Assessment Of The Need For Provider Education On Screening For Depression In Patients With Select Dermatologic Problems, Sarah B. Zerhusen
Assessment Of The Need For Provider Education On Screening For Depression In Patients With Select Dermatologic Problems, Sarah B. Zerhusen
DNP Projects
PURPOSE: The purpose of this project is to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, perceptions, skills, and self-efficacy of dermatology providers’ assessment of depression in patients with chronic skin disease to determine the need for continuing education programs.
METHODS: This is a single practice, multi site, quantitative correlational design study to assess provider use, comfort, and proficiency of screening and discussion of depression in patients suffering from plaque psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Data was collected through the use of a questionnaire dispensed in January of 2018. The sample consisted of 23 dermatology providers in a dermatology practice with clinics in Louisville, Lebanon, …
Methods To Improve Interprofessional Collaboration In Administrative Dyads, Julie Lee Hudson
Methods To Improve Interprofessional Collaboration In Administrative Dyads, Julie Lee Hudson
DNP Projects
Abstract
PURPOSE: The primary objective of this project was to determine if specific interventions, to include education, rounding, and regular meetings, improved collaboration and communication for nurse/physician dyads working in acute care hospital administrative roles.
METHODS: The study employed a prospective pre-test and post-test comparison of participants’ scores on a validated survey tool. This tool (JeffSATIC) measured perception of collaboration between nurses and physicians. The objective was to evaluate the differences in these scores in participants before and after an intervention.
RESULTS: This study sought to discover if specific interventions impacted scores on a tool measuring collaboration among dyad pairs. …

Contemporary state-of-the-art healthcare facilities are incorporating technology into their building design to improve communication and patient care. However, technological innovations may also have unintended consequences. This study seeks to better understand how technology influences interprofessional communication within a hospital setting based in the United States. Nine focus groups were conducted including a range of healthcare professions. The focus groups explored practitioners’ experiences working on two floors of a newly designed hospital and included questions about the ways in which technology shaped communication with other healthcare professionals. All focus groups were recorded, transcribed, and coded to identify themes. Participant responses focused …
Vocal Function Exercises For Normal Voice: With And Without Semi-Occlusion, Megan Suzanne Brown
Vocal Function Exercises For Normal Voice: With And Without Semi-Occlusion, Megan Suzanne Brown
Theses and Dissertations--Communication Sciences and Disorders
The primary purpose of this investigation was to explore the effects of varying degrees of vocal tract semi-occlusion in Vocal Function Exercises (VFEs) on attainment of pre- established maximum phonation time (MPT) goals in individuals between the ages of 18 and 45 with normal voice. Individuals were randomized into three experimental groups: the traditional VFE with a semi-occluded vocal tract (SOVT), modified /o/ with partial occlusion, and modified /a/ without significant occlusion. For six weeks, the participants completed the four exercises two times each, twice daily on corresponding vocal tract postures assigned by group. Results indicated significant change in percent …
The Effect Of Trauma-Informed Care Training On The Knowledge And Awareness Of Medical Professionals At Kentucky Children’S Hospital, Laura Broughton
The Effect Of Trauma-Informed Care Training On The Knowledge And Awareness Of Medical Professionals At Kentucky Children’S Hospital, Laura Broughton
DNP Projects
Background: Many children who present to the hospital require treatments and procedures in their medical care that can be potentially emotionally traumatic for themselves and their families. Medical professionals caring for these children may also experience emotional trauma symptoms related to their work. A trauma-informed care approach to medical care may help to lessen these negative consequences in both patients and medical professionals. Purpose: The objective of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a one-hour training on trauma-informed care to nurses at Kentucky Children’s Hospital. Methods: Nurses participated in a one-hour interactive seminar and completed pre- and post-measures …
Evaluation Of Educational Intervention And Management Of Patients With Type Ii Diabetes Mellitus, Elissa Johnson
Evaluation Of Educational Intervention And Management Of Patients With Type Ii Diabetes Mellitus, Elissa Johnson
DNP Projects
Background: Diabetes is a costly disease with devastating consequences. Patients with poor glucose control whether due to inadequate medical care or limited self-care are most at risk for complications. Evidence supports the efficacy of multifaceted interventions in the treatment of type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Patient education, assessing behavioral and psychosocial elements, and focusing on lifestyle change (e.g. diet and exercise) are interventions shown to enhance self-efficacy and promote patient empowerment (Knight, Dornan, & Bundy, 2005).
Study Design: A retrospective chart review of 104 patients with established T2DM was conducted along with a qualitative interview with providers focused on management …
A Debriefing Technique In High-Fidelity Patient Simulation And Competent Decision-Making Abilities Among Nursing Students, Trena Seago
Theses and Dissertations--Curriculum and Instruction
Nursing faculty are utilizing high-fidelity patient simulation (HPS) with debriefing to help engage nursing students in making competent clinical decisions. This quasi-experimental study examined the use of HPS with debriefing and students’ ability to make nursing care decisions using standardized exams. The experimental group received debriefing after HPS and the control group did not receive debriefing after HPS. The pre- and post-test assessed participants’ ability to make clinical care decisions. The analysis of the pre-test and post-test HESI scores showed that there was no significant difference between the two groups.
