Comparison Of Endodontic Treatment Planning Decisions Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography Versus Periapical Radiography In Previously Endodontically Treated Molars, Sarah Alkanderi
Theses and Dissertations
Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine if treatment plans differ when evaluating previously endodontically treated molars using periapical images (PA’s) alone versus PA’s and CBCT.
Methods: A retrospective cohort chart review was conducted including 67 previously treated molars that had a CBCT taken. Two calibrated board-certified endodontists evaluated standard PA’s. A data sheet questionnaire regarding radiographic findings and treatment plan decisions was completed. Two weeks later, the same steps were repeated but the examiners evaluated both PA’s and CBCT images and again arrived at a recommended treatment plan.
Results: Agreement between raters was assessed with Cohen’s Kappa …
Achieving Dentin Conservation Using Dynamic Navigation Technology For Locating Calcified Canals, Madison W. Saunders
Achieving Dentin Conservation Using Dynamic Navigation Technology For Locating Calcified Canals, Madison W. Saunders
Theses and Dissertations
Purpose: Pulp canal obliteration (PCO) is a common sequela of dental trauma, caries, restorations and vital pulp therapy procedures. Despite the application of high magnification and CBCT imaging, access cavity preparation for such cases is prone to procedural errors that may lead to substantial loss of dentin structure thereby reducing the long-term prognosis. This study aimed to achieve dentin conservation using a novel computer assisted dynamic navigation system (Navident) in comparison to freehand access preparation for locating calcified canals.
Methods: Forty maxillary and mandibular central incisors (tooth #9 and tooth #25) were 3-D printed to simulate PCO. They were randomly …
Prevalence Of Enterococcus Faecalis And Candida Albicans In Teeth Requiring Endodontic Retreatment, Sopida Thipung
Prevalence Of Enterococcus Faecalis And Candida Albicans In Teeth Requiring Endodontic Retreatment, Sopida Thipung
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Endodontic failures are mainly caused by persistence of microorganisms in the root canal system. Enterococcus faecalis has been reported as the most commonly isolated species from root canals with endodontic treatment failure in many studies, but was not the dominant species in others. Recent studies showed that Candida albicans is found together with Enterococcus faecalis within infected root canals in a polymicrobial community and both species can form biofilm. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the prevalence of Enterococcus faecalis and/or Candida albicans in root canals requiring retreatment by using both culture-based and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques, and examine …
Retention Force And Wear Characteristic Of Ball And O-Ring Attachment In Chulalongkorn Mini-Implant Overdenture System., Thanakorn Thimkam
Retention Force And Wear Characteristic Of Ball And O-Ring Attachment In Chulalongkorn Mini-Implant Overdenture System., Thanakorn Thimkam
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The purpose of this experimental study was to evaluate wear characteristics and retention force of the RetenDent mini-implant overdenture system (Chulalongkorn product) after the insertion-removal fatigue test. One-piece mini-implants attachment system for overdenture, Osstem MS denture® type implant (OSSTEM, Germany GmbH), and RetenDent mini-implant were tested. All samples were subjected to repeated insertion and removal fatigue cycles by the universal testing machine (E1000, INSTRON Instrument, England). Subjected fatigue cycles were 5500 with 1.00Hz frequency to mimic a 5-year insertion and removal three times per day. The retention force was measured by separating the O-ring from the abutment and recorded with …
The Overall Esthetic Assessment Of Anterior Single-Tooth Implant Restoration Using Esthetic Sustainable Criteria In 5-Year Clinical Cross-Sectional Study, Tharitsawan Sangprasertkul
The Overall Esthetic Assessment Of Anterior Single-Tooth Implant Restoration Using Esthetic Sustainable Criteria In 5-Year Clinical Cross-Sectional Study, Tharitsawan Sangprasertkul
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Objective: To compare the esthetic score (using the Esthetic Sustainable Criteria) among titanium, zirconia and gold alloy abutments of single tooth implant in 5 years follow up. Mateirals and Methods: 24 patients who were treated with single anterior implant at Faculty of Dentistry, Chulalongkorn University were recruited. There were 8 patients for each abutment material. Demographic data, biological parameters such as modified plaque index (mPI), modified sulcus bleeding index (mSBI), probing depth (PD), radiographic images (Periapical films and CBCT images) were collected. The esthetic score (gingival, prosthodontic and bone score) was evaluated according to the Esthetic Sustainable Criteria. The mean …

Fracture Resistance Of Simulated External Cervical Resorption In Anterior Teeth Restored With And Without A Fiber Post., Michelle M. Romeo
Fracture Resistance Of Simulated External Cervical Resorption In Anterior Teeth Restored With And Without A Fiber Post., Michelle M. Romeo
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Introduction: External cervical resorption (ECR) is a destructive type of external resorption that can be difficult to treat. ECR usually begins subgingival at the cementoenamel junction of teeth and continues apically and circumferentially. This substantial loss of tooth structure may make these teeth more prone to fracture and should be addressed when treatment planning teeth with ECR. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the fracture resistance of treated and non-treated teeth with simulated ECR using two different treatment modalities.
Materials and Methods: Forty-eight extracted human permanent mandibular central incisors were selected. Teeth were randomly divided into …

Clinicopathological Study Of Oral Lichen Planus And Oral Linchenoid Reaction, Gubod Eb Robson
Student Works (2020-2029)
Introduction: Oral lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the mucosa of the oral cavity. Oral lichenoid reactions/ lesions share many clinical and histopathological features with oral lichen planus, and represent a response to extrinsic or causative factors (drugs, allergens). Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and histopathological features of oral lichen planus and oral lichenoid reactions/ lesions. Objectives: The objectives of this study were to assess the clinical and histopathological features of patients diagnosed with oral lichen planus and oral lichenoid reaction/ lesions. This study also sought to investigate the association between …

Dentistry
Aim: In an attempt to move toward exploration of the antibacterial properties of herbal products, this study evaluated the effect of how the addition of Moringa would affect the physical properties of the commercial Endofil sealer. Materials and Methods: An experimental in vitro study was performed using three experimental sealers. There were four groups in this study: Group A (ZnO/E sealer alone), Group B (ZnO/E and Moringa root), Group C (ZnO/E and Moringa leaf), and Group D (ZnO/E and Moringa leaf extract liquid). Measurements were carried out according to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standardization 6876:2012. Moringa oleifera was added …
