These products may comprise several components, including exosomes, secretomes, chitosan, polydeoxyribonucleotide, platelet-rich plasma, and hyaluronic acid. In today’s world, the use of such products is not confined to aesthetic purposes; they are also used to treat several other skin conditions. This review paper highlights the role of “skin booster" components for different skin disorders based on their in vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies.

Prior research suggests associations between indoor tanning and melanoma, basal cell carcinoma (BCC), and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), with potential variation based on age of initiation and cumulative exposure.

Grover’s disease, also known as transient acantholytic dermatosis, is an uncommon dermatologic condition characterized by pruritic papulovesicular eruptions that predominantly affect the trunk of older adults. Although the disease is often self-limited, it may significantly impair quality of life. This review summarizes treatment options and emerging therapies for Grover’s disease reported in the literature since 2019. Treating Atopic Dermatitis: Oral Jak1 Inhibitor Vs. Monoclonal Antibody, Abby Craft, Nicolle Holgate

Objective: To compare symptom management of atopic dermatitis between injectable monoclonal antibodies and an oral Janus kinase 1 (JAK1) inhibitor. Design: Literature review. Methods: Searches were done in PubMed and CINAHL using the following terms: abrocitinib, Cibinqo, dupilumab, Dupixent, and atopic dermatitis. Filters included: randomized controlled trials, clinical trials, and scholarly journal. Results: Three studies met all criteria including Bieber et al, Reich et al, and Huang et al. Conclusion: Oral JAK1 inhibitor abrocitinib has been shown to have similar efficacy in symptom management of moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis compared to monoclonal antibody dupilumab and should be considered when prescribing treatment.

[Introduction] To the Editor: Psoriasis, an immune-mediated chronic inflammatory skin disorder, has been implicated in cognitive impairment and dementia.1, 2, 3 Emerging evidence suggests that systemic inflammation contributes to neuroinflammation and resultant cytokine-driven neurodegeneration, although findings remain inconclusive.1, 2, 3 While systemic therapies such as biologics and conventional disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs are routinely used in psoriasis management, their role in modulating dementia in this population remains underexplored, with research yielding mixed results.1, 2, 3 We conducted a large-scale, retrospective cohort study to investigate the relationship between psoriasis and dementia and whether systemic treatments for psoriasis impact this association.

Limited evidence exists regarding the long-term oncologic safety of biologic therapies, particularly interleukin (IL)-17 inhibitors (IL-17i) and IL-23i, in the management of psoriasis. This propensity-score-matched retrospective-cohort study assessed the risk of developing a primary malignancy within 10-years following exposure to an FDA-approved biologic among psoriasis patients compared to biologic-naïve controls. After propensity-score-matching, 32,230 biologic-exposed patients were further grouped into cohorts of tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi, n=16,011), IL-23i (n=5,604), IL-12/23i (n=3,856), and IL-17i (n=5,467). During a 10-year period, TNFi-treated patients had a reduced risk of developing any primary malignancy compared to biologic-naïve psoriasis patients [HR 0.80(0.73-0.87)]. Porokeratosis was first described in 1893. It is a relatively rare disorder with over 9 subtypes. Lesions are clinically characterized as well-demarcated, erythematous papules (raised, <1 cm) or plaques (raised, >1 cm), with an atrophic center, and raised scaly border. Porokeratosis is an important diagnosis to identify because it may undergo malignant transformation and mimics many commonly encountered diagnoses. These commonly mimicked diagnoses include squamous cell carcinoma, tinea corporis, nummular dermatitis, and psoriasis vulgaris, to name a few. The clinical images in this review focus on identifying porokeratosis along the full spectrum of skin tones.

Background: Common cutaneous warts, referred to in medicine as verrucae vulgaris, are proliferative lesions caused by human papillomavirus. These lesions are mostly benign and usually resolve without incident, except in the case of the patient mentioned in this report. Our patient developed a solitary keratoacanthoma, currently accepted as a clinical variant of squamous cell carcinoma, as a result of several risk factors and traumatic exposure. The current literature does not have an established association of HPV with solitary keratoacanthomas. This case report explores the presentation and pathogenesis of solitary keratoacanthomas within the setting of HPV.

Bleomycin and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) are widely used in various dermatological disorders. Both drugs are well-recognized as antineoplastic drugs and exert their effect by blocking the cell cycle. Topical and intralesional formulations are available and have been studied in both non-neoplastic and cancerous lesions. However, data comparing the effect of bleomycin and 5-FU in the dermatological disorders are limited. This project examines how engineers are creating artificial intelligence systems to help with dermatology diagnosis. Researchers believe that these systems can help close the health care gap in lower income and Black and brown communities, but dermatologists of color worry that these systems are not being trained to recognize skin conditions on patients of color.

Chromoblastomycosis is a neglected tropical disease typically found in endemic tropical and subtropical regions. Herein, we discuss a rare case of a 55-year-old man in Texas who presented with an exophytic papule on the forearm, diagnosed to have chromoblastomycosis by shave biopsy and subsequent histopathological analysis. Treatment options for chromoblastomycosis include long-term oral antifungal therapy with itraconazole, physical modalities such as heat therapy in conjunction with oral antifungals, and surgical interventions such as cryosurgery or surgical excision.

INTRODUCTION: Reddit, a popular social media website, has numerous forums where users may discuss healthcare-related topics and request diagnostic and treatment advice for dermatologic conditions. We sought to analyze and grade user-submitted requests for dermatologic advice and their top responses on Reddit.

METHODS: User-submitted posts requesting diagnostic advice and their respective responses on two popular Reddit forums, SkinCareAddiction (ScA) and DermatologyQuestions (DQ), were reviewed by three board-certified dermatologists using a grading rubric designed for this study.

A spectrum of cutaneous reactions to SARs-CoV-2 (COVID-19) vaccines have been reported in the literature. We present a case of a pityriasis rosea-like rash occurring after Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination and review cases of pityriasis rosea (PR)/PR-like eruption (PR-LE) after mRNA COVID-19 vaccine published in the medical literature. Of the 30 cases found, none experienced severe adverse effects and the rash resolved in an average of 5.6 weeks. It is important for physicians to be aware of this self-limited reaction so they can reassure and appropriately counsel patients that it is safe to receive subsequent vaccine doses despite the cutaneous eruption. …

Hospitalists and emergency physicians continue to struggle with the assessment of dermatologic conditions, often consulting dermatology whenever a patient has a “rash” or skin concern. Dermatology is still not emphasized in medical education and often is taught to most medical students in an abbreviated fashion, which results in physicians feeling ill-equipped to deal with any dermatologic condition—either mundane or potentially life-threatening.
