Background Trauma resuscitation is a high-acuity, time-critical environment characterized by diagnostic uncertainty, simultaneous interventions, and complex team dynamics. Despite the widespread adoption of standardized trauma frameworks such as Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), deviations from best practice and process variability remain common. Trauma video review (TVR) has emerged as a method to objectively evaluate resuscitation performance beyond traditional documentation.

Methods A narrative literature review was conducted of English-language publications examining the use of video recording and structured video review in trauma resuscitation. Background: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in patients with Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices (CIEDs) remains a logistical challenge in many clinical settings. At Medical City Denton, the absence of a standardized institutional policy has led to significant inefficiencies, including prolonged hospital stays and increased healthcare costs. The primary objective of this project was to address these barriers by developing a streamlined, evidence-based protocol to improve care coordination and resource utilization for patients with CIEDs requiring diagnostic imaging.

BACKGROUND: In the Cardiac Step-down Unit (CSU), two failures drive suboptimal VTE prevention: (1). over-ordering of SCDs in patients unlikely to benefit and (2). < 10% documented application when SCDs are truly indicated. Baseline data indicates that curbing over-ordering alone would reduce recorded non-compliance by >50%, revealing a clear opportunity for system redesign.

METHODS: To integrate the updated “3 Bucket” Risk Model assessment into the computerized physician order entry (CPOE) in order to delineate the prophylaxis for a given patient population. Once the manual risk assessment proves to be viable in increasing compliance, we can propose having the tool adopted into the CPOE system. While a postpartum CBC may be helpful to detect anemia, it may not be necessary in a routine, uncomplicated patient and may be more of a burden and cause inconvenience without providing significant benefit. Background: Respiratory viral testing in pediatric emergency departments (EDs) is frequently performed despite limited impact on clinical management for many low-risk presentations. Unnecessary testing increases cost and operational burden may delay patient throughput and can provide false reassurance to caregivers. Additionally, pediatric emergency department nurses agreed with overburden and impact to throughput based on overuse of viral testing (qualitative nursing survey conducted on September 4, 2024 showed >98% felt testing was unnecessary). Background Burnout is a psychological syndrome that arises from chronic workplace stress that has not been effectively managed. It is characterized by emotional exhaustion, increased mental distance or cynicism toward one’s work, and a sense of reduced professional efficacy (WHO, 2019). Due to the long work hours, high workload, and extensive training demands, medical residents are particularly vulnerable to experiencing burnout, contributing to higher rates of anxiety and depression. Burnout typically emerges mid-intern year and progresses through the remainder of residency. Burnout can contribute to higher medical errors, decreased work efficiency, and poor patient-physician interactions.

Background: Timely and accurate chest tube placement in the Emergency Department (ED) is critical for the management of life-threatening conditions such as a pneumothorax. At Medical City North Hills Emergency Department, chest tube placement can be delayed or complicated due to variability in available equipment types, sizes, storage locations, and setup processes. Introduction

The Care Alert Program (CAP) is designed to help navigate encounters with patients who are high utilizers of Emergency Department (ED) resources. The CAP intends to address the needs of this challenging patient population by designing individualized care plans that are approved by a multidisciplinary committee. The patient populations that frequently use ED resources often have chronic medical conditions, a poor understanding of their conditions, unrealistic expectations regarding treatment, a lack of outpatient resources, and present with multiple complaints when using ED resources.

The use of portable computed tomography (CT) scanners has been shown to reduce risks associated with intrahospital transport and to expedite imaging in critically ill patients. While their use is established in intensive care units, their utility on intraoperative trauma patients remains underexplored. This paper reviews existing literature on portable CT use, defines appropriate clinical indications, outlines contraindications, and identifies quality metrics and implementation challenges. It also presents a proposed protocol for integrating portable head CT imaging into trauma workflows, focusing on early identification of intracranial or spinal injuries in the operating room. Geographical cohorting in hospital settings represents a significant shift from traditional patient rounding practices and aims to enhance the efficiency of health care delivery. This model assigns hospitalists to a particular inpatient unit, where most of their patients are located. While this model has several benefits, including streamlining health care procedures, optimizing resource allocation, and fostering better provider communication, its implementation is not without its challenges.

Background: Clinical brain death determination requires both technical proficiency and sensitive communication with families. However, residents often report inadequate training and confidence in performing and discussing these examinations. This study evaluated an educational intervention combining didactic training and simulation to improve residents’ competence in brain death protocols and family communication. Methods: A mixed-methods cohort study was conducted with resident physicians. Participants completed a pre-intervention questionnaire assessing baseline knowledge, experience, and confidence in brain death determination and communication. An educational session reviewed clinical criteria, examination protocols, and communication strategies.
