Drug-induced gingival overgrowth (DIGO) is defined as an abnormal growth of the gingiva due to adverse effect of some drugs such as immunosuppressant, calcium channel blocker, and anticonvulsant. Immunosuppressive drugs play an important role in controlling organ transplant rejection and were widely used to treat different diseases. Objective: Immunosuppressive drugs are used for prevention of transplant rejection and management of autoimmune disease. Multiple ulcerations are rarely caused by a traumatic event, but seizures can induce repeated injury to the oral mucosa. A patient with a seizure history possesses a challenge in their dental management. Objective: Stainless steel crowns (SSCs) are preformed metal crowns used to restore severely decayed primary teeth. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of pH changes and SSC margin trimming on nickel release in artificial saliva solution. Methods: A total of 90 SSCs were divided into three groups and placed in 35 ml of artificial saliva of pH 6.8, 5, and 3.5. Objective: This study aimed to examine the cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images of impacted maxillary canines and mesiodentes. Methods: This retrospective radiographic study was performed on 177 patients with 200 impacted maxillary canines and 12 mesiodentes. Using CBCT images, the unilateral/bilateral occurrence, presence of root dilaceration, mesio-distal and buccopalatal location, impaction condition, contact region of adjacent teeth, presence and degree of root resorption of adjacent teeth, dental follicle width, closest distance to the nasal cavity, nasopalatinal canal, and maxillary sinus were assessed. Objective: To determine which website characteristics are preferred by orthodontists, adult patients, and parents of patients.

Materials and Methods: 1,000 active members of the American Association of Orthodontists and 750 active orthodontic patients/parents were sampled. Participants rated the importance of website characteristics, indicated presence of those characteristics on the current website, and ranked sample website images. Preferences were compared between orthodontist and the patient/parent group using t-tests and sample websites were compared using ANOVA models and Tukey’s adjusted post-hoc tests. Significance level was set at 0.05.

This study compared surface electromyography (sEMG) cognitive training to conventional myofunctional therapy in controlling a swallowing dysfunction, commonly referred to as "tongue thrust". Nasal airway resistance (NAR) was assessed on every subject, to rule out mechanical obstruction that would prevent proper function. The scope of this investigation composed of evaluating baseline activity and dry swallowing patterns. Most existing cephalometric analyses are based on norms for the Caucasian population. Therefore, they cannot be properly applied for Mexican or Hispanic patients. Ethnic variations in the normal positions of the maxilla and mandible influence and alter the diagnosis and treatment plan for each of the different type of malocclusions. The present investigation utilized the Bolton Analysis to determine the incidence and magnitude of tooth-size discrepancy in a sample of 227 orthodontic patients. Sliding calipers were used to measure the mesiodistal width of the permanent dentition on pretreatment study models of 120 Caucasian, 51 Black, and 56 Hispanic patients. The overall and anterior ratios were analyzed and the frequency and magnitude of excess maxillary and mandibular tooth structure was determined. Each racial group demonstrated a significant incidence of tooth-size discrepancy in the maxillary and mandibular arches of a magnitude (> 0.5mm) which would require some form of correction. In order to investigate the characteristics of the facial complex of the Mexican and to compare them with the Caucasian, a sample of 40 subjects, 31 males and nine females, of Latin American origin from Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico, with a mean age of 16.6 years, were selected for this study. The criteria for selection were visual and only individuals with clinical normal, Angle Class I occlusion were chosen.

The morphologic characteristics of the oral cavity in five contemporary Western Indian and Alaskan Eskimo groups have been investigated by the use of study models of the dental archs. The sample consisted of 216 individuals, including 44 Navajos, 43 Apaches, 40 Papagos, 42 Pimas and 47 Alaskan Eskimos.

The first purpose of the study was to determine the extent of investigator error. Study casts and cephalograms were obtained on 18 female and 21 male Pima Indian students from the Stewart Indian Boarding School, Carson City, Nevada. Dentitional characteristics were assessed both clinically and by study casts. Cranio-facial analyses were performed by utilizing the skeletal and denture pattern variables suggested by the Downs and Riedel cephalometric analyses.

The purpose of this study was two-fold: (1) to determine the extent to which the Pima conforms to the Mongoloid master pattern, and (2) to test whether or not significant differences exist between the Pima and other Mongoloid groups which would allow discrimination.

The objectives of the investigation were to determine the extent to which the Mayo conformed to the four criteria of the Mongoloid dental master pattern, and to compare eight other specific tooth morphologic characteristics with like studies on Mongoloid and non-Mongoloid peoples. Plaster casts were made on a sample of forty-one Mayos.

Lateral head x-rays were obtained on selected samples of 24 Chamula, 29 Mayo and 39 Navajo Indians for cephalometric comparison.

Cephalometric evaluation was carried out by means of the Bjork analysis. Mean values for each of the Indian groups were determined and compared with each other and with the mean values of a group of Swedish conscripts studied by Bjork. The mean values were statistically analyzed and and subjected to the Student's "t" test to determine the significant levels of differences.

The occlusal patterns and morphology of the dentition of the Navajo Indians were studied and compared to those of populations of known Mongoloid ancestry. Thirteen dento-anthropomorphic characteristics were studied from plaster casts obtained from fifty-four Navajo Indians from the Monument Valley area of Utah. The thirteen characteristics included were:

  1. Degree of shovel-shape of the maxillary centrals and laterals.
  2. Presence of a winged appearance in the maxillary centrals.
  3. Mesiodistal crown diameters of the maxillary centrals and laterals.
  4. Type of lingual tubercle on the maxillary centrals and laterals.
  5. Cusp pattern of mandibular molars.
