Background: During the emergence and rise of COVID-19, precaution directives and limitations on in-person eye examinations re-routed a significant portion of care to telemedicine and virtual modalities. While these technologies allowed for healthcare communications that otherwise could not occur during such trying times, there are major limitations to these sanctioned applications. This report will present a seemingly benign case that could have easily been re-routed from an in-person examination to a telemedicine version due to the patient’s seemingly “routine” vision complaints.

Background: Type 1 diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in childhood. Optimal school nurse and staff education is critical to creating a safe learning environment and influencing long term outcomes of students with type 1 diabetes. The purpose of this project was to develop a virtual continuing education diabetes management course for school health workers to improve their knowledge of diabetes management and evaluate the effectiveness of the learning platform.

Purpose:

Immigrant mothers check all the boxes that are significant risk factors for developing or exacerbating Postpartum Depression (PPD). These risk factors include, suffering in solitude, cultural conceptualizations, barriers to help seeking, and a lack of facilitators to help seeking. Despite this very little research has been done to find effective screening methods for this population.

The purpose of this research project is to compile the works of those before me to determine whether the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression or the PHQ 9 screening tool is the most effective for immigrant mothers.

Due to the highly specialized nature of dermatology and the lack of dermatologic training in medical school, the dermatologic team is consulted for matters that range from non-urgent to pressing. This study contributes to the body of knowledge in leader development by examining how higher education programs in a female dominated profession assist learners in developing person-related characteristics that support leader development. A ten-part online survey was sent to directors of health information management (HIM) programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management (CAHIIM). Results suggest an opportunity for improvement in the curriculum for development of person-related characteristics critical for leadership positions. In the interest of the progression of women these results should be taken into consideration.

Background/Project Intent (Aim Statement): The routine use of PCV-13 has resulted in a dramatic reduction in the incidence of pneumococcal infections among young children. However, serious pneumococcal infections caused by additional vaccine serotypes continue to occur in older children with high-risk conditions.1 As per the CDC, children with Diabetes should receive the PPSV-23 vaccine beginning at 2 years of age and at least 8 weeks after their last indicated dose of PCV-13.2 A review of division data from March 2016 to November 2018 revealed that only 2.6% of the eligible patient population with Diabetes have received the PPSV-23 vaccine. This study investigated the effects blue light from self-luminous devices has on adult sleeping patterns. We investigated sleep quality and duration qualitatively with a randomized, double-blind, cross-over, placebo-controlled design with a wash-out period. Participants wore blue light blocking lenses or placebo lenses whenever they were using a self-luminous device throughout each day for one week. Each morning, participants filled out a survey to report their number of hours slept, time to fall asleep, and amount of time spent on self-luminous devices. The lack of research on healthcare staff experience and interior design of the spaces they work in is evident. A focus on staff perspective is needed, particularly staff who navigated the COVID-19 pandemic. This research seeks to capture those stories to develop further research in order to improve staff experience. The initial phase of this mixed-methods approach is a survey. Hypothetically, by placing providers at the center of qualitative research related to healthcare interior design, we can better understand existing healthcare spaces. As concussion research shifts from diagnostic to managing return to play (RTF), many studies have sought to establish safe guidelines for recovery. Computer-based neuropsychological programs measure cognitive function performance typically affected by brain injury and include a self-report post-concussion symptoms scale. The use of the total score of a post-concussion symptoms scale as a possible predictor of protracted recovery in high school athletes following injury is still being researched.
