Human dental pulp stem/stromal cells (hDPSCs) derived from the permanent secondary dentition are recognised to possess certain advantageous traits, which support their potential use as a viable source of mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) for regenerative medicine-based applications. However, the well-established heterogeneous nature of hDPSC subpopulations, coupled with their limited numbers within dental pulp tissues, has impeded our understanding of hDPSC biology and the translation of sufficient quantities of these cells from laboratory research, through successful therapy development and clinical applications. Assessments in dental education need some form of evidence of validity to support the proposed interpretations of scores. Prevalence of non-syndromic tooth agenesis has a reported range of 1.6-36.5% and varies by gender, ethnicity, and location. While tooth agenesis is well studied, information within ethnic groups requires further investigation. Objective: to evaluate the effect of specialization and experience on treatment planning multidisciplinary cases. Materials and Methods: A survey presenting 7 clinical scenarios and their potential treatment plans was designed and disseminated electronically to five groups of dentists (general dentists, endodontists, prosthodontists, orthodontists, periodontists). 509 responses were collected and analyzed for distribution and levels of agreement. Results: A moderate kappa was found (k=0.4-0.6) between endodontists and periodontists and within endodontists. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial activity, biocompatibility, and mineralization-inducing potential of calcium silicate-based pulp capping materials. Methods: Six contemporary calcium silicate-based pulp capping materials were compared in this study, including ProRoot MTA, MTA Angelus, Biodentine, EndoSequence, NeoMTA 2 and NeoPutty. The antibacterial effects of these materials against Streptococcus mutans UA159 and Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212 were determined by the agar-diffusion assay and the direct culture test. The biocompatibility and mineralization-inducing potential of these materials in preodontoblastic 17IIA11 cells were compared by the MTT assay and by evaluating alkaline phosphatase activity and calcium deposits, respectively. …

Purpose: Current literature was aimed to explore CNAs attitudes, knowledge, and expectations on the use of music for individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD)/dementia while providing oral care.

Methods: A single survey, 5-point Likert scale survey that included demographic and qualitative questions, was posted on a private CNA Facebook group page. The survey was posted to explore attitudes, knowledge, and expectations of CNAs towards the use of music therapy. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square, and thematic coding.

Purpose: To determine if behavior at consult visit and sedation medication dosages are associated with the success of sedation visits and patient’s behavior using the diazepam, meperidine, and hydroxyzine (DMH) regimen.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted of 324 VCU Pediatric Dentistry Department patients who underwent 404 moderate conscious sedation visits with DMH regimen from April 2017 to June 2022. Introduction: E-cigarette use among middle and high school youth increased from 2. 5 million in 2014 to 9.2 million in 2019, becoming the most common tobacco product used among youth. Hispanic youth, the largest ethnic minority in the United States, have higher rates of tobacco use, including e-cigarettes, than non-Hispanics. Identifying factors that put youth at risk for future e-cigarette use is vital to focusing prevention efforts. Informed by social cognitive theory, this study identifies predictors of e-cigarette uptake among e-cigarette naïve youth in a predominantly low-income Hispanic community.

GEM21S is a product that includes a recombinant growth factor approved by the Federal Drug Administration for oral surgery. The purpose of this study is to measure the shear bond strength between dental cement and four different machinable, lithium disilicate glass ceramics, under varied etch time with hydrofluoric acid. Objective: To measure translucency parameter, biaxial flexural strength, radiopacity and microstructure of various lithium disilicate materials used for dental restorations. Materials and Methods: CAD/CAM lithium disilicate glass-ceramic blocks: IPS e.max CAD (Ivoclar Vivadent), CerecTessera (Dentsply Sirona), and Amber Mill (Hassbio America) were used (shade A2, HT, and MT). The purpose of this study was to determine color-blind racial attitudes in a convenience sample of clinical dental hygienists.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) arising from an epidermal inclusion cyst (EIC) is uncommon. We present a case of a 70-year-old man with a scalp nodule with persistent discharge that was resected based on the clinical impression of an EIC. Histopathologic exam showed an infundibular EIC with an epidermal type of squamous epithelium; however, some of the cyst lining and lumen was replaced by squamous proliferation with malignant features. There are 56 cases of SCC arising in EICs reported in the English literature. Though suspected EICs are commonly benign, a thorough pathologic evaluation is required to rule out malignancy.

The structure and function of epithelial cells are critical for the construction and maintenance of intact epithelial surfaces throughout the body. Beyond the mechanical barrier functions, epithelial cells have been identified as active participants in providing warning signals to the host immune and inflammatory cells and in communicating various detailed information on the noxious challenge to help drive specificity in the characteristics of the host response related to health or pathologic inflammation. งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อพัฒนาตัวชี้วัดที่ใช้ประเมินคุณภาพชีวิตในมิติสุขภาพช่องปากชนิด แบบประเมินผลกระทบของสุขภาพช่องปากสำหรับเท็มโพโรแมนดิบิวลาร์ดิสออเดอร์ ฉบับภาษาไทย และทดสอบคุณสมบัติการวัดทางจิตวิทยาของแบบประเมิน วิธีการวิจัยทำโดยการแปลแบบประเมินต้นฉบับภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาไทยและดัดแปลงข้ามวัฒนธรรม รวมถึงทดสอบความตรงเชิงเนื้อหาด้วยการหาค่าดัชนีความเที่ยงตรงของเนื้อหา โดยทันตแพทย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านทันตกรรมบดเคี้ยวและความเจ็บปวดช่องปากใบหน้าจำนวน 5 ท่าน จากนั้นนำแบบประเมินไปทดสอบกับผู้ป่วยคนไทย แบ่งเป็นกลุ่มผู้ป่วยทีเอ็มดี 110 คน และกลุ่มผู้ป่วยที่ไม่มีภาวะทีเอ็มดีซึ่งเป็นกลุ่มควบคุม 110 คน การทดสอบความเที่ยงภายในใช้การคำนวณค่าสัมประสิทธิ์ครอนบาคแอลฟาจากคะแนน OHIP-TMDs ของกลุ่มผู้ป่วยทีเอ็มดี ทดสอบความตรงเชิงโครงสร้างด้วยวิธีการตรวจสอบจากกลุ่มที่แตกต่างกัน โดยประเมินความแตกต่างของคะแนนของ OHIP-TMDs ระหว่างผู้ป่วยทีเอ็มดีและกลุ่มควบคุม รวมถึงทดสอบความเที่ยงจากการทดสอบซ้ำโดยผู้ป่วยทีเอ็มดี 30 คน กำหนดระยะเวลาห่างกัน 2 วัน และใช้ค่าสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์ภายในชั้นในการคำนวณ การทดสอบทั้งหมดจะกำหนดการทดสอบทางสถิติที่ระดับความเชื่อมั่นร้อยละ 95 ผลการวิจัยพบว่าแบบประเมินผลกระทบของสุขภาพช่องปากสำหรับเท็มโพโรแมนดิบิวลาร์ดิสออเดอร์ ฉบับภาษาไทยที่ถูกพัฒนาขึ้นมีคุณสมบัติการวัดทางจิตวิทยาที่ดี โดยแบบประเมินมีความตรงและความเที่ยงเมื่อนำมาศึกษาในผู้ป่วยคนไทย ซึ่งคะแนนของ OHIP-TMDs ระหว่างกลุ่มผู้ป่วยทีเอ็มดีและกลุ่มควบคุมแตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ แสดงถึงความตรงเชิงโครงสร้าง รวมถึงมีค่าดัชนีความเที่ยงตรงของเนื้อหาที่ระดับ 0.92 ค่าสัมประสิทธิ์ครอนบาคแอลฟาที่ระดับ 0.942 และค่าสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์ภายในชั้นที่ระดับ 0.808 ดังนั้นแบบประเมิน OHIP-TMDs จึงมีแนวโน้มที่จะนำไปใช้ทางคลินิกสำหรับการประเมินและการจัดการภาวะทีเอ็มดีในกลุ่มผู้ป่วยคนไทยได้
