Remineralization Potential Of Grape Seed Extract On Artificial Enamel Caries Lesions, Serif Alpcan Ozden, Esra Oz
Remineralization Potential Of Grape Seed Extract On Artificial Enamel Caries Lesions, Serif Alpcan Ozden, Esra Oz
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Objective: This study aimed at a comparative analysis of the remineralization potential of grape seed extract (GSE) alone, together with casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) and/or acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF). Methods: The samples were randomly divided into seven groups according to the treatment used: 25% GSE, 1.23% APF (Gelato APF gel), and CPP-ACP (GC Tooth Mousse). The samples in group 7 received no treatment as a control group. All specimens were subjected to pH cycling for two weeks. Surface microhardness analyses were performed at baseline, after demineralization and remineralization. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), …

Internal Medicine, East Africa
Purpose.
This comparative study sets out to report dental caries status among individuals with Sickle Cell Disease (HbSS) against those with sickle cell trait (HbSA) and those without the disease (HbAA) as controls. The study further assessed the impact of penicillin chemoprophylaxis and hydroxyurea use on dental caries among Sickle Cell Disease participants.
Methods.
This was a comparative cross-sectional study in which 93 children aged 30 to 60 months were recruited. There were 60 participating children who had SCD (HbSS), 17 with SCD trait (HbAS) and 16 were without SCD or SC trait (HbAA). A questionnaire was used to record …

Are Hydroxyapatite Toothpastes The Answer To Fluoride Free Patients?
Richardson, Samantha 1 and Vaughan, Kelly 2
Dental Hygiene Program, Virginia Commonwealth University
Abstract:
Objectives/Aims: With the rising trend to become more clean with our ingredient lists, we are facing more patients refusing fluoride treatments and fluoridated toothpastes. This trend has been prevalent in our younger generations due to parents only wanting the purest natural ingredients for their children and now declining fluoride application. The goal of this literature is to find a safe alternative toothpaste that will be just as effective as fluoride.
Methods: This review of literature has been …

Caries Prevalence And Severity In Immature Permanent First Molar Teeth In Sanliurfa City, Turkey, Ahmet Aras, Mehmet Sinan Dogan
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
The prevalence of dental caries, a major public health problem in high-income countries, is gradually increasing in many low- and middle-income countries. The aim of this study is to evaluate the prevalence and severity of caries in the immature permanent first molars (PFMs) of children aged 7–9 years. Methods: This work is a retrospective analysis of caries in immature PFMs as observed from the panoramic radiographs of patients aged 7–9 years who presented to the pediatric clinic. The mean number of decayed, missing, or filled teeth (DMFT) and caries severity of immature PFMs were assessed. Results: A total of 3,112 …

Repeat Full Mouth Dental Rehabilitation Under General Anesthesia For Medicaid Eligible Healthy Children Who Are High Caries Risk, Lajoi E. Wiggins
Theses and Dissertations
Purpose: To evaluate the treatment of healthy children who are high caries risk and of low socioeconomic status and who require repeat full mouth dental rehabilitation (FMDR) under general anesthesia (GA).
Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed on healthy Medicaid eligible patients who were initially between 18 months - 6 years of age who underwent FMDR under GA in the OR more than once at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Dentistry, Department of Pediatric Dentistry from January 2008 to December 2018. Biographical information for each patient was gathered into a REDCap™ Survey. Statistical analysis, chi-squared test with …

Objective: To provide an analysis of the association between the longevity of breastfeeding and development of ECC. Determine the optimal time frame in which mothers should cease breastfeeding to reduce ECC development. Methods: Dr. Brickhouse, PubMed, Google Scholar and other scholarly databases were utilized to find current scientific evidence on the effects of breast milk on ECC. Relevant articles were summarized to write a review of literature. 16 articles published from 2015 to the present date were reviewed and cited. Results: From the studies, there is strong evidence to support breastfeeding beyond 12 months of age increases the prevalence …

Oral Health Needs And Parental Attitudes, Behavior, And Knowledge Of Lower Ses Children, Mildred Mcclain, Clifford R. Mcclain, Anthony Paventy
Nevada Journal of Public Health
Despite the declining prevalence of dental caries over recent decades, caries remain the most common chronic childhood disease, especially in high-risk (low socio-economic status) populations. This appears to be true even when parents are aware of good oral health habits. The purpose of this study was to gather oral hygiene data on high-risk children in Nevada and to assess parental attitudes and education concerning their children’s oral health. Using visual examinations and a dmft (decayed, missing, filled, teeth) severity index, 235 lower SES children were screened and given treatment recommendations. The screenings showed larger than expected prevalence in both caries …
