This qualitative research explored the impact of immersive virtual reality (VR) experiences on student pharmacist knowledge, attitudes, and anticipated behaviors, when used as a supplement to traditional didactic education. Participants completed one or more simulated VR experiences role-playing a person with Alzheimer's Disease, which included experiencing realistic visual and auditory disturbances, struggling with language comprehension, and displaying symptoms of aphasia. Post experience, students completed several short essay prompts. Overall, the study assessed student's self-perceived empathy and anticipated changes to provision of patient care as a result of this activity. We are an interprofessional team that worked together to discuss and treat a patient suffering from Long COVID-19. At the beginning, we came in with assumptions of other professions and carried our biases into the group. However, as we witnessed these professions interact with our Long COVID-19 patient, Amanda, our views and biases began to change. We were privileged to see how interprofessional teams interact and come together for the betterment of our patient.

The objective of this study was to assess changes in students’ comfort with talking about and caring for patients at EOL. A gap in the degree of instruction regarding palliative care in pharmacy curricula has been identified. The use of a virtual reality experience (VRE) has been shown to increase students’ understanding of and empathy for older adults with age-related conditions. We created a two-part palliative care series embedded into the 3rd professional year curriculum. Part one discussed perceptions of death and deprescribing at end-of-life (EOL). Presentation regarding the following research: To determine if self-assessed empathy can be increased through an end of life virtual reality (VR) experience, second year UNE COM medical students (N=174) completed the Clay Lab VR experience during January 2020. Student embodied Clay, 66 year old male veteran with incurable lung cancer. Experiences included a difficult end-of-life conversation; transition to home hospice care; and eventually death. Students were asked to complete a pre-test and post-test survey. The pre/post test surveys included eight Likert scale questions and two open-ended questions. Research poster documenting the following project: Long Creek Youth Development Center offers a variety of activities, an education, mentorship, and structure for Bearings House residents. In addition to those programs, we hoped through building a relationship with residents we could identify their occupational interests and assist in their transition to life in the community. We strived to support residents through their transition to Bearings House and give them an opportunity to further explore their interests as well as expose them to new occupations they may have not previously participated in order to help as they reintegrate into the community.

Research poster describing the following project: Supply caregivers that attended the Caring for Clients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) workshop with a care package. This care package provided tools and resources to help relieve stress and ease the burden that caregivers may be experiencing by promoting self care. Fifteen packages were distributed after the facilitation of an all day workshop on November 16, 2019. Each recipient was sent home with a survey that was to be sent back a month later to provide feedback about the contents.

Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign that was introduced by the White House in 2015 in response to the tragedy of the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012. The campaign emerged as a way to improve survival rates by providing bystanders with adequate training to know how to stop the bleed.
