Background: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) catalyzes the degradation of the extracellular matrix components and have a major role in many physiological processes including wound healing. In the current study, we examined the correlation of baseline MMPs 1, 2, 7, and 9 expressions with periapical wound healing after surgical endodontic treatment.
Methods: 27 patients aged between 15 and 57 years presenting with chronic apical periodontitis or chronic apical abscess of an anterior tooth with previously attempted or failed root canal treatment were included in this study. Enterococcus faecalis is the most common isolated bacteria in these cases. Aim: This study was conducted to compare the efficiency of four irrigation regimens on the elimination of an inoculated strain of E. faecalis. Materials and Methods: Forty single rooted extracted premolars were inoculated with a standard strain of Enterococcus faecalis (ATCC 29212) and incubated at 37˚C for two weeks to allow infection of the dentinal tubules. Congenital epulis is a rare benign tumor of the newborn that could be detected in the prenatal period. Females are more often affected than males and the premaxillary region is usually the predilection site for this oral mass. Excision is the treatment of choice and no recurrences have been reported so far.

BACKGROUND: In 2017, the American Academy of Periodontology and the European Federation of Periodontology updated the classification of periodontal and peri-implant diseases and conditions. The goal of the present crossover study was to develop straightforward, illustrative flowcharts and determine their impact on the accuracy and speed of diagnosing periodontal conditions by predoctoral dental students (DS) and dental hygiene students (DHS).

Background: The disproportionate burden of oral disease in Aboriginal children and the issues in accessing mainstream dental services are well documented. Yet little is known about dental professionals’ perspectives in providing oral care for Aboriginal children. This paper presents findings from a study exploring such perspectives.

Methods: Semi-structured interviews were carried out in Western Australia following purposive sampling of non-Aboriginal dentists, dental clinic assistants (dental nurses) and oral health therapists/dental hygienists. Interviews were recorded, transcribed and analysed guided by grounded theory for key themes related to the topic.

This case report presents a 24-year-old female with Class III skeletal pattern, anterior cross-bite, retroclined upper incisors with missing teeth (23, 26, 46). Upper dental midline was shifted to left for 3.5 mm due to early missing of tooth 23. Maxillary sinus pneumatization was noted at both sides.

This procedure also increases the mandibular plane angle by forcing the lower face to turn backward and downward; it is the key to correct both skeletal and dental Class III malocclusions.

Gingiva recession is defined as an apical shift of the gingival margin caused by different conditions/pathologies. It is associated with clinical attachment loss. Several studies showed prevalence of gingiva recession in orthodontic patients. Some predisposing factors should be taken carefully considering the effect of the treatment modality. No consensus agreement was identified about the timing of the soft tissue augmentation intervention for orthodontic patients with the risk of gingival recession. Purpose: This study aimed to review published evidence on the perception of and attitude on malocclusion and to examine existing assessment tools and influencing factors.

Methods: PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Scopus databases, as well as electronic archives of the European Journal of Orthodontics, American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, and Angle Orthodontist, were searched to collect articles that compared perception differences between dental professionals and laypeople. Articles that investigated perceptions of dental professionals were excluded.

Understanding the etiology of these conditions is essential for developing preventive strategies. This study thus aims to identify regulatory networks of microRNAs (miRNAs), transcriptional factors (TFs) and non-TF genes associated with cleft lip (CL) that are conserved in humans and mice.
