Introduction: Dens invaginatus also called dens in dente is frequent developmental anomaly, most commonly affect maxillary lateral incisors. It can create an inflammatory and microbial pathway that may compromise pulp vitality. Once detected, intervention must be planned. Aim of the study : This study investigated Dens invaginatus prevalence in maxillary lateral incisors in Egyptian population and its categorization according to Oehlers classification using CBCT. Materials and Methods This study assessed 296 cone beam computed tomography scans including a total number of 592 maxillary lateral incisor. Two experienced examiners: an oral and maxillofacial radiologist and an endodontist, inspected Dens invaginatus in …

Dentistry

Periapical pathosis in periapical radiographs must be properly diagnosed for the success of endodontic treatment but is often muddled by 2D imaging limitations and subjective interpretation. Artificial intelligence (AI) offers a solution, but whether the diagnostic granularity of AI versus human clinicians in everyday clinical practice has been adequately explored remains to be addressed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of ChatGPT-5 in detecting periapical radiographic abnormalities compared with the three-expert consensus reference standard. Methods: In this diagnostic accuracy retrospective study, 270 periapical radiographs were independently read by a large language model (ChatGPT-5) and a …

Adapt Vr In Dental Education: Boosting Preclinical Skill And Self-Confidence, Shehabeldin Mohamed Saber Prof.Dr.

Dentistry

Introduction: Preclinical dental training requires extensive feedback and repetition, which traditional manikin exercises often lack. Adapt VR is a cost-effective, immersive system that delivers interactive, adaptive training with real-time feedback. Methods: This comparative study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Adapt VR system in preclinical training. A total of 126 third-year dental students were randomly assigned to an Adapt VR Group 1 (n = 63), acquiring VR learning experience before practicing on laboratory simulators, or a control group (n = 63) who started their training on simulators directly. After practising Class I and II cavity preparations, laboratory performance was …

Automated Assessment Of Periapical Health Based On The Radiographic Periapical Index Using Yolov8, Yolov11, And Yolov12 One-Stage Object Detection Algorithms, Shehabeldin Mohamed Saber Prof.Dr., Ahmed A. Torky Phd

Dentistry

This study investigates the application of recent YOLO (You Only Look Once) algorithms for automated detection and classification of apical periodontitis using the Periapical Index (PAI) scoring system (1–5). A dataset of 699 digital periapical radiographs was collected from diverse sources, de-identified, and annotated by calibrated experts before splitting into training, validation, and testing sets. Three deep learning models (YOLOv8m, YOLOv11m, YOLOv12m) were trained and their performance was evaluated using Precision, Recall, F1 score, mean average precision (mAP50), Intersection over union (IoU), and confusion matrices. Two-sided McNemar’s exact test was further conducted to compare models on lesion-level outcomes. The results …

The Science Of Sound: Studying The Cognitive, Emotional, And Physiological Effects Of Frequency, Genre, And Music, Jett Yarborough Oct 2025

The Science Of Sound: Studying The Cognitive, Emotional, And Physiological Effects Of Frequency, Genre, And Music, Jett Yarborough

Senior Honors Theses

Music influences emotion, physiology, and cognition, yet little is known about how the frequency it is tuned to affects these influences. Prior research has shown that music tuned to 432 Hz can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve sleep. My colleagues and I conducted two studies to investigate this. Our research found that music tuned to 432 Hz promotes a significant increase in memory retention and induces a state of focus and relaxation. These results suggest that shifting from the standard tuning frequency of 440 Hz to 432 Hz could have a profoundly positive impact on our daily lives. …

Centering And Shaping Abilities Of Three Different Cross-Section Rotary Systems In Curved Canals Using Cbct, Sherif Shafik

Dentistry

ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to examine the centering and shaping abilities of the E3 Azure, T Blue and XPRS rotary devices in severely curved root canals utilizing CBCT. 51 mesial roots were used in this study, then distributed into three groups of 17 mesial canals each according to the instrumentation technique: T-Blue, E3 Azure and XPS. The final apical size of instrumentation was 30/0.04 for all groups. At 2 mm, all pairwise comparisons were statistically significant, with Azure showing the highest transportation, followed by T-Blue, and XPS showing the least (p< 0.001). At 4 mm and 6 mm, Azure and T-Blue showed significantly higher transportation than XPS (p< 0.001). For XP-Shaper files, centering ratios followed a descending order from 6 mm to 4 mm and were lowest at 2 mm, with all pairwise comparisons being statistically significant (p< 0.001). it was concluded that XPS show lesser transportation and better centering ability.

Objectives: The use of the surgical operating microscope, CBCT imagining, biocompatible filling materials and ultrasonic instruments have improved the success and predictability of apical surgery. Despite these advances, more accurate and precise techniques for creating osteotomies and root-resections (apicoectomies) have not been widely adopted. This study highlights how dynamic navigation systems (DNS) can help avoid unnecessary dentin removal and “mitigate iatrogenic errors” such as root perforation. Methods: A total of 56 root-end resections were planned and completed on two sets of identical TrueJaw Endosurg models (DE Labs, Santa Barbra, CA, USA). One set of maxillary and mandibular jaws were used …

Introduction: We used CBCT scans of a human mandibular molar in concert with the Stratasys 3-D printer to fabricate said teeth with similar texture and hardness to enamel, dentin, and cementum. The printed tooth should also have the same crown and root anatomy, as well as root canal anatomy of the scanned tooth.
