Background: Agapanthus (Lily of the Nile) is a genus in the flowering plant family Amaryllidaceae. Contact dermatitis caused by flowering plants is common, but there are no reports of contact dermatitis caused by this plant, Agapanthus.

Case Illustration: An 82-year-old Japanese man had cultivated Agapanthus in his home garden. After breaking the stem of the leaf while wearing shorts, he noticed erythematous rashes on the thighs. The patch test of the leaf stem sap “as is” showed mildly positive, with erythematous papules.

Poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA) is a biopolymer and biodegradable injection material that functions as a collagen stimulator. This active ingredient works by stimulating the formation of skin collagen after interacting with the PLLA crystal component. The expected final result is an increase in the skin volume with the thickening and increased density of the skin layers due to collagen remodeling. Background: Pemphigoid gestationis (PG) is an uncommon autoimmune vesiculobullous skin disorder associated with pregnancy, that occurs during mid-to-late pregnancy and immediate postpartum period. The diagnosis of PG is based on histopathology and direct immunofluorescence. Dermoscopy is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that provides a connection between macroscopic clinical dermatology and microscopic dermatopathology.

Case Illustration: We reported a case of a 22-year-old primigravida woman with postpartum PG. This PG case was diagnosed clinically, dermoscopically, and histopathologically.

There is a known genetic susceptibility to anthracycline-induced cardiac dysfunction in childhood cancer survivors, but this has not been adequately shown in adolescent and young adult (AYA) patients. Our aim was to determine if the previously identified variants associated with cardiac dysfunction in childhood cancer patients affect AYA cancer patients similarly. Forty-five variants were selected for analysis in 253 AYAs previously treated with anthracyclines. We identified four variants that were associated with cardiac dysfunction: SLC10A2:rs7319981 (p = 0.017), SLC22A17:rs4982753 (p = 0.019), HAS3:rs2232228 (p = 0.023), and RARG:rs2229774 (p = 0.050). The rapidly aging population is consuming more alcohol, leading to increased alcohol-associated acute pancreatitis (AAP) with high mortality. However, the mechanisms remain undefined, and currently there are no effective therapies available. This study aims to elucidate aging- and alcohol-associated spatial transcriptomic signature by establishing an aging AAP mouse model and applying Visium spatial transcriptomics for understanding of the mechanisms in the context of the pancreatic tissue. Background: Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a devastating complication of cirrhosis that increases mortality. Many patients do not receive guideline recommended HE treatment.

Our aim is to evaluate trends in HE treatment over time, variables associated with receiving treatment, and outcomes based on the type of treatment received.

Methods: Retrospective single-center cohort study of hospitalized patients with HE from July 2012 – June 2022. HE treatment was defined as receiving lactulose, rifaximin, or combination therapy.

Variations in the biomechanical stiffness of brain tumors can not only influence the difficulty of surgical resection but also impact postoperative outcomes. In a prospective, single-blinded study, we utilize pre-operative magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) to predict the stiffness of intracranial tumors intraoperatively and assess the impact of increased tumor stiffness on clinical outcomes following microsurgical resection of vestibular schwannomas (VS) and meningiomas. MRE measurements significantly correlated with intraoperative tumor stiffness and baseline hearing status of VS patients. Primary cranial neurolymphomatosis (PCNL) is a rare subtype of primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) in which infiltrative lymphomatous involvement is confined to cranial nerves. Here, we report a case of PCNL with successful genomic profiling. A 57-year-old male had a lengthy prediagnostic phase spanning approximately 30 months, characterized by multiple episodes of cranial neuropathies managed by steroids. At the time of diagnosis, the patient had right-sided cranial neuropathies involving cranial nerves (CN) V, VI, and VII. Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and financial hardship are associated with increased likelihood of heavier alcohol use and health challenges in adulthood among persons living with HIV (PWH). We examined whether retrospectively captured lifetime drinking trajectories are a pathway through which childhood hardships affect current health in a sample of 365 adult PWH. Childhood economic hardship and ACEs were used as main predictors. Measures of alcohol use included age at first drink and lifetime drinking trajectories. Tissue clearing is an essential prerequisite for 3D volumetric imaging of larger tissues or organs. Here, we present a detailed protocol for optical, aqueous-based clearing of adult murine tissues using EZ Clear. We describe steps to ensure successful perfusion and fixation of organs from the adult mouse and supply guidelines for optimal lipid removal, refractive index matching, and tissue clearing. Finally, we provide imaging parameters for visualizing both exogenous perfused fluorescent dyes and endogenous fluorescence reporters in the adult mouse. The proposed glucosylamine oxidation pathway (GOP) is a two-step, intraerythrocyte, thermodynamically favorable nonenzymatic reaction that first binds glucose to the N-terminal valine of beta globin (βVal1) to form a closed-chain glucosylamine that can spontaneously reduce oxidized vitamin C to its antioxidant form. This review summarizes analytical, biochemical and clinical research supporting the existence of the GOP and the surprising hypothesis that βVal1 glucosylamine is a reducing agent that works cooperatively with reduced glutathione to dynamically regulate vitamin C recycling during naturally occurring periods of transiently or chronically elevated blood glucose and oxidant production. BACKGROUND: p53, the most frequently mutated gene in cancer, lacks effective targeted drugs.

METHODS: We developed monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) that target a p53 hotspot mutation E285K without cross-reactivity with wild-type p53. They were delivered using lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) that encapsulate DNA plasmids. Western blot, BLI, flow cytometry, single-cell sequencing (scRNA-seq), and other methods were employed to assess the function of mAbs in vitro and in vivo.

Mucoceles can often present as a complication after prior sinus surgery or maxillofacial trauma when mucosal drainage is obstructed. Their presence in the orbit following orbital wall fracture and subsequent repair represent an exceedingly rare complication whose occurrence is limited to a few reported cases in the literature. In these patients, continuous cyst expansion and subsequent mass effect may lead to ophthalmic symptoms, including orbital pain, proptosis, diplopia, and globe dystopia. BACKGROUND: HPV is responsible for most cervical, oropharyngeal, anal, vaginal, and vulvar cancers. The HPV vaccine has decreased cervical cancer incidence, but only 49% of Texas adolescents have initiated the vaccine. Texas shows great variation in HPV vaccination rates. We used geospatial analysis to identify areas with high and low vaccination rates and explored differences in neighborhood characteristics.

This case report is the second known publication of a very specific collision tumor, where small cell lung cancer metastasized to an adrenal adenoma. The focus is primarily on multimodal radiologic findings of the developing neoplasm, including CT, MRI, and FDG PET/CT. These findings are compared with established diagnostic criteria for adrenal adenomas and metastases, as identified by the literature and content expert review. Epidemiological data regarding collision tumors is discussed, as well as proposed treatment strategies. Similar topics are elucidated for small cell lung carcinoma. Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) has a global prevalence of about 5% and its first presentation can be acute and fatal. USPSTF recommends one time screening for men aged 65 to 75 years who have ever smoked. Introduction:

Acute esophageal necrosis (AEN), is a rare disorder with an estimated incidence of 0.01-0.28%. It typically affects the distal third of the esophagus. Approximately 90% of patients with acute esophageal necrosis present with upper gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding, primarily due to ischemic insult or severe hemodynamic compromise. In this report, we describe a case in which the patient presented with odynophagia and dysphagia, but without upper GI bleeding. The patient exhibited pan mucosal involvement of the esophagus, which extended to the gastric antrum.

BACKGROUND: Achalasia can cause disabling symptoms that may substantially impair the quality of life. Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) has shown promising results in the management of achalasia. In this meta-analysis we have evaluated the feasibility and safety of single-session POEM with fundoplication (POEM+F) in patients with achalasia.

METHODS: We reviewed several databases from inception to July 08, 2022, to identify studies evaluating the feasibility and/or safety of single-session POEM+F for patients with achalasia.
