Louisiana State University School of Dentistry announces a new two-year Advanced Education Program in Orofacial Pain, launching July 2025. The program provides interdisciplinary training, preparing specialists to manage complex oral and facial pain conditions through clinical care and academic instruction.

Presentation summary: The speakers focused on signs and symptoms of TMD that may be familiar and many that are commonly overlooked. This insight provides an opportunity to better identify and treat patients suffering from TMD. Various treatment methodologies were discussed with an emphasis on the concept of neuromuscular dentistry. Neuromuscular treatment of TMD involves identifying the mandibular position that corresponds to relaxed muscles of the anterior temporalis, masseters, and sternocleidomastoids. The benefit of the new TMJ position is confirmed using a custom orthotic and definitive treatment may involve long-term orthotic wear, dental reconstruction, or orthodontic treatment. There may be a …
