Proteomic Profiling Of Serum Derived Exosomes From Prostate Cancer Patients, David Turay
Proteomic Profiling Of Serum Derived Exosomes From Prostate Cancer Patients, David Turay
David Turay, MD
Touted among the major achievements in the diagnosis and management of Prostate cancer (PCa) in the past few decades has been, the dramatic decline of men with advanced/metastatic PCa at diagnosis coupled with a significant improvement ( >90%) in the five and ten year survival rates of the disease. Non-palpable PCa (potentially clinically treatable disease) now accounts for 70-80% of all newly diagnosed cases of PCa. Preceding these changes by about a decade was the introduction of Prostatic Specific Antigen (PSA) into clinical practice; first as biomarker for monitoring response to therapy and subsequently as a complementary screening tool. It …
Changes In The Testes Following Spinal Cord Injury And The Attenuating Effects Of Licofelone, Ryan Fortune
Changes In The Testes Following Spinal Cord Injury And The Attenuating Effects Of Licofelone, Ryan Fortune
Dissertations & Theses (Open Access)
Spinal cord injury is a devastating disease that researchers have had very limited success in treating. In addition to interrupted innervation, spinal cord injury causes pathologic changes in a multitude of organ systems. Male infertility is one such complication that is particularly devastating because the patient population is predominantly young men. Our lab has previously shown that the blood testis barrier breaks down after spinal cord injury. This dissertation shows the local metabolomic and mRNA changes that spinal cord injury causes within the testes using a Sprague Dawley rat model, including the elevation in eicosanoids, increased oxidative stress, chronically elevated …
Characterization Of Human Prostate Cancer Using Sodium Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Nolan Christopher Broeke
Characterization Of Human Prostate Cancer Using Sodium Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Nolan Christopher Broeke
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Overtreatment of prostate cancer is a significant problem in the health care of men. Development of non-invasive imaging tools for improved characterization of prostate lesions has the potential to reduce overtreatment. In this thesis work, we will evaluate the ability of tissue sodium concentration obtained from sodium magnetic resonance imaging (sodium-MRI) to characterize in vivo prostate lesions. Imaging data, including multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) and sodium-MRI, were obtained from a cohort of men with biopsy-proven prostate cancer and compared to digitized whole-mount histopathology after prostatectomy. Histopathology was independently graded for Gleason score to be used as the ground truth …
Elucidation Of The Functions Of Neuropilin 2 In Osteoclasts In Promoting Prostate Cancer Bone Metastasis., Navatha S. Polavaram
Elucidation Of The Functions Of Neuropilin 2 In Osteoclasts In Promoting Prostate Cancer Bone Metastasis., Navatha S. Polavaram
Theses & Dissertations
Bone metastasis is one of the major clinical concerns that causes skeletal related malignancies and increased mortality. Bone is one of the preferred sites for metastatic prostate cancer. The metastatic prostate cancer cells interact with bone cells (osteoblasts and osteoclasts) resulting in an imbalance in the bone homeostasis leading to increased activation of osteoblasts over osteoclasts. Our preliminary data indicated a non-tyrosine kinase receptor Neuropilin 2 (NRP2) is expressed in osteoclasts induced by metastatic prostate cancer cells and acts as a negative regulator of osteoclast differentiation and function. We hypothesize that prostate cancer -induced NRP2 expression in osteoclasts is necessary …
Outcomes Of Genetic Testing In A Genitourinary Genetics Clinic, Annelise Pace
Outcomes Of Genetic Testing In A Genitourinary Genetics Clinic, Annelise Pace
Dissertations & Theses (Open Access)
Several known hereditary cancer syndromes confer an increased risk for genitourinary (GU)related malignancies. Various guidelines indicate when to refer patients to genetic counseling for GU-related hereditary cancer syndromes but there is limited research on the clinical picture of these patients, including their cancerous and non-cancerous features, the genetic testing strategy for this population, and the probability of having a positive germline mutation if testing is performed. The purpose of this study is to determine the most common indications for ordering genetic testing in a GU Genetics Clinic and evaluate whether there is a relationship between the indication for genetic testing …
Microrna 1207-3p In Prostate Cancer, Dibash Das
Microrna 1207-3p In Prostate Cancer, Dibash Das
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most commonly diagnosed male cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death for men in the United States. Understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in progression from the asymptomatic androgen-dependent PCa to the lethal castration resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) is a major challenge. MicroRNAs (miRNAs), are known to be dysregulated in PCa. MicroRNA-1207-3p (miR-1207-3p) is encoded by the non-protein coding gene locus PVT1 on the 8q24 human chromosomal region, an established PCa susceptibility locus. However, the role of miR-1207-3p in PCa is unclear. We have discovered that miR-1207-3p is significantly underexpressed in PCa cell lines …
Cellular And Molecular Basis Of Equine Arteritis Virus Persistent Infection In The Stallion Reproductive Tract: Characterization Of Local Host-Pathogen Interactions Mediating Long-Term Viral Persistence, Mariano Carossino
Theses and Dissertations--Veterinary Science
Equine arteritis virus (EAV) has a global impact on the equine industry being the causative agent of equine viral arteritis (EVA), a reproductive, respiratory, and systemic disease of equids. A distinctive feature of EAV infection is that it establishes long-term persistent infection in the reproductive tract of stallions and is continuously shed in the semen (carrier state). Recent studies showed that long-term persistence is associated with a specific allele of the CXCL16 gene (CXCL16S). However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the establishment and maintenance of persistent infection are yet to be determined. The studies were undertaken herein …

Time On Androgen Deprivation Therapy And Adaptations To Exercise: Secondary Analysis From A 12-Month Randomized Controlled Trial In Men With Prostate Cancer, Dennis R. Taaffe, Laurien M. Buffart, Robert U. Newton, Nigel Spry, James Denham, David Joseph, David Lamb, Suzanne K. Chambers, Daniel A. Galvao
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
Objectives
To explore if duration of previous exposure to androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) in men with prostate cancer (PCa) undertaking a year-long exercise programme moderates the exercise response with regard to body composition and muscle performance, and also to explore the moderator effects of baseline testosterone, time since ADT, and baseline value of the outcome.
Patients and Methods
In a multicentre randomized controlled trial, 100 men who had previously undergone either 6 months (short-term) or 18 months (long-term) of ADT in combination with radiotherapy, as part of the TROG 03.04 RADAR trial, were randomized to 6 months supervised exercise, followed …
Prostate Cancer Screening Guidelines: Providing Patient Education, Michael Burton
Prostate Cancer Screening Guidelines: Providing Patient Education, Michael Burton
Family Medicine Clerkship Student Projects
The United States Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) is planning to update their prostate cancer PSA screening guidelines to a category C from category D grade. This could potentially lead to confusion among both providers and patients as they have become accustomed to the previous guidelines and there has always been much discussion among providers about whether to offer the test. This project seeks to provide information to patients about the upcoming change so that they are more informed and able to better participate in discussion with their doctor about the pros and cons of PSA testing.
