Aim: The purpose of this study was to measure serum prolidase activity and interleukin-2 and 6 (IL-2, IL-6) levels and to investigate the relationship of these parameters with bone mineral density (BMD) and bone turnover markers in postmenopausal women with and without osteoporosis. Materials and Methods: 59 postmenopausal women were included in this study (21 women with osteoporosis and 38 without). Serum IL-2 and IL-6 levels, prolidase activity, osteocalcin (OSC), calcium (Ca), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), urinary deoxypyridinoline (DPD) and BMD were measured in postmenopausal women with and without osteoporosis. Aim: Although there is evidence of a positive association between psoriasis and body mass index (BMI) and leptin is known to play a part in the regulation of the immune system, the relationship between psoriasis and leptin is still not well known. The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible relation between leptin and psoriasis. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate possible effects of cooking techniques on antioxidant enzyme activities in broccoli, tomato, red cabbage, parsley, carrot, green pepper, lemon, onion, and garlic, which are consumed frequently in our daily diet. Materials and Methods: Superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and catalase (CAT) activities were measured in fresh and thermally treated (boiling, microwaving and baking) fruits and vegetables. Aim: Split hand-split foot malformation (SHFM) results from central ray reduction and presents as median clefts of the hands and feet, syndactyly, aplasia or hypoplasia of the phalanges, metacarpals and metatarsals, which are frequently associated with other phenotypic abnormalities. We aimed to investigate the genetic pathway of SHFM in a child. Materials and methods: Cytogenetic and molecular genetic analysis was performed in a 10-day-old boy with split-syndactyly hand and flat-syndactyly foot. Metformin is an oral hypoglycemic agent that is commonly used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. While metformin-associated metabolic acidosis is a widely recognized side effect of this drug, metformin-induced hepatotoxicity has been rarely reported in the literature. We present herein the case of a 52-year-old male in whom metformin-associated lactic acidosis and metformin-induced hepatotoxicity developed.

Giant hydronephrosis (GH) is a rare entity that may mimic progressive and benign abdominal cystic tumors. Despite the increase in the use of prenatal ultrasound, GH may still be seen in the adult population. We report a case of GH in a 19-year-old female who presented with a progressive abdominal distention and other gastrointestinal symptoms. Diagnostic and therapeutic features of this rare case are discussed in light of the current literature.

Horner´S Syndrome Post-Excision Of A Huge Cervical Sympathetic Chain Schwannoma, Sedat Aydin, Ari̇f Şanli, Ömer Taşdemi̇r, Ayli̇n Ege Gül

Schwannoma of the cervical sympathetic chain is a rare nerve tumor. These lesions typically present as an asymptomatic neck mass and are easily mistaken for a carotid body tumor during the initial work-up. In this report, a rarely seen huge cervical sympathetic chain schwannoma case, who experienced partial Horner´s syndrome postoperatively, is presented. We report a case of schwannoma on the cervical sympathetic chain, which to our knowledge is the largest reported in the current literature.

Inflammatory fibroid polyps are uncommon gastrointestinal tract lesions. The stomach and ileum are the most commonly affected sites. Clinical symptoms depend on the location and size of the lesion. Obstruction or intussusception is the most frequent initial symptom when an inflammatory fibroid polyp is located in the small intestine. We describe two cases of inflammatory fibroid polyps of the small intestine causing ileocecal and ileoileal intussusception.

Aim: The insertion of ventilation tubes at the time of cleft palate surgery is a controversial issue. We assessed the status of hearing and the middle ear in long-term follow-up after the treatment of cleft palate. The presence of a supernumerary tooth in the nose is an unusual phenomenon and a rare form of ectopic tooth eruption in the maxillofacial region. In this case, the patient was referred to the hospital with the complaint of severe headache. In the endoscopic examination, the supernumerary tooth crown was not covered with mucosa or granulation tissue. In the present study, the clinical and radiological diagnosis of a supernumerary tooth located in the nose is reported.

Congenital gastrointestinal duplications are rare, and gastric duplication cysts are even rarer. Most cases are seldom diagnosed preoperatively. We present a case of gastric duplication cyst, which in preoperative imaging studies mimicked a hydatid/pseudocyst of the pancreas. The diagnosis was made only intraoperatively and was confirmed by histopathological examination of the completely excised cyst.

Tuberous sclerosis is a rare genetic disorder. The diagnosis of tuberous sclerosis requires the presence of two major or one major and two minor features. Pulmonary involvement has been reported to occur in less than 1% in patients and carries a poor prognosis. We present a female tuberous sclerosis patient with pulmonary involvement, evaluated for a positive PPD reaction.

Chondroblastic osteosarcoma (COS), a subgroup of intramedullary osteosarcoma, is usually located in the knee region of the body. It is most common in adolescents and early adulthood. Aim: The precise pathogenetic mechanisms causing thrombotic complications in Behçet´s disease (BD) are still not known. To explain the pathogenesis with coagulation induction or a defective fibrinolysis superimposed on endothelial dysfunction, various hemostatic parameters were studied. Thrombin activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFI), downregulating plasmin generation and fibrinolysis, is a novel risk factor for thrombotic disorders. Aim: There is a variation in drug response among individuals. In this study, we determined angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) insertion/deletion (I/D), beta2-adrenergic receptor (ADRB2) Arg16Gly and dopamine D1 receptor (DRD1) -48 G/A polymorphisms, which are presumed to be related to the transient hypertension induced by the mechanical stimulation of laryngoscopy and tracheal intubation/extubation. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the dose-related effects of fenthion on the liver and kidney and the correlation between severity of organ damage and serum butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) enzyme levels. Materials and Methods: Ninety rats were randomly subdivided into control group and 4 study groups. Control group was administered 1 ml of saline intraperitoneally. Study groups received 25, 50, 75 and 100 mg/kg of fenthion, intraperitoneally. Blood samples and renal and hepatic tissues were collected 24 h after dosing and survival was monitored for 7 days.
