In the upcoming chapters, we present our study findings as three papers ready for submission to peer-reviewed journals. The first paper describes the associations between taxa and the characteristics of the patients and clinic staff who exchange those messages. The second paper explores the associations between those taxa and patients’ healthcare utilization. The third paper presents associations between taxa and patient health outcomes for diabetes and hypertension. We conclude with how the three papers are related and highlight the importance of this research.

Background: Declining physical activity (PA) is a hallmark of aging. Wearable technology provides reliable measures of the frequency, duration, intensity, and timing of PA. Accelerometry-derived measures of PA are compared to established predictors of 5-year all-cause mortality in older adults in terms of individual, relative, and combined predictive performance.

Methods: Participants between 50 and 85 years old from the 2003-2006 National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (NHANES, n = 2978) wore a hip-worn accelerometer in the free-living environment for up to 7 days. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have successfully detected tens of thousands of robust SNP-trait associations. Earlier researches have primarily focused on association studies of genetic variants and some well-defined functions or phenotypic traits. Emerging evidence suggests that pleiotropy, the phenomenon of one genetic variant affects multiple phenotypes, is widespread, especially in complex human diseases. Therefore, individual phenotype analyses may lose statistical power to identify the underlying genetic mechanism. Contrasting with single phenotype analyses, joint analysis of multiple phenotypes exploits the correlations between phenotypes and aggregates multiple weak marginal effects and is therefore likely to provide new insights into the functional consequences …

Incident reports are used to record events or accidents that have occurred within an organization. Often times, reports are made, handed off, and given from the residence home to the Community Care Licensing with little to no information of how an incident was managed. Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are a class of linear polysaccharides that are ubiquitous in the extracellular matrix (ECM) and on cell surfaces. Due to their key role in development, homeostasis, pathogenesis, and regeneration, GAGs are increasingly used in the design of ECM-mimicking hydrogels to stimulate tissue formation and regenerative processes via specifically orchestrated cell-instructive signals. These applications first and foremost build on the ability of GAGs to effectively bind, protect, and release morphogens. Objective: To study patient and provider feedback on how a multimedia platform (EngagedMD) helps patients to understand the risks and consequences of in vitro fertilization (IVF), ovulation induction (OI), and intrauterine insemination (IUI) treatments and the impact of the informed consent process.

Design: Prospective survey study.

Setting: IVF units in the United States.

Patient(s): Six-thousand three-hundred and thirty-three patients who viewed the multimedia platform before IVF or OI-IUI treatment at 13 U.S. IVF centers and 128 providers.

The purpose of this study evaluated the impact of information governance (IG) on healthcare organizations. Objectives and limitations were derived from literature reviews, case studies, and surveys. A methodology of evaluation research with a focus on summative evaluations was conducted. The population study consisted of health information management (HIM) professionals, consultants, data analyst, and other healthcare professionals. The findings from the research provided significant evidence supporting the value IG programs possess along with the benefits healthcare organizations gained with the adoption of the IG initiative.

Head Nurse Leadership Model Can Improve The Performance of Nurses in Providing Nursing Care. The purpose of this study was to identify the correlation between the head nurse leadership model and the nurses’ performance. This study applied a cross-sectional method and involved 141 nurses at a Hospital. This study used the instruments was developed in the other studies. The results showed that the leadership model related to the performance was a servant, visionary, and transactional.
