Introduction: Teleconsultation is used in tertiary care hospitals to evaluate neonatal encephalopathy. Neonates born in community hospitals, however, often experience delayed evaluation due to transport to the tertiary care center. We studied teleconsultations in community hospitals to decrease this disparity.

Methods: Prospective observational study in 9 community hospitals and 1 neonatal intensive care unit. Inclusion criteria: gestational age greater than or equal to 35 weeks and one of the following: umbilical cord pH less than or equal to 7.2, 5-minute Apgar less than 7, prolonged respiratory support, perinatal event, or abnormal neurological exam. Objective: The purpose of this pilot study is to examine patients' experience and satisfaction using telemedicine for knee and hip osteoarthritis care during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: Adult patients seen via telemedicine for knee and/or hip osteoarthritis pain completed surveys through the REDCap online platform or pen/paper evaluating their experiences and satisfaction with telemedicine, assessed using yes/no and Likert scale questions. Demographic information was collected from the electronic medical record (EMR).

Introduction: The slow increase in use of telemedicine began to expand rapidly, along with reimbursement changes, during the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Standardized protocols for these services are lacking but are needed for effective and equitable health care. In this study, we queried pediatric nephrologists and their patients about their telemedicine experiences during the pandemic.

At a regional Veterans Administration (VA) hospital, nurses performing case management were unable to perform face-to-face visits with patients due to coronavirus. Care coordination and discharge planning efforts occurred through telephonic case management to preserve personal protective equipment and reduce transmission rates through social distancing. Trust and rapport between patients and nurses were reduced without personal contact. Peplau’s theory of interpersonal relations described six nurse roles and three phases of relationship development required to create therapeutic nurse-patient relationships. Connectedness was a key concept considered to be the path to a successful meaningful therapeutic nurse-patient relationship (Hrabe, 2005).

Twelve women seen as new patients in the benign breast surgery clinic and scheduled for surgery were asked if they were interested in having their post-operative visit performed virtually. The Ryan Haight Act has established excessive restrictions on controlled substance prescribing through telemedicine by first requiring an in-person exam. If the Act is not amended, many individuals in need of medication will go without proper medical care.
