Background: Murine typhus, caused by Rickettsia typhi, is a flea-borne illness historically endemic to the southeastern United States, with initial cases reported in Atlanta, Georgia in 1913. Following vector control efforts, incidence declined significantly, and the disease was removed from the nationally notifiable disease list in 1987. While recent cases have been reported in select regions, murine typhus has not been documented in Georgia for decades. We present a pediatric case in Atlanta that may represent the first reported instance in nearly 40 years, suggesting possible reemergence in the Southeast.

Introduction. COVID-19 pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2 leads to extensive pulmonary infiltrates. The Radiographic Assessment of Lung Edema (RALE) score is a quantitative radiological tool to evaluate the severity of lung lesions. Meanwhile, elevated D-dimer levels reflect coagulation and fibrinolysis activation. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between the initial RALE score on chest radiography and D-dimer levels upon hospital admission.

BACKGROUND: Sickle cell disease (SCD) encompasses a spectrum of genetic hematologic disorders characterized by erythrocyte sickling. Patients may experience musculoskeletal manifestations, such as osteonecrosis, which may warrant consideration for total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA). While prior literature suggests patients with SCD more frequently suffer complications after orthopaedic procedures, this is not well characterized for TSA.

METHODS: Adult TSA patients (older than 18 years) were identified in the 2010 to 2023 PearlDiver M170 database. Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) can be treated surgically to excise recurrent and recalcitrant regions of disease activity. However, surgical outcomes are highly variable depending on closure method, concomitant medical management and area of excision. In this study, we aim to characterise the healing courses from HS excision in a case series. To reduce operator variability, we opted to conduct a case series from a single surgeon. Surgeries conducted from June 2024-December 2025 by surgeon S.T. were included, and the postoperative course was followed until February 2026. As part of both a personal endeavor and an academic project, I have investigated the aetiology and treatment of seemingly idiopathic and debilitating leg pain in a patient over the past 10 years. Via collaboration with medical professionals at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Cincinnati Premier Physical Therapy, and Cincinnati Women’s TriHealth, I have identified sources of pain at the anatomical level. Background Antiplatelet therapy is widely prescribed for the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease and for mitigation of thromboembolic risk. However, its impact on post-operative periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) following total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) remains poorly defined.MethodsA retrospective cohort study was conducted using the TriNetX US Research Network. Propensity score matching was performed to balance demographics, body mass index, and Charlson Comorbidity Index variables. BACKGROUND: High-volume endurance training may shift exercise from cardioprotective to arrhythmogenic, increasing the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) in healthy athletes.

CASE SUMMARY: A 38-year-old marathon runner with a 15-year history of high-intensity endurance training presented with episodic palpitations and reduced athletic performance. Electrocardiogram showed paroxysmal AF; echocardiography revealed mild left atrial enlargement without structural heart disease. Symptoms worsened during the recovery phase after runs, suggesting vagally mediated AF. After unsuccessful flecainide therapy, he underwent pulmonary vein isolation. Twelve months later, he remained free of recurrent AF on Holter monitoring and successfully resumed endurance training following an 8-week recovery period. …

Background: Acute hyperammonemia presents as a toxic state with the clinical presentation as altered consciousness, seizures, and coma. Hyperammonemia disrupts astrocytes osmotic balance via glutamine accumulation, triggering brain edema, inflammation, and apoptosis whom mechanism is closely parallel to hypoxic ischemic injury. This overlap necessitates differentiating metabolic causes from hypoxic etiologies, as timely ammonia clearance therapies can prevent catastrophic outcomes. Background: This review examines the impact of prostate cancer symptoms, progression, and treatments on patients’ gait and mobility. Prostate cancer is the leading cancer diagnosis for men in the United States, with an increase in incidents in the last decade. Prostate cancer, its progression, and its various symptoms and treatments have both physical and functional consequences that often cause changes in patients’ mobility and gait. Some studies have found gait to be a predictor of functional decline and mortality. Introduction/Background: Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) is a multisystem disease that can lead to multiorgan failure by disseminated mechanical destruction, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, and thrombocytopenia. Most TTP cases are classified as acquired or hereditary; however, sporadic immune TTP with a refractory episode during the same hospital admission is not well documented in the literature. Furthermore, seizure-like activity during plasma exchange is not a common adverse effect.
