Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess cognitive and affective learning outcomes of allied dental students following a disaster victim identification (DVI) multi-media learning experience. Methods: A convenience sample (n=41) of senior dental hygiene and dental assisting students from two institutions completed an IRB-exempt DVI learning experience which included a multimedia intervention with a pretest/posttest survey to assess cognitive and affective changes. The multimedia intervention was a PowerPoint presentation with educational text, audio/video recordings, and presented in a virtual synchronous format by one of the researchers. Statement of problem

More translucent dental zirconias have been developed by incorporating the cubic phase and reducing the tetragonal phase content that undergoes transformation toughening, leading to reduced mechanical properties. Whether the clinically relevant mechanical property of the edge chipping toughness of the material is also reduced is unclear.

Methods: A multi-center cross-sectional study was conducted involving undergraduates at three dental institutions in Malaysia using an online self-administered questionnaire. This case involved the management of a possible cemental tear, which resulted in poor response to nonsurgical periodontal therapy. This case was managed by exploratory surgery, along with the intention to surgically reduce the periodontal pocket. Exploratory surgery revealed a localized cemental defect. The periodontium healed with pocket closure after exploratory surgery and open-flap debridement. The difficulty in clinically diagnosing a localized periodontal destruction and the lack of consensus on managing these cases were highlighted. The possibility of an undiagnosed cemental defect in a tooth with localized periodontitis should be considered in cases not responding to periodontal therapy.

Immune response alteration is one of the proposed mechanisms for DIGE. Immunoglobulin A (IgA) in saliva which involves in defense mechanism was shown to be affected in patients with DIGE. The case report demonstrates combined orthodontic and orthognathic surgery in a 39-year-old woman with chief complaint of maxillary protrusion. The clinical examination and X-ray revealed skeletal Class II with a retrognathic mandible, high mandibular plane, vertical maxillary excess (VME), bilateral deformed condyles, and narrow posterior airway space. This case report describes a successful orthodontic treatment in an Angle Class II division 1 malocclusion with severe space deficiency by temporary anchorage device (TAD) in a 15-year-old male patient. The skeletal analysis showed mandibular retrognathism and slightly hyperdivergent growth pattern. The treatment plan included four first premolars extractions combined with TAD application which used for anteroposterior and vertical anchorage control. The benefits of using the technology included providing endless scenarios, evaluation measures, and experiential learning experiences for students [1]. The school administration found that the simulations kept pace with the requirements of regulatory authorities, helped reduce costs in dental education, and found that students who trained in VR scored significantly better than traditional methods largely due to their ability to repeat tasks and receive instant feedback [2, 3].
