Persistent Palatal Hypertrophy Associated With Rapid Maxillary Expansion Procedure: Report Of A Rare Case, Mehmet Melih Omezli, Damla Torul, Tolunay Avci
BioMedicine
Maxillary transversal deficiency (MTD) is a common skeletal problem. If not treated on time, MTD evolve to a more complex malocclusion. This problem can affect facial growth and development. Rapid maxillary expansion (RME) procedure frequently used for the management. This technique is usually successful in young individuals but as the age advances and the articulations of the maxilla with surrounding facial bones get more rigid, it becomes ineffective. Undesirable side effects or results have been reported after use of RME in skeletally mature patients such as buccal tipping of posterior teeth, extrusion, periodontal tissue recession, fenestration of buccal cortex, necrosis …

Carbohydrates, fats, and proteins are the underlying energy sources for animals and are catabolized through specific biochemical cascades involving numerous enzymes. The catabolites and metabolites in these metabolic pathways are crucial for many cellular functions; therefore, an imbalance and/or dysregulation of these pathways causes cellular dysfunction, resulting in various metabolic diseases. Bone, a highly mineralized organ that serves as a skeleton of the body, undergoes continuous active turnover, which is required for the maintenance of healthy bony components through the deposition and resorption of bone matrix and minerals. This highly coordinated event is regulated throughout life by bone cells such …

Proanthocyanidins (PACs) are near-ubiquitous and chemically complex metabolites, prototypical of higher plants. Their roles in food/feed/nutrition and ethnomedicine are widely recognized but poorly understood. With the analysis of evidence that underlies this challenge, this perspective identifies shortcomings in capturing and delineating PAC structures as key factors. While several groups have forwarded new representations, a consensus method that captures PAC structures concisely and offers high integrity for electronic storage is required to reduce confusion in this expansive field. The PAC block arrays (PACBAR) system fills this gap by providing precise and human- and machine-readable structural descriptors that capture PAC metabolomic structural …

Clinician’S Corner Tooth Transposition: The Clinical Features And Management A Case Report, Emad Hussein
Journal of the Arab American University مجلة الجامعة العربية الامريكية للبحوث
Tooth transposition is a rare developmental dental anomaly of unknown etiology. It exhibits a clinical challenge due to the presence of 2 teeth in a narrow buccolingual thickness of bone that had interchanged in position; care should be taken to avoid root proximity during movement of the transposed teeth during orthodontic treatment. The acceptance of tooth transposition could be considered the safest method of treatment on the root structure and the surrounding periodontium of the transposed teeth. Correction of tooth transposition could be tried in cases of maxillary lateral incisor canine transposition to avoid adverse effects on esthetics.
