Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) is an approach that recognizes the impact of trauma on patients, considering trauma to better utilize methods for more effective patient care. This approach contains the following ten implementation domains that serve as a guide in organizational change:

4. Engagement and Involvement
5. Cross-sector Collaboration
6. Screening, Assessment, and Treatment Services

Special Care Clinic At Lsu School Of Dentistry, Francis Martello Dds

The new LSU Special Care Clinic is fully functioning and helping to train dental and dental hygiene students in how to best care for patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The clinic is located on the second floor of the Administration Building, thanks to new dean, Dr. John Gallo. A soft (and snowy!) opening in January 2025 was followed by a grand opening on May 9th. The clinic is staffed by first through fourth-year dental students, with leadership from members of the Special Care Dentistry Association (SCDA) student chapter.

Dental professionals should become familiarized with Reactive Infectious Mucocutaneous Eruption, or RIME, which presents with erosive mucositis typically affecting two or more mucous membranes, frequently in the oral cavity, and oftentimes is accompanied by skin lesions or rash.

‘RIME’ is a relatively new term that was initially designated strictly to the category of MIRM (Mycoplasma-induced rash and mucositis). In 2018, however, the term RIME was adopted to distinguish patients whose mucocutaneous eruption arose from other various respiratory-related illnesses.
