Problem: Lymphedema is a chronic condition that develops secondary to cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, and surgical removal of affected lymph nodes. This swelling in patient’s limbs can cause discomfort and limit mobility, however lymphedema is often not detected until later stages, delaying treatment and patient education.

Context: This quality improvement project was conducted at Hospital S Women’s Cancer Center, an outpatient center specializing in advanced treatments for breast and gynecological cancers. This center has a multidisciplinary team focusing on both the medical and surgical aspects of oncology treatment.

Screening for health-related social needs (HRSNs) is recommended as part of routine diabetes care given the impact of social factors on health outcomes.

Youth presenting to a tertiary diabetes center will have different diabetes-related health outcomes based on positive or negative HRSNs screenings at routine clinic visits.

Baseline data were collected from patients whose parent/guardian completed a HRSN screen as part of their child’s diabetes clinic intake from 9/1/21 to 8/30/22. The screen is a 6-item questionnaire adapted from the Accountable Health Communities HRSNs Screening Tool to screen for HRSNs in 4 domains (housing, utilities, transportation, and food). Early implementation of palliative care in pediatric oncology is well established but its role in pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) patients is yet to be fully determined. Multiple organizations encourage palliative care involvement in HSCT patients. Our aim was to increase palliative care team consults for patients receiving HSCT for our targeted diagnosis. Though we did not achieve this aim, we were able to increase the palliative care team's involvement in the total cohort of patients undergoing HSCT.

While the cure rates for pediatric ALL have improved over the decades, infants with ALL (iALL) have not benefitted from these advances and continue to have a devastating prognosis. Unfortunately progress in treatment has also been slowed by inadequate research models. With this project, we address this unmet need by investigating a novel model to understand the cellular and molecular changes that occur during iALL onset and progression.

Meningiomas are the most common primary intracranial tumors and can be associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Radiologists, neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, and radiation oncologists rely on brain MRI for diagnosis, treatment planning, and longitudinal treatment monitoring. However, automated, objective, and quantitative tools for non-invasive assessment of meningiomas on multi-sequence MR images are not available. Here we present the BraTS Pre-operative Meningioma Dataset, as the largest multi-institutional expert annotated multilabel meningioma multi-sequence MR image dataset to date. BACKGROUND: Herein, we report results from a genome-wide study conducted to identify protein quantitative trait loci (pQTL) for circulating angiogenic and inflammatory protein markers in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). The study was conducted using genotype, protein marker, and baseline clinical and demographic data from CALGB/SWOG 80405 (Alliance), a randomized phase III study designed to assess outcomes of adding VEGF or EGFR inhibitors to systemic chemotherapy in mCRC patients. The lack of comprehensive diagnostics and consensus analytical models for evaluating the status of a patient's immune system has hindered a wider adoption of immunoprofiling for treatment monitoring and response prediction in cancer patients. To address this unmet need, we developed an immunoprofiling platform that uses multiparameter flow cytometry to characterize immune cell heterogeneity in the peripheral blood of healthy donors and patients with advanced cancers. Using unsupervised clustering, we identified five immunotypes with unique distributions of different cell types and gene expression profiles. BACKGROUND: The immune microenvironment impacts tumor growth, invasion, metastasis, and patient survival and may provide opportunities for therapeutic intervention in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Although never studied as a potential modulator of the immune response in most cancers, Keratin 17 (K17), a biomarker of the most aggressive (basal) molecular subtype of PDAC, is intimately involved in the histogenesis of the immune response in psoriasis, basal cell carcinoma, and cervical squamous cell carcinoma. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between perceived emotional intelligence and the reported use of cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression. We also investigated the possible effects of age on the aforementioned variables. The total sample consisted of 379 people (158 men, 220 women, 1 unreported). Across participants, 273 were young (20-39 years old) and 106 were middle-aged (40-65 years old). Background: The inflammatory reaction of foreign body granulomas (FBG) may be so vast that it leads to severe systemic effects. Case Report: A 42-year-old woman was referred to the ED with severe recurrent symptomatic hypercalcemia associated with worsening kidney function. She had presented multiple times with similar complaints. Severe hypercalcemia (13.8 mg/dL) was noted, with appropriately low PTH, elevated PTHrP, low 25-hydroxyvitamin D, and normal 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D levels. She admitted having significant subcutaneous silicone filler injections in the hips six years prior. A 62-year-old woman who had undergone mitral valve replacement 24 years ago was admitted to the hospital with congestive heart failure. She needed heart transplantation for stage D heart failure. Preoperative cardiac computed tomographic scans showed a severely calcified left atrium and a large right atrium. The prognosis of sepsis caused by Clostridium perfringens is extremely poor, with a mortality rate of 70%-100%. Management includes antibiotic regimens specific to toxin production as well as source control via surgical or interventional mechanisms. We report a case of a 64-year-old male who presented with right upper quadrant (RUQ) abdominal pain and was diagnosed with Clostridium perfringens bacteremia with associated acalculous cholecystitis, hepatic abscess, and acute renal failure requiring hemodialysis. It is felt that early hemodialysis was an associated factor in the patient's survival.

It has been shown to be efficacious in patients with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis and/or those who have failed intravenous steroids. Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a prevalent and devastating neurodegenerative disorder that causes progressively worsening motor symptoms affecting locomotor and oropharyngeal function. There is limited research in animal models on swallowing dysfunction in PD. To examine how neurodegeneration in PD produces progressive impairment in the oropharyngeal and locomotor processes, rotenone, a type II mitochondrial inhibitor, was injected into Lewis rat models to reproduce a parkinsonian phenotype. The prevalence of pediatric chronic musculoskeletal pain ranges from 8.5% to 40%.¹ This literature review examined the treatment of amplified musculoskeletal pain syndrome (AMPS), which is a general term that represents a spectrum of pain disorders for patients who may not satisfy specific diagnostic criteria.² Specifically, sources were analyzed to compare the efficacy of individual components in the nonpharmacological, interdisciplinary treatment of AMPS against pain medications.
