Abstract

This project was designed to achieve an unmet criteria in the accreditation process for the outpatient pediatric rehabilitation program at a local, community hospital in the greater Bay Area. The clients range from 6 months old to 20 years old with functional disabilities. The Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) requires that applicants demonstrate outcome measure data over a 6 month time period. During the self-evaluation process this was noted to be a deficiency in the department’s efforts. The WeeFIM system was chosen as the first tool to implement in the department. It also contains chemical particles from cleaning products, wall paints, personal care products, indoor combustion, and microbial agents. The ultimate goal is to achieve “a nation free of disparities in health and health care.” Social determinants of health remain mostly responsible for health/health care disparities among population groups within and between countries. In the United States, there is little evidence that disparities associated with such determinants are decreasing, with only 10% of those associated with race/ethnicity and income having demonstrated improvement in recent years. Early deterioration in adult medical-surgical patients is associated with increased intensive care unit and hospital mortality (Goldhill, 2001). Failure to recognize deterioration is a preventable patient safety and quality issue. To address this problem, since 2013, Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KP NCAL) has piloted Advance Alert Monitor (AAM) at two hospitals. This early warning system employs a set of predictive models developed by the KP NCAL Division of Research, which automatically predicts patient deterioration within the next 12 hours based on a complex algorithm of laboratory and clinical data points. Drawing on institutional politics, we highlight the importance of understanding organizational resistance as a set of interrelated skillful acts, where the actions of resisters are not only co-constitutive with actions of agents of change but also interrelated across resisters at different levels of the organization. Objective: Quality assurance of large ontological systems such as SNOMED CT is an indispensable part of the terminology management lifecycle. We introduce a hybrid structural-lexical method for scalable and systematic discovery of missing hierarchical relations and concepts in SNOMED CT.

Material and Methods: All non-lattice subgraphs (the structural part) in SNOMED CT are exhaustively extracted using a scalable MapReduce algorithm. Four lexical patterns (the lexical part) are identified among the extracted non-lattice subgraphs. Non-lattice subgraphs exhibiting such lexical patterns are often indicative of missing hierarchical relations or concepts. Each lexical pattern is associated with a potential specific type of error. …

There remain significant barriers to the use of personal health records (PHRs), which limit potential benefits in underserved patient populations. Novel strategies must be developed to achieve the desired impact of PHRs on patient engagement and health outcomes. This paper describes the health information needs and technology preferences of adults seeking care in Community Health Centers (CHCs), which provide care to low-income, uninsured and underinsured patients. Functional connectivity patterns of the motor cortical representational area of single muscles have not been extensively mapped in humans, particularly for the axial musculature. Functional connectivity may provide a neural substrate for adaptation of muscle activity in axial muscles that have both voluntary and postural functions. The purpose of this study was to combine brain stimulation and neuroimaging to both map the cortical representation of the external oblique (EO) in primary motor cortex (M1) and supplementary motor area (SMA), and to establish the resting-state functional connectivity associated with this representation. Hearing loss is a widespread condition, it is in fact a leading cause of disability among older people. 100 low-risk obstetric patients were enrolled to evaluate the use of digital health technology in prenatal care. 50 patients were placed on an alternate prenatal care schedule (8 visits), supplemented with an integrated technology platform of a mobile application and connected devices including a wireless weight scale and blood pressure cuff. The remaining 50 control patients received routine care, without the technology platform. Patients were evaluated for satisfaction and engagement throughout pregnancy.

Background: Pneumonia is a costly and deadly respiratory disease that afflicts millions every year. Advances in pneumonia care require significant research investment and collaboration among pneumonia investigators. Despite the importance of data sharing for clinical research it remains difficult to share datasets with old and new investigators. We present CAPOCloud, a web-based pneumonia research platform intended to facilitate data sharing and make data more accessible to new investigators.
