This month's Meeting lecture reviewed non-restorative versus restorative management of caries based on science, evidence based research and leading expert guidelines with Dr. Margherita Fontana. Dr. Fontana stressed that caries risk assessments done with patients give insights but that should not be the end of the conversation.

Hereditary gingival fibromatosis (HGF) is a disease that can present as benign overgrowth of gingival tissue in the mouth. The overgrowth can enclose the entire mouth and teeth in severe cases or present itself in a concentrated area. Researchers have identified that mutations in the SOS1 gene can be responsible for HGF. This disease can impair basic functions related to the mouth. Eating, smiling, speaking can all be affected. Additionally, excess inflammation can cause periodontal disease because of the difficulty in maintaining proper oral health. Objective: This study evaluated the effect of layer thickness, model inner structure, and im- plant angulation on the accuracy of 3D printed models with repositional analogs.

Materials and methods: 126 models designed to receive all-on-4 implant retained fixed den- tal prosthesis were 3D printed. Models were divided into 2 groups (n=63) according to posterior implant angulation (Group 1; 30 ̊ and group 2;45 ̊). BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to compare the color stability and marginal adaption of lithium disilicate veneers before and after thermocycling using various resin composite materials employed as cement. METHODS: Laminate veneer preparation was done on an acrylic tooth according to standardized procedures. The veneer preparations were duplicated into twenty-one dies. The veneers were fabricated from lithium disilicate using the CEREC in Lab system. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate if providing supplemental learning materials aligned to students’ learning modes is equally beneficial among all modes both subjectively and objectively. Methods: IRB approval was obtained (Approval #HR-3746). Second-year dental students (n=92) enrolled in Preclinical Endodontics took Kolb Experiential Learning Profile (KELP) questionnaire to determine their learning mode: Abstract Conceptualization (AC), Active Experimentation (AE), Reflective Observation (RO), or Concrete Experience (CE). Students were assigned into groups corresponding to their learning mode. Introduction: The aim of this study was twofold: 1) objectively evaluate root canal shaping and procedural mishaps using different NiTi rotary systems in the hands of unexperienced pre-doctoral dental students; 2) to gain an understanding of which rotary file system students subjectively prefer. Methods: Second year dental students (n=94) enrolled in preclinical endodontics received instructional videos and didactic lectures on the use of three different rotary filing systems: Vortex Blue, EndoSequence, and ProTaper Universal. Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare fluid dynamics in complex root canal systems shaped with minimally invasive versus progressively tapered file systems using single and double side-vented irrigation tips at different flowrates. Methods: Two identical, plastic mandibular molars were instrumented with minimally invasive and progressive file systems and scanned via micro-computed tomography. A computational fluid dynamics model was generated and enhanced with accessory canals and isthmus in the distal and mesial roots, respectively. Fully-guided surgeries have been proven to be more accurate than non-guided implant placement. Surgical guides with metal keys are often used during guided surgery, but add tolerance to the guides. Objective: The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to document the effect of preemptive analgesia on patient-reported pain following periodontal and implant-related surgical procedures. Methods: A comprehensive search of the literature was conducted in PubMed, Cochrane, and Web of Science (PROSPERO ID: CRD42023471166). Randomized placebo-controlled clinical trials on adults undergoing periodontal and implant-related surgeries were included. A meta-analysis was performed comparing pain data at postoperative hours 1, 3, 6, 8, 24 and 72 between pre-emptive medication versus placebo groups. Peripheral ameloblastoma is a benign, painless, and slow-growing odontogenic tumor, which commonly affects gingival soft tissues or edentulous alveolar areas. Peripheral ameloblastoma is typically found during the 5th to 7th decades of life, with a mean patient age of 52 years, and exhibits a male predilection. Histopathology features are consistent with those of conventional ameloblastoma. The treatment of choice is conservative surgical excision with minimal disease-free margins and appropriate follow-up.

Dynamic surgical guidance (DSG) is a recent advance in implant dentistry, used in an effort to maximize the efficiency and predictability of implant surgeries. A study, conducted by Navigate Surgical Technologies using the Inliant system, was undertaken in Toronto, Canada to analyze the success and accuracy of this technology. Twenty-three implants placed in twenty-two subjects were examined. The results showed that implant placement using Inliant was extremely accurate when compared to the pre-surgical plan.
