Adolescents from minority groups are particularly susceptible to poor oral hygiene behaviors, including lack of daily flossing. This cross-sectional study aimed to conduct an exploratory behavioral research to identify evidence-based (theory-based) approaches to promote flossing behavior among African American/Black and Latinx/Hispanic (minority) adolescents. A 39-item psychometrically valid web-based questionnaire was used to collect responses from a nationwide sample of minority adolescents aged 10–17 years residing in the United States. The data were analyzed using bivariate and multivariate statistical methods. The present study aimed to evaluate the biomechanical behavior of PEEK abutments with different heights on single titanium implants. To investigate the implant surface, different tests (scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray, and X-ray diffraction) were adopted. Herein, 20 implants received the 4.5 × 4.0 mm PEEK short abutment (SA) and 20 received the 4.5 × 5.5 mm PEEK long abutment (LA). The abutments were installed using dual-cure resin cement. IMPORTANCE: Whether selective decontamination of the digestive tract (SDD) reduces mortality in critically ill patients remains uncertain.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether SDD reduces in-hospital mortality in critically ill adults.

DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A cluster, crossover, randomized clinical trial that recruited 5982 mechanically ventilated adults from 19 intensive care units (ICUs) in Australia between April 2018 and May 2021 (final follow-up, August 2021). A contemporaneous ecological assessment recruited 8599 patients from participating ICUs between May 2017 and August 2021.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to develop artificial intelligence (AI) guided framework to recognize tooth numbers in panoramic and intraoral radiographs (periapical and bitewing) without prior domain knowledge and arrange the intraoral radiographs into a full mouth series (FMS) arrangement template. This model can be integrated with different diseases diagnosis models, such as periodontitis or caries, to facilitate clinical examinations and diagnoses.

Common dental diseases include caries, periodontitis, missing teeth and restorations. Dentists still use manual methods to judge and label lesions which is very time-consuming and highly repetitive. This research proposal uses artificial intelligence combined with image judgment technology for an improved efficiency on the process. In terms of cropping technology in images, the proposed study uses histogram equalization combined with flat-field correction for pixel value assignment. Trigeminal neuralgia is a chronic pain condition associated with sharp, shock-like pain in one or more divisions of the trigeminal nerve. For patients who do not respond well to pharmacotherapy, there is growing evidence that Botulinum toxin type A injections into the trigeminal ganglion provide pain relief for several weeks up to several months at a time. One option is to administer injections into the trigeminal ganglion in Meckel's cave by inserting a needle through the Pterygopalatine Fossa using fluoroscopy to guide and confirm the proper needle placement. BACKGROUND: The investigators aim to determine the frequency of systemic medications in patients with oral lichen planus or oral lichenoid lesions. METHODS: A retrospective study of lichenoid diagnoses in the New York University College of Dentistry Oral Medicine Clinic. Data obtained included patient demographics, prescription medications and pathologic diagnosis. Comparative analysis was performed. RESULTS: A total of 162 oral lichenoid lesion/oral lichen planus patients were identified: The most frequently found medications were anti-hypertensives, anti-hyperlipidemics followed by metformin, proton pump inhibitors and levothyroxine. CONCLUSION: The findings emphasize the importance of clinicians’ awareness of potential oral adverse reactions from certain medications.

Objective: This study aimed to identify combinations of chronic conditions associated with the presence and severity of periodontal disease (PD) after accounting for a series of demographic and behavioral characteristics in a nationally representative sample of US adults. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study of the 2013–2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (n = 4555). Outcome measure: PD using clinical attachment loss (measured as none, mild, moderate, or severe). Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) describes a group of genetic conditions affecting the thickness, microstructure, and degree of mineralization of the enamel. Correct diagnosis may be important for managing other serious medical conditions. AI patients are highly susceptible to caries, pain, tooth wear, and loss of the vertical dimension of occlusion, often requiring significant dental treatment throughout their life. Early diagnosis and timely preventative and restorative treatments are crucial to circumvent AI’s psychological, social, and functional sequalae. This case series highlights AI in a 19-year-old patient, with suggestions for further testing and monitoring of the condition.
