites, and medications such as Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). This swelling primarily presents periorbital and periorally, however can also less-commonly affect the airway. Angioedema can be life-threatening if involving the throat and larynx given the potential of respiratory airway compromise. Background: Acute coronary syndrome patients presenting with Cardiogenic shock carry a very high mortality risk >70% without appropriate intervention in a timely fashion. Here we present a patient requiring an axial pump mechanical circulatory support despite having an apical thrombus. Case report: 55-year-old male with past medical history of type 2 diabetes mellitus and medication noncompliance was transferred from outside facility for high risk ACS with EKG showing ST segment elevation in inferior and anterolateral leads. Lab showed hsTroponin more than 125K, BG 556, HCO3 17, and Beta hydroxybutyrate of 41.87 indicating DKA. Emergent coronary angiography showed mid LAD artery …

Background: Hypertension (HTN) that is not adequately controlled leads to cardiovascular disease, stroke, and heart disease. It affects 116 million adults (47%) in the United States (U.S.). The HTN compliance rate in a South Texas public health clinic was 64%, below the national benchmark of 76%. Home blood pressure monitoring (HBPM) was recommended in a joint statement by the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Medical Association (AMA). Literature evidence revealed that the HBPM bundle increased BP control (< 140/90 mmHg) compliance.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the correlation between vascular endothelium-dependent diastolic function (FMD) and the degree of coronary artery disease (CAD), plaque vulnerability, and its predictive value for cardiovascular events.

Objectives: The objective of this study is to examine the overall as well as age- and sex-specific burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) among adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in the US using nationwide commercial claims data from 2016-2019.

Research Design and Methods We used nationwide commercial claims data (1/1/2016-12/31/2019) from Merative™MarketScan to identify adults ≥20 years with T1D (ascertained using ICD-10 codes). CVD was ascertained using ICD-10 diagnostic codes for myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, peripheral arterial disease, and stroke. Moderate intensity continuous training (MICT) is the most studied method in cardiac rehabilitation (CR) for patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Traditionally, resistance training has been utilized as a secondary role in CR. Recent interest in the topic suggests that MICT and resistance training should be applied collectively, an approach termed concurrent training (CT). Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), the most common congenital heart defect, is a major cause of aortic valve disease requiring valve interventions and thoracic aortic aneurysms predisposing to acute aortic dissections. The spectrum of BAV ranges from early onset valve and aortic complications (EBAV) to sporadic late onset disease. Rare genomic copy number variants (CNVs) have previously been implicated in the development of BAV and thoracic aortic aneurysms. We determined the frequency and gene content of rare CNVs in EBAV probands (n = 272) using genome-wide SNP microarray analysis and three complementary CNV detection algorithms (cnvPartition, PennCNV, and QuantiSNP). Introduction: IgA vasculitis, formerly known as Henoch-Schoenlein purpura, is a subtype of leukocytoclastic vasculitis (LCV) and approximately 90% are seen in the pediatric population. In the adult population, it is more frequently associated with a more severe clinical course. Causes of IgA vasculitis may be idiopathic or may be secondary to infections or medications. Etanercept is a tumor necrosis factor-alpha fusion protein that has been rarely associated with LCV. Case presentation: A 59-year-old female with a 2-year history of red-to-violaceous purpuric papules on the bilateral lower extremities.
