Problem Statement/Question: Victims of sexual assault are at increased risk for acquiring sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and Human papillomavirus (HPV). These immunizations are not curative, but each are >95% effective at preventing infections by the included viruses. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that children who are victims of sexual abuse/assault, receive the HPV and HBV immunizations at the time of their initial medical evaluation for sexual abuse/assault. Background: Stemming from the rapid need for COVID-19 testing when supplies were limited, we investigated alternate sample processing methods and sample types for SARS-CoV-2 detection. Respiratory specimen processing using an automated nucleic acid extraction system (easyMAG) provides highly quality of nucleic acid for amplification. Reagents and supplies for easyMAG were on short supply during the pandemic, so alternative sample processing methods were investigated. Due to COVID-19 quarantine and isolation, a home kit for specimen collection was desired, particularly one that was less invasive than nasopharyngeal swabs. Background: Adequate echocardiographic (echo) education is integral to successful cardiology training. Online education is proven to be effective in other specialties, but pediatric echo training data are lacking. Our aim was to design and assess the role of a novel online module-based curriculum to enhance pediatric cardiology fellows’ echo education.

Methods: Four interactive modules, focused on principles and interpretation of a normal echo, were delivered to fellows. Background: Poorly managed pediatric pain has negative long-term outcomes, including needle phobia, increased pain and anxiety with subsequent procedures, and healthcare avoidance in adulthood. Evidence-based interventions to reduce procedural pain and anxiety are vastly underutilized, and a literature search revealed no specific curriculum to teach residents optimal skills for pain and anxiety management in minor procedures (e.g. venipuncture, laceration repair). Thus, we developed a multimedia-based lecture with PowerPoint, utilizing results from a focus group interview (conducted with 7 pediatric residents, to determine educational content and identify residents’ needs and learning preferences).

Background: Even prior to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, Children’s Mercy Kansas City’s large neurology division struggled to engage learners in educational conferences. With 113 division members across 5 locations, attending conferences was challenging. While some conferences were live-streamed, we offered no recorded lectures, and most conferences were attended solely by trainees and 3-4 select faculty. COVID-19 eliminated in-person group learning opportunities.

Background: Culture and language coaching in the CHiCoS (Clínica Hispana de Cuidados de Salud) Program provides bilingual (English-Spanish) residents with longitudinal, personalized training in health care Spanish and cultural aspects of care. This intensive 1:1 training by a culture and language coach (CLC) over three years has been shown to improve residents’ skills and family satisfaction with care. INTRODUCTION: Immunization education for physicians-in-training is crucial to address vaccine concerns in clinical practice. Vaccine education is not standardized across residency programs. The Collaboration for Vaccination Education and Research (CoVER) team developed an online curriculum for pediatric (Peds) and family medicine (FM) residents.

METHODS: A cluster randomized controlled trial (RCT) was performed during the 2017-2018 academic year to evaluate the CoVER curriculum. A convenience sample of residency institutions were randomly allocated to the intervention or control group, with stratification by residency type. Background: Vaccine education during residency is not standardized. Little is known about resident perspectives on vaccines and ideal vaccine training.

Methods: A convenience sample of pediatric and family medicine (FM) residents were surveyed using a de novo 22 question survey to understand perspectives on vaccines and current and preferred vaccine education curriculum. Responses were analyzed categorically and compared by resident year using Fisher’s Exact test.

Results: In October 2016, 126 residents from 9 pediatric and FM programs completed the survey. Resident respondents’ training levels varied. Most were 25-29 years old and female. High familiarity with vaccines and agreeing to defer …

Objectives: Fellowship program directors (FPD) and Clinical Competency Committees (CCCs) both assess fellow performance. We examined the association of entrustment levels determined by the FPD with those of the CCC for 6 common pediatric subspecialty entrustable professional activities (EPAs), hypothesizing there would be strong correlation and minimal bias between these raters.

Researchers often describe use of "bilingual/bicultural" research teams, especially for research being conducted with marginalized communities. In this perspectives article, we argue that while increasing the diversity of research teams is imperative, using the term "bilingual/bicultural" without further explanation is problematic. We first review the nuances of the terms bilingual and bicultural individually. Next, we describe how the terms bilingual and bicultural cannot be conflated. Finally, we provide recommendations for researchers, journals, and funding agencies.
