Background: Dental stimuli can evoke fear after being paired - or conditioned - with aversive outcomes (e.g., pain). Pre-exposing the stimuli before conditioning can impair dental fear learning via a phenomenon known as latent inhibition. Theory suggests changes in expected relevance and attention are two mechanisms responsible for latent inhibition. In the proposed research, we test whether pre-exposure dose and degree of pre-exposure novelty potentiate changes in expected relevance and attention to a pre-exposed stimulus. We also assess if the manipulations alter latent inhibition and explore the possible moderating role of individual differences in pain sensitivity.

To determine the effect of local anesthesia on postoperative comfort in patients undergoing dental care under general anesthesia.

Methods:

This study was modeled as a double-blinded randomized control trial. Patients included healthy children under the age of 6 years scheduled for restorative dental treatment under general anesthesia (GA). Patient behavior was evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively using the Faces, Legs, Activity, Cry and Consolability (FLACC) or other pain score and postoperatively using the Parent’s Postoperative Pain Measure (PPPM). Purpose: Evaluate current hiring practices and employee retention characteristics in orthodontic private practices.

Methods: Orthodontists (n=1000) were surveyed regarding their hiring methods and outcomes. Responses were summarized with descriptive statistics. Chi-square tests were used to compare hiring practices and perceptions. Nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis tests were utilized in analysis of retention thresholds.

Results: Survey response rate was 7.2% (72 responses). When comparing thresholds previous to, and after the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an increase in open clinical positions compared with non-clinical and managerial positions (p=.0008). 68% of orthodontists reported a decrease in qualified applications for clinical positions compared with non-clinical and managerial …

Dysplasia In Oral Lichen Planus In A Sample Of Egyptians Attending 2 Tertiary Care Centers In Cairo, Dalia Ghalwash, Ayman El-Gawish

The present retrospective study aimed to evaluate dysplastic changes in oral lichen planus (OLP) lesions and related risk factors in a sample of Egyptians. The records of patients with histological diagnosis of OLP, who attended the Oral Medicine and Periodontology Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University, and Faculty of Dentistry, the British University in Egypt, in the period from 2020 to 2023 were used. The frequency of dysplasia was 10.19% and was statistically not associated with age, gender or smoking. Our results showed that the erosive type registered the highest rate (p<0.001), followed by atrophic, whereas papular type did not show dysplasia. Also, the most common site for dysplasia was the buccal mucosa and tongue (p<0.001 and p=0.001, respectively), then gingiva, lips, and floor of the mouth. Given the importance of OLP, among the Egyptian population seeking care in our clinics, more research should be conducted to create a database of statistical information.

Objective: This study aimed to compare injectable PRF (I-PRF) with a collagen carrier and β-Tricalcium Phosphate (β-TCP) for maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA) with simultaneous implant placement.

Materials and methods: Fourteen patients with missed maxillary posterior teeth and 3-5 mm residual bone height (RBH) were selected to perform lateral MSFA with simultaneous implant placement. เนื่องจากแนวโน้มในปัจจุบันของวัสดุทางทันตกรรมมุ่งเน้นไปที่การนำกระบวนการทางดิจิทัลมาใช้ในทางคลินิกอย่างเป็นรูปธรรม ตัวอย่างเช่น การใช้เทคโนโลยีการพิมพ์สามมิติในการผลิตอุปกรณ์ต่าง ๆ การศึกษาครั้งนี้จึงมุ่งเน้นการประเมินความทนต่อการสึกหรอของชิ้นงานที่ผลิตจากวัสดุสำหรับอุปกรณ์เฝือกสบฟัน (occlusal splint) โดยการพิมพ์สามมิติที่มุมการพิมพ์ต่างกัน เพื่อตรวจสอบมุมที่เหมาะสมที่สุดในการต้านทานการสึกหรอ เนื่องจากความทนต่อการสึกหรอและความแข็งของผิววัสดุเป็นปัจจัยสำคัญที่มีผลต่ออายุการใช้งานของอุปกรณ์เฝือกสบฟัน อย่างไรก็ตาม งานวิจัยที่ผ่านมาเกี่ยวกับการพิมพ์สามมิติมักมุ่งเน้นไปที่คุณสมบัติอื่น เช่น ความหยาบผิวขณะพิมพ์ (as-built surface roughness) หรือชนิดของวัสดุที่ใช้เป็นหลัก ดังนั้น การศึกษาครั้งนี้จึงให้ความสนใจในประเด็นดังกล่าว ตัวอย่างการทดลองจำนวน 6 ชิ้นต่อกลุ่มถูกสร้างขึ้นภายใต้ข้อกำหนดของมาตรฐาน ISO 14569-2 โดยชิ้นงานแต่ละชิ้นถูกกดด้วยเครื่องไฮดรอลิกด้วยแรงประมาณเท่ากับแรงบดเคี้ยวสูงสุดของผู้ป่วย bruxism (225 นิวตัน) ที่ความถี่ 1 เฮิรตซ์ จำนวน 840 ครั้ง ความหยาบผิวของชิ้นงานก่อนและหลังการทดสอบวัดด้วยเครื่องโปรฟิโลมิเตอร์แบบสัมผัส (contact profilometer) จากนั้นจึงทำการทดสอบความแข็งผิวด้วยเครื่องทดสอบไมโครฮาร์ดเนส (microhardness testing machine) ผลการทดลองแสดงให้เห็นว่าชิ้นงานที่พิมพ์ด้วยมุม 90 องศามีค่าความลึกของการสึกหรอต่ำที่สุด โดยค่าการสึกหรอเพิ่มขึ้นตามลำดับที่มุม 60, 30 และ 0 องศา ซึ่งมีความสัมพันธ์กับผลการทดสอบความแข็งของผิววัสดุ อย่างไรก็ตาม ในการนำผลการศึกษานี้ไปประยุกต์ใช้จริง ควรพิจารณาคุณสมบัติอื่น ๆ ที่อาจส่งผลต่อการใช้งานในแต่ละมุมการพิมพ์ร่วมด้วยอย่างรอบคอบ

This study aimed to compare the biological properties of a newly developed cockle shell-derived bioceramic sealer (NDBS) with those of iRoot SP in relation to human periodontal ligament (hPDL) cells. NDBS was prepared according to previous study, and both sealers were extracted in complete medium and diluted into four concentrations (non-diluted, 1:2, 1:4, and 1:8). Different abutment materials induce different immune responses in peri-implant soft tissues. Previous study showed that Ti base abutments without loading demonstrated comparable soft tissue-reaction to titanium abutments (Sampatanukul et al., 2018). Inflammatory responses after functional loading had not been elucidated in the previous study. This study aimed to evaluate the surface roughness of 5 provisional materials with different surface characterization methods after simulating 1 year of toothbrushing. Specimens were fabricated from autopolymerized polymethyl methacrylate (UNIFAST Trad), autopolymerized bis-acryl composite resin (Protemp 4), light-activated composite resin (REVOTEK LC), milled polymethyl methacrylate block (DD provi P HI), and 3-dimensionally printed methacrylate oligomer (Nextdent C&B MFH).
