Retrospective Cbct Evaluation Of Missed Root Canals And Their Association With Periapical Lesions In A Makkah-Based Population, Mashael Alqahtani, Samia Mohamed Elsherief, Ibtesam Kamel Afifi
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Background: Missed root canals are common and can cause persistent periapical disease, making the assessment of their prevalence essential for improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of missed canals and evaluate their association with periapical lesions in root canal–treated teeth in the Makkah population.
Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study analysed 815 cone-beam computed tomography scans obtained from Umm Al-Qura University between 2019 and 2024. Missed canals and their association with periapical lesions were assessed by two independent observers. Statistical analysis was performed using the chi-square test.
Results: Missed canals were …

Objective: The objective was to evaluate cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) indications and distribution in pediatric, adolescent and adult patients. Methods: A total of 1013 CBCT images were reviewed in detail from the electronic patient database. The patient’s age, gender, CBCT indications and acquisition sites, referral departments, reason for referral, incidental findings in the imaging field and the presence of artifacts in the CBCT images were all recorded. The European DIMITRA project recommendations were used to categorize CBCT indications in the children and the European Guidelines were used for adults. Results: From a total of 1013 images; 5.3% …

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the correlation between ultrasonography (USG) and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and the accuracy between histopathological diagnosis and preliminary diagnosis in the diagnosis of periapical lesion. Methods: 20 patients with periapical lesion in the jaw, were included in the study. The presence of expansion or perforation and dimensions of the lesion were performed with CBCT. In the examination of the lesion with USG, shape, echogenicity, vascularization of the lesion and the presence of buccal expansion and perforation, were determined. Subsequently, a biopsy was taken from the lesion for histopathological examination and …

Theses and Dissertations
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the radiographic changes in periapical status and analysis of healing determined using periapical radiographs (PA) versus cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) pre-operatively and at 3-64 months following endodontic treatment.
Methods: Pre/post treatment radiograph and CBCT scans of patients who had NSRCT, NSReTx, or SRCT from July 2011-December 2018 at VCU Graduate Endodontic clinic were included in this study. Volumetric and linear measurements of periapical lesions on initial and recall PA and CBCT images were performed using three calibrated examiners. Changes and differences in the estimated area from PA to CBCT were …
