Abstract
Evaluation of the Antimicrobial Activity of Four Endodontic Sealers Against
Streptococcus mutans and Enterococcus faecalis Using the Agar Diffusion Test
Dakota A. Bailey, D.D.S.
Introduction: The antimicrobial activity of root canal sealers may contribute to the elimination of residual microorganisms that persist following chemomechanical preparation. Limited research has directly compared contemporary bioceramic sealers with traditional sealers against both Streptococcus mutans and Enterococcus faecalis. NeoSEALER EzFlo is a recently introduced bioceramic sealer with limited published antimicrobial data. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of EndoSequence BC HiFlow, NeoSEALER EzFlo, AH Plus Jet, and Kerr Pulp …
Intracanal Microbial Reduction After Root Canal Preparation With Different Tapered Instruments. An Ex-Vivo Study, Shehabeldin Mohamed Saber Prof.Dr.
Intracanal Microbial Reduction After Root Canal Preparation With Different Tapered Instruments. An Ex-Vivo Study, Shehabeldin Mohamed Saber Prof.Dr.
Dentistry
Aim: The objective of this ex vivo study was to assess the dual impact of instruments taper and irrigation activation methods on bacterial reduction in infected root canals.
Materials and methods:42 extracted human molar teeth were inoculated with Enterococcus faecalis for 2 weeks to develop a mature biofilm. The samples were divided into four experimental groups and two control groups. The experimental groups underwent root canal preparation using two different instruments: XP Shaper (taper 0.04) and Reciproc Blue R25 (taper 0.08). Additionally, two different activation methods were tested: mechanical (XP Finisher) and sonic (EDDY). Bacterial reduction was assessed using Colony …

Antimicrobial Efficacy Of Different Intracanal Medicaments Used In Regenerative Endodontics Against A Mature Multi-Species Biofilm Model (An Ex-Vivo Study), Shehabeldin Mohamed Saber Prof.Dr.
Dentistry
Introduction: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of different antimicrobial agents, including Ciprofloxacin, Doxycycline, Clindamycin, Metronidazole, Amoxicillin and Clavulanate, Triple antibiotic paste (TAP) and Calcium hydroxide (CH), as intra-canal medications for regenerative endodontics against an aged, multispecies ex-vivo biofilm model.
Methods: A total of one hundred fifty single-rooted human teeth were used in this study. Fifteen teeth were used to monitor the formation and maturation of a multispecies biofilm model consisting of Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Candida albicans. After 21 days of incubation, the other one-hundred and thirty-five teeth were divided into 9 equal …

Enterococcus faecalis is the most common bacteria isolated in conventional endodontic retreatments. Aim: To compare the impact of three irrigation modalities on the elimination of the isolated microbial strains of Enterococcus faecalis. Materials and Methods: Thirty patients requiring conventional endodontic retreatment for one of their mandibular premolars and tested positive for E. faecalis were chosen. Patients were randomly divided into three groups (n=10) according to the irrigation modality to be used; group I: syringe irrigation (NaOCl 2.625%), group II: NaOCl 2.625%+EndoActivator and group III: NaOCl 2.625%+diode laser. Before obturation, samples S2 were collected and PCR analysis was performed to identify …

BAU Journal - Health and Wellbeing
Microorganisms harbored in the complexities of root canal systems might lead to endodontic failures and development of apical periodontitis. Enterococcus faecalis is the most common isolated bacteria in these cases. Aim: This study was conducted to compare the efficiency of four irrigation regimens on the elimination of an inoculated strain of E. faecalis. Materials and Methods: Forty single rooted extracted premolars were inoculated with a standard strain of Enterococcus faecalis (ATCC 29212) and incubated at 37˚C for two weeks to allow infection of the dentinal tubules. The bacterial suspension was replaced with a new one every 48 hours. The teeth …

Persistent Endodontics Pathogens Biofilm Inhibited By Lactobacillus Reuteri Indonesian Strain, Armelia Sari Widyarman, Njoo Kiky Elysia Lazaroni
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Lactobacillus reuteri is known as probiotics that effective to improve oral health. Objective: To analyze the effect of L. reuteri Indonesian strain, towards Enterococcus faecalis and Candida albicans biofilm growth. Methods: This study was conducted using biofilm assay. Each E. faecalis ATCC-29212 and C. albicans ATCC-10231 were cultured in Brain Heart Infusion Broth, distributed into 96 well-microplate and incubated for 24h, 37°C, anaerobic condition for E. faecalis and aerobic condition for C. albicans. L. reuteri LC382415 (Indonesian strain) was cultured in deMann Rogosa Shar pe Broth and diluted into different concentrations (108,106, and 104 …

Antimicrobial Efficacy Of Myrmecodia Pendens Extract And Fraction Combination Against Enterococcus Faecalis Atcc 29212, Faisal Kuswandani, Mieke H. Satari, Ani M. Maskoen
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Enterococcus faecalis can withstand harsh environmental conditions in the root canal and cause a secondary infection. Myrmecodia pendens is an herbal medicine rich in polyphenol compounds that have antibacterial, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. Objectives: To analyze the effects of M. pendens fraction combination on the sensitivity of E. faecalis. Methods: The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined using a serial microdilution method, and the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) was determined by adding the test sample to sterile Mueler Hinton agar medium. Results: The MIC of combination 1 (hexane-ethyl acetate, HE) was 0.049 mg/mL, whereas those of combinations 2 (hexane-water, HA) …
