Introduction: High doses of activity-based rehabilitation therapy improve outcomes after stroke, but many patients do not receive this for various reasons such as poor access, transportation difficulties, and low compliance. Home-based telerehabilitation (TR) can address these issues. The current study evaluated the feasibility of an expanded TR program.
Methods: Under the supervision of a licensed therapist, adults with stroke and limb weakness received home-based TR (1 h/day, 6 days/week) delivered using games and exercises. New features examined include extending therapy to 12 weeks duration, treating both arm and leg motor deficits, patient assessments performed with no therapist supervision, adding sensors …

Objective: Telerehabilitation (TR) is now, in the context of COVID-19, more clinically relevant than ever as a major source of outpatient care. The social network of a patient is a critical yet understudied factor in the success of TR that may influence both engagement in therapy programs and post-stroke outcomes. We designed a 12-week home-based TR program for stroke patients and evaluated which social factors might be related to motor gains and reduced depressive symptoms.
Methods: Stroke patients (n = 13) with arm motor deficits underwent supervised home-based TR for 12 weeks with routine assessments of motor function and …

Multi-Theory Model (Mtm) As A Predictor Of Mental Health-Related Treatment Seeking Behavior: The Use Of Telehealth During Covid-19, Dallion Richards
2021 Honors Symposium
The COVID-19 pandemic has heightened psychological distress, particularly in high-risk, college student populations, and required prioritization of telehealth-based care. Help-seeking is critical for harm reduction but understanding the rapid shift to telehealth services is further obscured by significant perceived and definite barriers to utilization. Although tele-mental health services improve access to care and are perceived positively by college students, a prevalence of untreated mental health disorders remains. The objective of this study was to identify psycho-social and behavioral correlates of telehealth-based, psychological help-seeking among college students and investigate the efficacy of the Multi-theory Model of health behavior change (MTM) (Figure. …

Staff Perceptions Of The Health Call Center Workplace Environment, Eric Lee Escobedo-Wu
Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)
The complexities of the Health Call Center (HCC) amidst of a pandemic has caused an uptick in nurses and staff experiencing physical, emotional, and mental fatigue. An increase in sick calls during peak call days and times, breakroom discussion related to workload and competing patient and clinical priorities, and the consistent need to care for patients and caregivers, while maintaining familial and fiscal responsibilities and priorities contribute to the exhaustion of the nurses. The purpose of this Quality Improvement (QI) project was to use a structured survey tool and open-ended questions to identify HCC nurses’ perceptions of stressors and burnout …

[Introduction] The recent global pandemic forced telehealth to play a greater role in global healthcare delivery due to limited healthcare accessibility. The advent of innovative communication technologies has made it easier for patients to get services like health assessment, diagnosis, interventions, supervision, and information remotely. Digital imaging, decision support software, virtual reality, machine learning for error reduction, Internet of Things (IoT) such as wearable sensors, assistive robots, advances in data management (tracking, transmission, and storage), real-time analytics or store-and-forward, are some of the dynamic technologies that provide strong evidence-based support to scalable and sustainable telehealth programs.

Background: Heart failure is a chronic condition that commonly results in frequent hospitalizations and increases risk of mortality (Kotb et al., 2015; Ong et al., 2016; Pekmezaris et al., 2018). In addition, heart failure places a significant burden on healthcare costs and utilization of resources (Hale et al., 2016; Kotb et al., 2015; Ong et al., 2016). Measures to reduce heart failure readmissions, mortality, and overall costs are needed. Telemedicine interventions may be beneficial in the management of heart failure; however, the current research provides unclear and inconclusive findings in regard to the effectiveness of telemedicine interventions on heart failure …
Influence Of Telephone Preoperative Evaluations On Patient Medication Compliance On Day Of Surgery, Emmanuel Magsino, Michael Jung, Olga Suarez Md
Influence Of Telephone Preoperative Evaluations On Patient Medication Compliance On Day Of Surgery, Emmanuel Magsino, Michael Jung, Olga Suarez Md
Graduate Research Posters
Patient compliance with medication instructions on day of surgery (DOS) is an important part of the preoperative assessment, as failure to comply with these may lead to serious perioperative consequences. Prior studies have shown that compliance increases with multimodal interventions. However due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, many in-person visits transitioned to telephone visits and providers had to rely on patients to follow solely verbal instructions.
To determine medication compliance, this study compared the medication instructions provided by the VCU Preoperative Assessment Communication and Education Clinic, per chart review, with each patient’s own report of which medications they took on …

Satisfaction Of Telehealth For The 55+ Population, Cynthia Schweizer
Satisfaction Of Telehealth For The 55+ Population, Cynthia Schweizer
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
There is a primary care need for the 55+-year-old population related to the increasing aging population, physician shortages, and, more recently, Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) to implement Telehealth care. The Telehealth project will include the 55+ population to provide more participants for the project at an internal medicine clinic. Telehealth's contribution and interventions will affect causal factors such as moderating or mediating factors of health problems. Some of those factors include insufficient primary care coverage due to decreasing numbers of primary care providers (PCP), the increasing older population, complex health issues that come with aging, the need for frequent follow-up …
