Background: The goal of this systematic study and meta-analysis was to evaluate the efficacy of hard and/or soft tissue grafts associated with type-1 implants on healing and treatment outcomes. The primary outcomes studied were implant survival rate, pocket depth, marginal periimplant recession, bone loss, bone thickness (volumetric change), interproximal bone level, mesial and distal papilla migration, and radiographic evaluation; and the secondary parameters were Pink Esthetic Score (PES), vertical distance from implant shoulder and bone, Visual Analogue Score (VAS), Implant Stability Quotient (ISQ), and biological complications (fistulas, pain, mucositis, and peri-implantitis). Methods: The PICO strategy was used to formulate the …

Background: The goal of this in vitro study was to compare three different surfaces: two types of implant surfaces commercially available ([a] smooth/machined and [b] acid-treated surface) versus (c) anodized surface. Discs were manufactured with commercially pure titanium (CP) grade IV, which were subsequently analyzed by scanning microscopy and fibroblastic and osteoblastic cell cultures. Methods: Ninety-nine discs (5 × 2 mm) were manufactured in titanium grade IV and received different surface treatments: (i) Mach group: machined; (ii) AA group: double acid etch; and (iii) AN group: anodizing treatment. Three discs from each group were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) …

Build Angle Effect On 3d-Printed Dental Crowns Marginal Fit Using Digital Light- Processing And Stereo-Lithography Technology: An In Vitro Study, Omar Elsergany
Dentistry
Background The effect of 3D printing technology and build angle on the marginal fit of printed crowns is unclear. The objective of this research was to use digital light processing (DLP) and stereo-lithography (SLA)-based 3D printing to construct single restorations with varied build angles and to analyze the crowns′ marginal fit.
Methods A prepared resin first molar was scanned utilizing an optical scanner. Three build orientations were used to construct the specimens: 0, 45, and 90o. DLP and SLA technology were used to produce the casting patterns. A digital microscope was used to measure the marginal gaps. The effect of …

Background: Several treatment options are planned for completely edentulous patients rehabilitation which were developed to meet patients desires and requirements, starting from conventional complete denture till implant supported fixed full arch cases. Each technique has its own indication and limitations. Passive fit is an important factor for the long-term success of implant- prosthesis, which necessitate accurate transfer of the implant position. Recently, digital impressions have been introduced in dental implant treatment. By the use of scan body and different optical scanning methods, the position of scan bodies can be transferred to a virtual implant position within the dental arch. Material …

Testing The Strength Of Thin Feather-Edge Monolithic Multilayered Zirconia Crowns: A Pilot Study With A Novel Acoustic Test, Estelle Saab, Camille Haddad, Maher Abboud, Maha Daou, Amine Zoghbi
International Arab Journal of Dentistry
Introduction: Limited research has explored the mechanical characteristics of recently introduced multilayered monolithic zirconia (MZC) crowns with feather-edge margins design. Moreover, most of the conventional techniques for evaluating the mechanical behavior of brittle dental ceramics rely on destructive tests, making it impossible to precisely evaluate real strength values due to premature crack initiation detection failure.
Objectives: The main objective of the study was to assess the load capacity of translucent multilayered monolithic zirconia crowns with feather-edge margin thicknesses of 0.4 mm and 0.5 mm. Additionally, the research introduced a novel non-destructive acoustic emission testing (AET) technique in the …

Shore A Hardness And Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer Analysis Of Thymol-Modified Maxillofacial Silicone Material, Manar Hussein Ramadhan, Faiza M. Abdul-Ameer
Maaen Journal for Medical Sciences
The longevity of any prosthesis depends on the materials from which it was fabricated, which is why defects in the material properties may reduce the service life of the prosthesis and necessitate its replacement. This study aims to test the influence of incorporating different weight percentages of thymol micro-powder into the maxillofacial silicone matrix on Shore A hardness of the silicone. Room-temperature vulcanised VST-50 maxillofacial silicone was used to prepare the study specimens. Thymol micro-powder was incorporated into the silicone matrix in two percentages (0.75 wt.% and 1 wt.%). 30 specimens were prepared and then subdivided equally into three groups, …

Fabrication And Characterization Of Nylon 6 Fiber Via Wet Spinning Method For Application As A Reinforcing Material For A Direct Dental Bridge, Dissa Kirana Wijaya, Nina Djustiana, Yanwar Faza, Arief Cahyanto, Andri Hardiansyah
Makara Journal of Science
Nylon is a biocompatible thermoplastic polymer that is well known for its excellent fracture resistance, making it suitable for fabricating fiber-reinforced composite (FRC)-based dental bridges. FRC is widely used in dentistry. This study aimed to investigate the structural and morphological characteristics of the nylon 6 fiber prepared using five different weights of nylon 6 dissolved in formic acid. The nylon 6 fiber was successfully fabricated via a simple wet spinning method using water as a coagulant. The fiber was then characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, optical microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. FTIR spectroscopy confirmed the presence of nylon …

Meyer’s proposed chew-in technique also called functionally generated path (FGP) technique, is indicated for the restoration of an edentulous arch that is opposed by natural teeth as it does seem to provide the most accurate method of recording occlusal patterns, also help to minimize the effects of negative factors, and to overcome the deficiencies of articulators. As stated by Rudd and Morrow, this technique is especially suitable for tooth-supported complete dentures, due to inherent stability of tooth-supported record bases helps in recording jaw relationships accurately. Whenever a single complete denture is opposed by natural dentition, problems observed are abrasion of …

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of two polishing systems on the surface roughness and color stability of lithium disilicate ceramic. Materials and Methods: Forty disc-shaped lithium disilicate samples were constructed and cemented into a cavity prepared onto the labial surface of freshly extracted bovine teeth; The samples were divided into four groups (10 samples per group); C: Control, SS: Scaling only, SE: Scaling followed by polishing using Eve Diapro lithium disilicate polishers, SD: Scaling followed by polishing using Diatech ShapeGuard ceramic polishing plus kit. The surface roughness was measured before scaling, after scaling and finally after the …

Objectives: This study aimed to analyze subchondral cyst on the mandibular condyle using fractal dimension (FD) measurement on a panoramic radiograph. Methods: This retrospective study examined 15 patients aged 24 to 75 years who had undergone panoramic radiography and cone-beam computed tomography on both sides of the mandibular condyles, between January 2013 and November 2017, in the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Clinic, Dental Hospital, Mahidol University. These 15 patients, all of whom had a subchondral cyst on one side of the mandibular condyle, constituted both the study and control groups: the 15 affected sides constituted the study group, …
