Background: ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is exceptionally rare in young adults, accounting for less than 1% of acute coronary syndromes in individuals younger than 35 years. When it occurs in early adulthood, particularly among women, it introduces diagnostic uncertainty and exposes gaps in post-discharge continuity of care. This case of a 20-year-old female with STEMI highlights the role of primary care in preserving evidence-based therapy while addressing psychosocial determinants of recovery.

Background Prior studies of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarctions (STEMI) presentations have shown that longer door-to-balloon (D2B) times are associated with increased mortality. Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) within 90-minutes is standard. It appears that STEMI patients without prehospital notifications have longer ischemic times. Prehospital activation of cathlab involves EKG transmission that the Emergency Physician interprets before activating cathlab, which has the potential to cause delays. We propose that prehospital notification and prehospital having the ability to activate cathlab could decrease D2B times.

Introduction: Titin (TTN) mutations are a well-known cause of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), occurring in approximately 25% of familial cases of idiopathic DCM and 18% of sporadic cases. Recognition and referral for genetic testing remains underutilized but has important prognostication and helps the patient better understand the disease transmission. This case report stresses the importance of a complete evaluation for genetic causes of DCM.

Background: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) account for nearly one-third of global mortality, with ischemic heart disease caused by a mismatch between myocardial oxygen supply and demand. Introduction: Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) and anomalous origin of the right coronary artery (RCA) are well-known but rare congenital heart diseases that are recognized as independent leading causes of sudden cardiac death(SCD). The independent prevalence of both these conditions is less than 1%. The co-occurrence of these two conditions is seldom ever reported in the literature. Heart failure remains a leading cause of hospitalization among older adult women, often due to delayed recognition of symptom exacerbation and limited knowledge of self-management strategies. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate whether a brief educational intervention could improve knowledge of heart failure management among older adult women at a community senior center. The DNP project leader conducted two educational sessions focusing on early recognition of heart failure symptoms, heart-healthy diet, and when to contact a healthcare provider. Background: Microgravity exposure alters cardiovascular loading, yet its impact on left atrial flow dynamics and thrombotic risk remains poorly understood. This study investigates how spaceflight-relevant microgravity-induced changes in cardiac outflow affect left atrial hemodynamics in healthy individuals and patients with atrial fibrillation.

Methods: Patient-specific left atrial models were generated for three healthy individuals and three AF patients. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were performed using each patient’s baseline mitral outflow waveform and two modified waveforms representing short- and long-duration post-flight cardiac loading changes derived from echocardiographic observations. African American (AA) women face disproportionate cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk due to adverse social determinants of health (SDoH), including lower socioeconomic status (SES). Physical activity (PA) and plasma extracellular vesicles (EVs) modulate CVD risk, but their relationships with SDoH remain unclear. This study examines associations between SDoH, PA, and plasma EVs in a Washington, DC-based cohort of at-risk AA women. Atherosclerosis remains the primary driver of global cardiovascular disease, yet clinical interventions are largely restricted to high-cost, invasive procedures only after it has reached a critical stage. Recent research has identified a connection between the oral microbiome and vascular health via the enterosalivary nitrate-nitrite-nitic oxide (NO) pathway. Oral nitrate-reducing bacteria (ONRB) drive the synthesization of NO by reducing dietary nitrate into nitrite, which is then converted into bioavailable NO. NO is a potent vasodilator that maintains endothelial health by suppressing inflammation through inhibiting the expression of adhesion molecules VCAM-1 and ICAM-1. While limited healthcare access contributes to this disparity, other factors remain unclear. Breastfeeding provides long-term protection against cardiovascular disease, but modern infant feeding practices are complex and may impact maternal cardiovascular health (CVH) in unexpected ways. BACKGROUND: Stroke leads to complex chronic structural and functional brain changes that specifically affect motor outcomes. The brain predicted age difference (PAD) has emerged as a sensitive biomarker of both sensorimotor and cognitive function after stroke. Our previous study showed a higher global brain PAD associated with poorer motor function after stroke. However, the association between local stroke lesion load, regional brain age, and motor impairment is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the associations between focal lesion damage, regional brain PAD in both hemispheres, and motor outcomes in chronic stroke, and to identify key predictors of motor impairment.

Background/purpose: Although periodontal disease is associated with an increased risk of hypertension, the endothelial mechanisms linking oral inflammation to vascular dysfunction remain unclear. We investigated whether Porphyromonas gingivalis lipopolysaccharide (Pg-LPS) can directly disturb endothelial homeostasis and whether macrophage–endothelial crosstalk further worsens endothelial injury.
