Immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) is a commonly used treatment modality for cancer with a growing list of oncologic indications. Ototoxicity is a potential immune-related adverse event of ICB treatment, but the risk of hearing loss after ICB remains unknown. This retrospective chart review sought to identify individuals who received ICB and had available audiometric data before and after treatment in order to identify clinically meaningful changes in hearing. This single center, institutional chart review examined hearing function data in patients who underwent audiometry before and after ICB treatment. BACKGROUND: Hyams grading is considered prognostic in olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB), but grading criteria are subjective and predate modern classification and surgical approach. We evaluate the application of granular grading criteria to an endoscopic surgery predominant cohort with extended follow-up.

METHODS: 78 ONB patients were identified (1994-2019) with original diagnoses dating to 1979. Original Hyams grade, Modified Hyams grade incorporating more detailed criteria and other histologic features (i.e. divergent differentiation, clear cell/oncocytic change, and spindling) were assessed if feasible, evaluated for distribution by grade and correlated with outcomes.

Background: Patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) exhibit smaller regional brain volumes in commonly reported regions including the amygdala and hippocampus, regions associated with fear and memory processing. In the current study, we have conducted a voxel-based morphometry (VBM) meta-analysis using whole-brain statistical maps with neuroimaging data from the ENIGMA-PGC PTSD working group.

Methods: T1-weighted structural neuroimaging scans from 36 cohorts (PTSD n = 1309; controls n = 2198) were processed using a standardized VBM pipeline (ENIGMA-VBM tool). BACKGROUND: Podoplanin (PDPN) has emerged as a functionally relevant biomarker and chemotherapeutic target expressed by OSCC cells. PDPN signaling can directly increase tumor cell invasion and metastasis, and also inhibit host lymphocyte activation and immune response. Accordingly, antibodies and Maackia amurensis seed lectin (MASL) can target the PDPN receptor to inhibit OSCC cell migration and viability. PURPOSE: This exploratory analysis aimed to identify predictive factors of final best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in patients with Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) harboring the m.11778G>A mutation who received lenadogene nolparvovec gene therapy.

METHODS: The following covariates were individually evaluated as possible factors associated with improved final BCVA: age, gender, timing of treatment, baseline BCVA value, and baseline optical coherence tomography (OCT) parameters. BACKGROUND: Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is considered as a transient acute heart failure syndrome predominant in females. However, data on Chinese TTS patients are limited. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics of Chinese TTS patients, identify prognostic markers.

METHODS: A total of 258 TTS patients were enrolled. Data on clinical characteristics and in-hospital major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) were collected and analyzed. The latter included severe heart failure, shock, malignant arrhythmia, and death.

RESULTS: The average age of TTS patients was 59.3 ± 19.2 years. Female patients accounted for 68.9%. MACE occurred in 41.4% of patients during hospitalization. …

To report the use of topical losartan as a potential treatment of acute bilateral central corneal stromal haze in a patient presenting with a syndrome resembling central toxic keratopathy (CTK).Patient and Clinical Findings:A 51-year-old man presented with clinically significant central corneal stromal haze bilaterally 6 days after a periorbital and facial contact dermatitis secondary to pesticide exposure. Background: Advances in care have led to improvements in survival for adolescents and young adults (AYAs) diagnosed with cancer; however, the risk of early death remains high for certain cancers, particularly acute leukemias. Importance: Widespread childhood vaccination has eliminated many infectious diseases in the US. However, vaccination rates are declining, and there are ongoing policy debates to reduce the childhood vaccine schedule, which may risk reemergence of previously eliminated infectious diseases.

Objective: To estimate the number of cases and complications in the US under scenarios of declining childhood vaccination for measles, rubella, poliomyelitis, and diphtheria.

Some evidence suggests that female patients are at greater risk of chronic postoperative pain and hernia recurrence. We investigated rates of chronic inguinal pain and recurrence after inguinal hernia repair in both male and female patients using the Abdominal Core Health Quality Collaborative database.

BACKGROUND: Poorly healing wounds represent the primary health-related burden for hereditary recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) patients. Contribution of wound-associated soluble constituents to wound progression remains not well defined.

OBJECTIVE: To conduct cross-sectional analysis of cytokine, chemokine, and growth factor in exudates from RDEB wounds and define changes associated with wound progression.

PURPOSE: To estimate metastasis of patients with uveal melanoma (UM) based on tumor size categories classified by ultrasonographic thickness as small (0.0-3.0 mm), medium (3.1-8.0 mm), or large (≥8.1 mm) using both non-conditional and conditional analyses.

DESIGN: Retrospective analysis.

METHODS: A retrospective study of 8034 cases over 35-years at a single ocular oncology referral center evaluated the primary endpoint of cumulative incidence of metastasis at 5-, 10-, 15-, 20-, 25- and 30-years using non-conditional and conditional analysis at 3-years, 5-years, and 10-years of metastasis-free survival.

In myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with TP53 aberrations, dissecting the interaction amongst patient, disease and treatment factors are important for therapeutic decisions and prognostication. This retrospective analysis included patients with newly diagnosed MDS (>5% blasts) and AML with TP53 mutation(s) treated at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Mucopolysaccharidosis type IVA (MPS IVA, Morquio A syndrome) is a rare inherited disorder characterized by skeletal dysplasia due to deficient N-acetylgalactosamine-6-sulfate sulfatase activity, resulting in glycosaminoglycan (GAG) accumulation. Identifying accurate biomarkers reflecting clinical severity and therapeutic response remains challenging. This study evaluated potential surrogate biomarkers, including N-terminal pro-C-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proCNP), collagen types I and II, mono-sulfated keratan sulfate (KS), di-sulfated KS, and chondroitin-6-sulfate (C6S), in blood and urine samples from 60 patients ranging from 1 to 62 years of age. Sickle cell disease (SCD) affects millions of individuals worldwide, and is characterized by both acute, episodic pain and chronic, persistent pain. Despite the significant burden of the disease, clinicians continue to face significant challenges in treating SCD pain due to variability in pain experiences. Background: First trimester prediction of fetal growth restriction (FGR) remain suboptimal. We aimed to search for new circulating angiogenic biomarkers for improvement.

Methods: This case-control study compared 73 singleton pregnancies with early or late-onset FGR based on Delphi consensus and 73 matched normal controls. Their maternal serum samples stored during 11-13 weeks were retrieved for measurement of 36 angiogenic biomarkers by MILLIPLEX® human angiogenesis magnetic bead panels. Those biomarkers that showed significant differences between the study groups were further analysed with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.

Background: Larotrectinib is the first-in-class, highly selective TRK inhibitor with demonstrated efficacy in various TRK fusion solid tumours. We report the efficacy and safety of larotrectinib in patients with TRK fusion gastrointestinal (GI) cancer.

Methods: Patients with TRK fusion GI cancer from NAVIGATE (NCT02576431) were included. Response was independent review committee (IRC)-assessed per RECIST v1.1.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the validity of the Veterans Affairs Low Vision Visual Functioning Questionnaire (VALVVFQ-48) functional vision scores (FVS) in patients with USH2A-associated retinal degeneration. Aims/hypothesis: Growing evidence suggests that timing may be an important aspect of physical activity that influences cardiometabolic health. However, the current literature is inconclusive regarding the time of day that physical activity offers the greatest metabolic advantages. We investigated associations between hourly physical activity levels and diabetes mellitus and glycaemic biomarkers in a cross-sectional and nationally representative sample of US adults.
